What do you see as the most fierce in european football?
Would be interesting to see what people perceive as the most intense rivalry in Europe.
Concider things like atmosphere and pure dislike of eachother not just sporting issues.

"matches like Arsenal - Crystal Palace have better atmospheres than El Clasico its proves it clearly isnt close."
What? Arsenal matches are most of the times really quiet, and there is no wonder, Emirates stadium got the highest prices of tickets.

Yeah i know Arsenal home atmosphere is piss poor, but the Palace fans make it great. While the away trips to Selhurst Park is always provides a tense atmosphere and one of the fixtures i have never missed. Though there hasn't been many of them.

And when matches at the Emirates is more loud than El Clasico, there is a big issue when that match by some is perceived as the "BIGGEST RIVALRY" in the world.

What's the point of hating someone because he's not from your neighbourhood ? It's not beeing proud of where you come from, it's just totally stupid. No, I don't HATE Fullham, nor any other team in EPL, and I'm proud to know what SPORT really mean.

@Dephased

I'm sorry, but I have to throw away my manners here to get through to you. Excuse my language.

Are you an idiot, or what? You made this thread to ask people what they believe is the fiercest rivalry in Europe, and yet when many of us say "El Clasico", you go out of your way to bash us. You just made this thread to bash El Clasico. Get out of your f*cking gutter, and look at the real world. No one gives a damn about Crystal Palace - Arsenal except for Gooners and Palace fans. Everyone in Spain (and 90% of the European footballing world) give a damn about El Clasico. Wake the f*ck up.

And when is Emirates stadium that loud?
Arsenal away matches got much better atmosphere even when there is much less fans.

There is no wonder that the fans which were making the atmosphere, don't spend that amount of money on overpriced tickets. (But this is going again on how scumbag Arsenal owners are..)

@Dynastian Haha what a lad. No i definitely didn't make this thread to bash El Clasico. I simply disagree with it and say why. Just because you and your glory hunter brigade cant handle that doesn't mean that i need to look at the real world or whatever jackshit you said. And why did you involve Arsenal - Crystal Palace in this conversation? I merely used it as an example to explain how terrible El Clasico atmosphere is. Myself included care about El Clasico as it usually is an entertaining fixture. That said doesn't mean it comes close to being a good rivalry.

@netsten If you dont dislike Fulham and call yourself a Chelsea supporter you just proved my point. You dont have passion for your team and not a passion against the teams local rivals. Why? Because you just support them because they are good at playing ball.

@fabryi Atleast you are possible to discuss with. Yes the Arsenal atmosphere is really bad but trust me, when local rivals like Chelsea, West Ham, Palace and Tottenham the atmosphere is much more intense than El Clasico. And by the way i include away fixtures when making that statement

Things that contribute to a rivalry:
-Quality of Football
-Competition
-Personal competition between players (cough Messi cough Ronaldo)
-History
-Atmosphere
-Passion

El Classico has all of the following with the exception of atmosphere. So it IS a very strong rivalry. Moreover, the atmosphere is not poor because of the lack of passion but because the rivalry has become known worldwide. The stadium is not filled with locals who would make an good atmosphere but rather by tourists and people who are new to following the club. I'm pretty sure if the locals of each city were to fill the Bernabau or Camp nou then they would create an atmoshpere similar to the atmosphere in the Old Firm.

Its good that those Hateful people were banned from Football stadiums, they just use Football to do violence in disguise...
Barça and Real Madrid fans Hate the club not the fans, i cant Hate a RM fan because he supports Madrid, but i dont like the club, thats a clean rivlary, we are not animals and there is a word called Tolerance you should add to your dictionnary.
There is a difference between passion and Hooliganism, you can wish failure to the rival but you wont Hate a guy that support a rival team.

@Dephased So the only way to support a team is that you were born there, and HATING the other team playing in the same neighbourhood ?

I'll agree that the Old Firm derby is one of the fiercest derbies to date, seeing as its rivalry is highly concentrated in Scotland and doesn't extend itself too much outside of Scotland's borders, or away from the British Isles. So I see what Dephased is getting at. The rivalry is truly a local one. In that respect, Celtic vs. Rangers is just as intense if not more intense than El Clásico.

I also agree on the fact that in the case of Real Madrid vs. Barcelona, the rivalry has become somewhat diluted because of the many supporters of the two clubs around the world, whereas Celtic and Rangers supporters are all heavily concentrated in Scotland.

So most of the world would recognize Madrid vs Barcelona as more intense than Celtic vs Rangers, but only because Real Madrid and Barcelona are the more popular clubs. When local rivalry comes into play, games tend to be more "passionate", as Dephased tends to say, which is true. In that respect, I would rate the Old Firm derby higher on the "fierce rivalry" spectrum than El Clásico, though I'm not denying there are passionate Real Madrid and Barcelona fans across the globe.

Hate the club? Its the fans that represent the club hence why you should dislike them. But i should keep in mind since the majority of you aren't from the areas these clubs are based you'll never understand what the rivalry means. That isn't a insult just a fact. However i have met plenty foreign fans who understand the rivalry and hence why they are considered true fans. If you don't hold a grudge towards your rivals your not a true fan, like it or not.

@Emrecan I am merely discussing why El Clasico isn't anywhere near what you call a fierce rivalry.

"you'll never understand"
" However i have met plenty foreign fans who understand the rivalry and hence why they are considered true fans"

@Zakzook Notice the "however". Because not all foreign fans i have met all are glory hunters who support the club just because its cool to support a big club who wins a lot of games. However the majority of them and most on here don't understand what these rivalries mean because they don't involve them.
