Sturridge set to undergo Liverpool medical

The Chelsea striker is booked in for a physical examination at the Reds' Melwood training ground as he prepares for a €14.7 million move in the January transfer window

The Englishman will undergo a physical examination at the club's Melwood training ground but is believed to have already agreed terms on a deal with the Reds.

Liverpool have also reached an agreement with Sturridge's club, and are expected to pay €14.7 million for the 23-year-old forward.

The Anfield club are eager to secure the attacker’s services as soon as the January transfer window opens, having played the first half of the season with just one senior striker in Luis Suarez.

However, with Fabio Borini expected to return to training next week following his recovery from a foot fracture and Tom Ince likely to join Sturridge in making a move to Merseyside, Brendan Rodgers' attacking options will be given a significant boost ahead of the second part of the campaign.

Former Manchester City striker Sturridge has been restricted to just one start this term, with misfiring forward Fernando Torres preferred by both Roberto Di Matteo and his replacement Rafael Benitez.

The Birmingham-born forward made 28 starts last season, scoring 11 goals despite often being deployed out wide.

@J_H: Not sure if you want to hear this but there's been no news on both Cole & Lamps. I think they're both off. A lot of noise about Cashley going to PSG. As for Lampard, I don't know where he'd end up but I'd put my car on him not being in a Chelsea shirt next year.

Because we are not a team based of loyalty. We are a team that strives for the next top players, and if we have to push a couple of legends aside then so be it. Call it "Roman's Wrath" I guess. Only legends I would keep at this moment are Terry and Cech. I believe Bertrand is ready to take Cole's place. As for Lampard, it just feels like we never thought he would age. But here he is, getting old and worse. I would still give Lampard one more year but it's risky to keep an old player on top wages.

@Jeffery_Hazard Relax mate lmao Yes Sturridge is a good player but he is out for 3 reasons

1- His Attitude.
2- His Selfishness.
3- Since they are not playing him for that 2 reasons it's good to get 15 millions out of him. and no Lampard won't go anywhere but prolly won't get much time to play I think he will stay for one more year with us.

Lampard and J.Terry will never leave Chelsea for any other club they belong here and they will end their career here.

@V: I was wondering that as well. I see 2 possible scenarios: #1 - Lukaku is recalled and they stick it out with Torres till the end of the year. I know it sounds crazy, but hear me out! If RA really wants to land Falcao (he's not coming in January) then he might want to just bide his time until the summer instead of bringing in another good striker that might make him less likely to come. In the meantime, Benitez will have his chance to try and conjour up some Magic that will make Torres decent again. And even though no-one thinks that will happen Lukaku will be there to clean up his mess and that would probably be enough to ensure you guys get a CL spot this year.
#2 - RA is going to buy Cavani (again, Faclao isn't coming in January if at all). I hope he goes with scenario #1 b/c that way Lukaku can get a chance to really bed into the team, they will maintain SOME kind of value for Torres' sale in the summer [which, I'm convinced will happen] if he isn't relegated to the bench, and because I don't want to see Cavani leave Napoli just yet.

At this rate, I see scenario one working out. Torres has scored 7 goals in 6 games and Lukaku has proven himself. The only problem I see is Lukaku said he wants to stay there for two more years. So If the technical staff will accept his request to stay with WBA for two more years before returning and than the only the option is to buy a striker. If we do buy a striker (becoming more likely now) than I wouldn't buy an expensive player or young player. Just sign a cheap but good striker in his prime for 2 years and then he'll leave while Lukaku rejoins us. The best players to sign (in my opinion) for that role would be Batifimbi Gomis, Demba Ba, Michu (I wish :P), or Remy (unlikely). Sadly, at this rate though it seems we will be signing Walcott (who I believe is an upgrade over Sturridge, but not good enough to be a proper striker backup).

Well, I'll make sure to go back to this thread when he actually helps your team out. Don't underestimate Sturridge.

@Trollman
1) I never said he wasn't good, I just said I don't want him
2) I'm sure he will help us out
3) The reason I don't want him isn't because he's not good, it's because there are WAY better strikers we could buy, but instead we're buying him
4) If Sturridge is SOOOOO amazing and SOOOOO good as you make him out to be, you'd be sad that he's leaving. But you'e not, which simply indicates that you don't think he's good.

I've said in another post before, Chelsea strives for the big strikers. The clinical finishers as they're known as(Falcao or Cavani). Sturridge sadly doesn't fit that role. He surely is better than Torres by a lot, but sadly it looks like Chelsea don't want to drop Torres for Sturridge. I hate Roman's way of buying big strikers with big money. I would have kept Sturridge and used him over Torres, but even then compared to the big clubs he isn't good enough. ManUtd have RVP, Arsenal have eh... have... Podolski! Is he a striker? ManCity have Aguero and Liverpool have Suarez. The only way to get a top striker is to get rid of a striker, and Sturridge is that victim. Also, why would I be sad that he left? It is a bummer but it's not like he was a legend of some sort (unlike Drogba. We miss you Drogba!). I guess you can call it an instinct for top clubs to have top strikers. So in no way am I sad about this. I'm actually happy about this. The only time I would be sad is if we buy Walcott as the replacement. He is better than Sturridge but still not good enough to be our top striker.

Hehe, not to pick at you, V, but you also said that Chelsea 'strives for the big strikers'.

How's that going for you, and your 32-year old Russian export? ;)
