Honestly, Messi looked sick and under stress - CR7 looked like wanted a long vacation

Messi probably had his last chance to win WC and he knew it. When you have your last chance to get such an important trophy and you realise it's impossible because you got no team, no coach, everyone believe you don't need anyone to win because you're the best player in the world. For me that's the reason why Messi was stressed,
Congrats to Uruguay

Uruguay should not be underestimated. As much as Suarez-Cavani connection has been clicking, you have to admire the work-rate of Lucas Torreira...he was amazing in this match. And of course the defense solid as usual, surprised they let a stupid goal score on them

serans 8 years ago

Manchester United, Poland 3 203

Uruguay will get demolished by France. Thay had 5 shots, 3 on target and 2 of them were goals. They were clinical/lucky. They didnt show too much upfront, they just have Cavani who safe their asses. If not that second goal, Portugal would win.

France will be too much to handle even for Godin etc

I am not a fan of Ronaldo or Messi, but when i must compare their performance in this World Cup, at least Ronaldo still show his spirit to lead his team to the best performace better than Messi..

Without Messi Argentina wouldn't be in the 1/8 at all, let alone scoring 3 goals against France...

T1lt3d 8 years ago

Messi 2 assists vs France, and won the corner that led to the other goal, so he was involved in all 3 goals. The problem was that his defense and GK was so trash that it doesnt matter how many goals he creates, they will always get outscored. I don't see what you mean.

Oh just stfu about Messi measly performance vs France. Corners happening every game and a assist which was a pesky shot that would have been saved by lloris luckily fat Mercado has to get in the way of it which officially shouldn't be assist since it was a shot . The last assist was a lucky ball in the box nothing special

Messi wasn't bad lol. And he's outperformed Ronaldo on WC stage- he too Argentina to the final and have more goals and assists than Ronaldo in their WC career. So pls don't try to overlook Messi's leadership...

I get the point. Goal and assist is important also. But Ronaldo showed to his team that he wanted to win. So even in the last minutes, he still has his head up and encourage his teamates, you rarely saw that from messi. I won't compare the goal or assist because in my opinion another important job for a captain is to encourage his team more even when they far behind.

@tracker "So even in the last minutes, he still has his head up and encourage his teamates, you rarely saw that from messi." Seriously, Dude? Messi assisted Aguero's last minute goal. doesn't it mean 'he still has his head up and encourage his teamates' also?

Fair result. Uruguay strikers are world class strikers and they're playing just like that. All my respect to Cavani who played it fair the whole match (Can't say the same about Suarez). Hope Cavani is ok to play the next match!

Sad to see my country leaving the World Cup, but wishing Uruguay the best of luck against France!

The World Cup hasn't been kind to Messi and Ronaldo. Perhaps Maradona and Pele aren't meant to be surpassed.

Easy man.. go to sleep. You might get heart attack if you think this much. In one week you would see Ronaldo and Messi with their families in Ibiza on a yacht and we idiots fight each other convicing who is greatest and get nothing.

tratbag 8 years ago

They both have already surpassed them, it's not even close by now. Pele and Maradona could never do what Messi and Ronaldo have done at club level for all these years in the most competitive football competitions in the world.

F00tballFan 8 years ago

Manchester United 0 139

How tf u compare them to know if Messi and Ronaldo have surpassed Maradona and Pele ? We can only say all of them are the best players of their generations. Unless we compare their individual statistics and trophy cabinet... in which case also wont ahow the whole story.

Or the fact they were unlucky to be born on patches of land that have players nowhere near their level. This entire "wOrLd CuP iS tHe MOsT Important cOmPeTiTiOn aNd yOu cAnT bE a LeGenD if yOu dOnT win iT" is stupid. Do you know how little players win the World Cup, its the players who were fortunate enough to be born in countries filled with great players. Messi and Ronaldo both were not.

ordenax 8 years ago Edited

Arsenal 0 111

@T1lt3d Very Very true. They both are great because they do things that other players can never do. I really dont think not winning a World Cup should deny that fact.

I am gonna go out here on a limb and say it. This game was way better, tactically and organizationally than the other game today. France are gonna find Uruguay a really hard nut to crack.

Elbert134 8 years ago

Manchester United, Indonesia 0 88

i agree. this match was more entertaining in my opinion...

tuan_jinn 8 years ago

Manchester United, Netherlands 198 6914

I found it the otherway around. How was this tactically better? Portugal just crossed the ball over and over again. Uruguay used counters, Suarez was on the ground the whole time. No through ball no 1 2 whatsoever. so many bad crosses... How was that better?

Elbert134 8 years ago

Manchester United, Indonesia 0 88

well, for me i admire how there are two strong teams battling it out tonight. small details affect the outcome of the match... like how uruguay was punished because they switched off just for a moment and portugal likewise.. just because of pepe's loose header in midfield. cavani proved the difference in the two teams. uruguay does use counter, but they did it brilliantly. they were dangerous every time they got upfield. it was a briliant game
