Arsenal have agreed a £42.4m (50m euros) deal with Real Madrid to sign Germany midfielder Mesut Ozil.

The 24-year-old has agreed personal terms but must undergo a medical before Arsenal can complete what would be a club record signing.

Ozil is on international duty and the medical will take place in Germany. The Gunners have failed in high-profile attempts to sign Liverpool striker Luis Suarez and Gonzalo Higuain, another Real Madrid player, this summer.

But they are close to capturing Ozil after Gareth Bale's world-record £85.3m switch from Tottenham to Real triggered further deals on the final day of the transfer window.

Ozil joined Real from Werder Bremen three years ago for a fee believed to be about £12.4m and has played 155 times for the club.

@Dynastian: I don't see why he should get banned for thumbing himself. Sure it's a douche move, but that shouldn't mean he should get banned.

If it wasn't for the "Joking" part, that comment would have been removed. Thumbing up is not a big issue as long as the comment does not offend anyone or break FR's rules.

@AlexBatak, I don't see why FootzFan's comment should've been removed if he didn't say he was joking. It's just a cheeky dig at a club. I mean I found it pretty funny and it's half true, but I didn't comment on it. Of course if excessive trolling is the issue then ban the person, but I haven't been affected by him to be honest. Thumbing up? Let them glorify themselves lol. It only showcases what they really want; attention. They must really need it to make themselves feel better.
