Japan v Poland - 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ - Match 47
OptaJoe on Twitter - 10 - Poland haven't kept a clean sheet in a World Cup match since beating Portugal 1-0 in 1986, conceding 23 goals in their 10 games since then. Vulnerable. #POL #JPNPOL #WorldCup pic.twitter.com/kSnJkXKTfI
OptaJoe on Twitter - 4 - Only in 2002 (5) have Japan scored more goals in a single World Cup tournament than the four they've scored so far in 2018. Flair. #JPN #JPNPOL #WorldCup pic.twitter.com/upNAGNhzEe
Squawka News on Twitter - #JPN currently sit above #SEN having received fewer yellow cards.Tough way to potentially be knocked out. 😔 pic.twitter.com/RqvC6g5ctr
This argument would be meaningless if Japan proceeded on goal difference or goals scored (say they had 3 more than Senegal). But for them to make it because of FAIR PLAY and Senegal, who set such a great example, should be knocked out, then this should be taken into consideration. I wonder if more people would take this seriously were France or Germany the ones in Senegal's place...
But Poland wasn't trying to score any further either, and given the result of the other game, having 15 minutes left, I guess they did what they have to do, also given that they didn't play most of their starters.
If they keep this up, they deserve to lose next game.
So I hope they show their real potential in the knockouts.

Apologies that my nations team played in the world cup, played like shit and went through the knockout stages.
However, in the world cup, the main focus is to advance. We used up all our switches, and played without our key attackers such as Honda and Kagawa. I believe they played in this way to avoid Polands counters, preventing them to score and preventing the risk to potentially receiving yellow and red cards, which may lose our chances of going up.
Im not saying Japan deserved to go up, Im just saying that they just did what they believe was best for them to go up
we want to see exciting football not just pissing/passing around
I normally support Japan, but this kind of "play for result" is totally disgusting. I guess their fighting spirit is gone when they know the initial result on other stadium.
