Premier League: Is the EPL Weaker Than La Liga and the Bundesliga?

First of all you can view it in 2 ways, eighter like this...  officially:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEFA_coefficient#Current_ranking

or subjectively: you can chose from thinking anything form the uzbikistan league to seria A is the best..

Here is my list: 1. La Liga 2. Bundesliga 3. EPL or Seria A

Well I watch all leagues and follow all the teams in all the league and i gotta say that that the first impression of a middle team encounter in la liga is that of a high quality match...

The class of the middle teams from spain are really good. In the middle teams league Europa league there were 3/4 teams in the semi finals. look from 2000 and forward. spain has been dominating Uefacup/EL..
look this year. both non barca and real teams are through in CL. Valencia with 13 points and also malaga as group winners...

look at top teams.. from CL history ,1992 and forward.... Spaninsh teams along with italian teams has the highest numbers of wins.

I i talk to the people i know: those who follows only PL thinks its the best, those who follows La Liga and PL thinks La Liga is the best. Thats the thing i hate about most EPL fanboys (not generalizing, there are eceptons) mots epl fanboys tent so ignorantly call other team shit teams that arnt real and barca. the fact is. barca and real would be extramly dominant in any league. there still have been 5 occasions in the 2000`s where barca and real hasnt been 1 and 2 or 2 and 1. looks like atletico is gonna make that again this year. and about atletico. love watching ignorant people comment on atletico highlights how falcao is the only thing good in atletico. Its not only him that keep them that high up. mostly coach simione actually... ppl that commant that atletico is only falcao hasnt watched anything else than highlights.

All the La Liga supporters i know still think that La Liga has some good exitment. Epic battle for CL places and the drop zone every single year. (btw pl ppl who talkes about 2 horse race. look at winners in pl from 2005 to 2011, only 2 teams. look this year Man_U is leading comfortably. ok that is happening in all the 4 biggest leagues atm accept Serie A)
looks like reals gonna be in the CL battle in La Liga this year actually...

the the players:  its so fun seeing all the spanish players succed in PL. (look a Swansea) its not even the best players behind barca and real that went to PL and succeded. La Liga players are so underrated. much thanks to sky sports PL propaganda (Pl players get overhyped). its almost comical how pl fans are so happy about michu when (im beeing serious now) there literly are 50 better than him in la ligas "other 18 teams". He was not even best in rayo last year.

but its not all the players. its also the game mentality from the cioaches.. remember that gameplan makes up over 50% what is diffined as how good a teams is. and spain has some really good upcomming coaching. look at leventes coach for example...

I also remember Andy graham said. lets see how messi willsucced in a gray wednesday afternoon in stoke..

well not messi but valencia went to stoke and beat them 0-1...

if you want to see example of a top spanish match download and look at the copa del rey semi final in madrid between valencia and real (3 days ago).. that playing level is to take seriously

look at bottom team match with extrame quality recently.. Rayo 3-1 Getafe.. download that

Personally, I think it's comical how some people attempt to imply that provincial attitudes are somehow a PL 'fan-boy' thing.

I'm curious as to how many Italian newspapers have been discussing the implications of the Kompany sending-off in Man City vs Arsenal. I wonder how many Spanish TV stations showcase Reading vs Sounthampton. Hell, I'd be amazed even if fans in Germany are searching avidly for highlights of Chelsea vs Wigan, or Man Utd vs Aston Villa. Want to tell me how many pages in Marca have devoted to discussing the fortunes of Liverpool?

Please.

Everyone likes their own, and everyone defends their favorite. How we tell the difference are through facts.

The facts are: the PL has been dominant for the last decade, aside from the exceptional case of Barcelona.

The truth of the matter is: the PL simply doesn't take the Europa League seriously, and other leagues do. It's the same things as the Club World Cup -- it may be the biggest thing ever in South America, but in general Europe simply couldn't care less.

As for the supposed 50+ Michus, let's roll back a few years and examine the case of C. Ronaldo. Moves from the PL to La Liga -- goes on a goal-scoring extravaganza. Is this because he's joined a much better team? Hardly, considering Man Utd have simply wasted Real in terms of recent European success. What could it be, then..?

Here's a humble suggestion: the opposition isn't as good.

Michu is succeeding because he's being catered to, and played around. At Rayo they put him in attacking mid, and in his first seasonw ith them he scored more goals in La Liga than any other midfielder, though was only 9th in the number of goals scored overall. Couldn't break into the first team? That's a joke. 39 apps and 17 goals calls that claim a joke.

He was bought for the goals he scored, and he's kept on doing it. Simple as that.

If there are '50+ Michus' out there, why haven't Rayo bought another one?

Oh, yeah, because this claim is laughable. ;)

Why wouldn't you? It's more fun if you try to hear it out in a Morgan Freeman voice. Plus, it has the occasional ownage through text.

I was reading on CNN and it proposed this idea of a World Club League Cup which would pit the 8 top leagues best XI against eachother every 4 years. it seems like a very good idea. id love to see a cup much like the World Cup but instead of nations its leagues. that would very much so solve the problem of which league is best. here is the article if you want to read it.

@raimondo90: My only issue would be: how do we know that the players themselves would care about it?

I'm not sure Luis Suarez has any particular loyalty to the Premier League, for instance. If this tournament came around, he'd be included because of his form, but, why should he care enough to actually play well?

yea i see your point, but hes not required to partake even though most would love to especially if this was a very prestigious cup. also if suarez plays he normally plays to win. its just out of pride and wanting to prove you are the best.

Piti the 31-year old who scored 9 goals last year, and Baptistao the 20-year old who has scored 4?

Mind you, Baptistao has scored 6 this season, just over a 3rd of the number Michu has scored, at little old Swansea...

I'm sure he'll be a good player. I guess the question is: if so, then how long can Rayo hang onto him? As long as Michu?

Do you see what I'm saying, dude?

Well if you guys want interesting statistics, here's some for you
The last La Liga - EPL games

Real Madrid 4-0 Tottenham
Real Madrid 1-0 Tottenham
Arsenal 2-1 Barcelona
Arsenal 1-3 Barcelona
Barcelona 3-1 Manchester United
Athletic Bilbao 3-2 Manchester United
Athletic Bilbao 2-1 Manchester United
Atletico Madrid 4-1 Chelsea
Real Madrid 3-2 Manchester City
Real Madrid 1-1 Manchester City

Thats ten games, and 8 wins to La Liga, and 1 win to the EPL with a draw sandwiched in between. I think that when you say that "insert name here" league is better, you have to know inside-out about all the teams in both leagues and you have to watch plenty of games for a long period of time (such as our friend Lodatz). But all in all, when EPL and La Liga have crossed paths, it seems as if EPL football hasn't been able to physically dominate La Liga's emphasizing build-up football. And this info is proof.

Dynastian you forgot Chelsea-Barca games

And Chelsea beating Valencia 3-0 at Stamford Bridge (1-1 at Valencia)
And Man U beating Valencia 1-0 at Old Trafford (1-1 at Valencia)

Also, again, why count Europa League or the Super Cup, when we don't bother with them? So, if we factor them in, the last 10 games (Champions League) have given us:

4 PL wins
3 La Liga wins
3 draws

Slightly different picture, man.

@Lodatz and Raimondo

Ah shit, whoops. Forget I posted that. Thanks for correcting me :).

Still gives you 8 La Liga wins, 4 draws, and 4 EPL wins. I suppose that we still have the advantage. And I have to say, the EPL wins were all by one goal (except Chelsea 3-0 Valencia).

  1. La Liga
  2. EPL
  3. BundesligaI enjoy the technical style of football and I think it dominates Europe much more then the physical style of EPL because European competitions are much more balanced when it comes to playing style. I think Bundesliga is not in top 2 because the majority of German teams still have a lot to prove, it's just this year that they are starting to become more recognized. Also, almost ALL of EPL talent comes from other leagues, while La Liga's players and teams is mostly based from Spain. The brutal truth is  that EPL is looked as the greatest league in the world because of the team's reputations and the league is a lot more commercialized. It is time for you EPL fans to accept the truth, football changes all the time and now the top league has changed.
