Arsenal have agreed a £42.4m (50m euros) deal with Real Madrid to sign Germany midfielder Mesut Ozil.

The 24-year-old has agreed personal terms but must undergo a medical before Arsenal can complete what would be a club record signing.

Ozil is on international duty and the medical will take place in Germany. The Gunners have failed in high-profile attempts to sign Liverpool striker Luis Suarez and Gonzalo Higuain, another Real Madrid player, this summer.

But they are close to capturing Ozil after Gareth Bale's world-record £85.3m switch from Tottenham to Real triggered further deals on the final day of the transfer window.

Ozil joined Real from Werder Bremen three years ago for a fee believed to be about £12.4m and has played 155 times for the club.

Good signing but is he really cost 50M ??the price is really high...

arsenal bought Ozil for 42.4M pound right so to me a bit excessive.. max should be 40M pound.. Arsenal made history by smashing our transfer record today.. OH HAPPY DAY!

Did I actually read comments from Arsenal fans complaining ? About the price and about defenders ?
We just signed OZIL ! yes OZIL, one of the very very best CAM in the world what are you complaining about ?

And the midfield will probably look like this : Ramsey/Wilshere/Ozil with Cazorla on the left wing. It's very sad to bench rosicky, but like I said, I can't name a CAM who is significantly better than Ozil.
Flamini was always brought in to be a squad player btw, and to offer cover for defense. Which will look really strong when Vermaelen comes back. Remember how solid we were last season ? Second best defense in the league. And that was without Flamini (can play RB and CB as well as DM/CM)

And people might have not paid attention with all the ozil stuff going on but we also signed Viviano (goalkeeper) on loan to compete with Szczesny so good news as well.

@BluntCanon : coz ozil is one of the players i really do like and i didn't imagine him leaving madrid ! i wanted him to stay at madrid till the end of his career and become a RM legend

Don't make me rage!!! Arsenal pay around 50 mil for one of the best playmakers in the planet, and we paid MORE for a 21 year old brazilian? Come on!! Definately not too much.

@kinghenry i agree why are Arsenal fans crying about the price, they were willing to pay 55 mil for suarez but not 42 M for Ozil, you guys are really lucky to get a player like Ozil

yep, and this signing shows everyone that Arsenal can attract big names, and that we are still a big club. That makes other world class players come to us. Let's say another striker in January.

^ yea he rejected PSG, and knowing PSG, they were probably willing to pay over 50 M for him.
