@UHB: No! It wasn't even called as a foul...

Of course the Villa manager was furious about that, but the ref gave the excuse that since the player carried on, and got a shot away, it was technically playing advantage...

...so when he missed, Spurs just got a goal kick!

LOL again.

Sigh. Just watched a Real Madrid game where Pepe fouled an Elche defender in the box, and somehow WE got the penalty. This GIF of Vertonghen really makes me wonder how referees earn their badges. Vertonghen should've been carded and Villa perhaps awarded a penalty, and Madrid shouldn't have gotten that last minute penalty in the first place.

@man_utd, I'd be more embarrassed if I was the one who pull down the shorts of another player. That's just weird....

Mourinho is citing the failure to card him as the reason Chelsea drew with the Spurs: he should've been red carded and then he and Torres never would've gotten into it. Vertongen gets away with murder.

Lodatz, that whole game Mike Dean was only calling crap on Torres. He was equally culpable, but the ref gave Vertongen about four warnings before pulling out a yellow.

@onenil: crap such as raking his nails down Vertonghen's face, and digging a thumb into his nose? I agree that the actual sending off was weak, but Torres had been asking for it all game, with Verts doing next to nothing wrong. The only thing he did wrong was go in too hard on the tackle which saw him get a yellow. Nothing equal about their culpability, and certainly not because Jose Mourinho says so. ;)

Can't really blame Verts for giving him a shove after this, now can you? Mourinho is just being Mourinho.

well you're right about the scratching, but Vertongen is a hard fouler, no holds barred. he's also (loathe to admit it) a great back, but he'll play dirty whenever he can. he did straight thru that game, not just on Torres. and the pantsing? jesus! and i'll admit mourinho's reasoning was ahem a little self-serving and attenuated, but there you go: mourinho being mourinho. i was just shocked that both of them didn't see red.

@onenil: when was Vertonghen dirty? He went in hard one tackle, and got a yellow for it? What else did he do? This is why I'm confused as to why you're saying 'equally culpable'... what did Verts even do bad?

And as for the pantsing, oh come on. ;) It's not like it was on purpose.

He blatantly just fell over and did it by accident. Yeah, it should have been a foul, but, the player carried on and got his shot off, so the ref played advantage.

I think you're tarring Verts with an ugly brush for no reason, here. You Timbers fan, you. ;)
