Luis Suarez gets a nine match ban in international football; four-month ban in all football activities (including entering stadiums)

This means he can't play for Liverpool until the 1st of November. He will also miss the first 3 matches of the Champions League.

Serves him right.

Because chiellini knows that it wasnt a big deal. He made a deal out of during the game because he obviously wanted Suarez to get his red card which he deserved. But that was it. There was nothing else in it. It didn't even draw any sort of blood. Mean while I've seen a goalkeeper kick a player in the face unprovoked and that was a normal thing which he just got a red and 3 games suspension. That kick to the face hospitalized the player and could have potentionally blinded the player in one eye. If you wana see it search "palacio kicked in the face by goalie".

If Chiellini thought it was not a big deal why did not he step up for him during the hearings in FIFA court ? Because he thought it was a big deal.

I certainly agree that bans should be given out equally according to severity and motives behind it . Fair and well balanced investigations should be done and I believe Suarez got exactly what he deserved .

Dude... nobody but the bigwigs in FIFA knew 100% what the punishment will be before the announcement. Chiellini knew nothing on what the planned punishment was so all he could do was wait and see.

You can throw appeal any time in defense of accused one . For example I Did not see twitter post from Chiellini yet , but after the bite he was online right after the match . Perhaps if I was a player and I got unfairly someone in huge trouble I would offer apology and throw some more evidence to defend him . Obviously Chillini agrees so far with punishment .

something close to this . It is called sportmanship .

@Vendetta

i think the punishment was this harsh because the whole fact was aggravated by the precedent episodes. the current penalty is fine imo, but yes, it could have been more soft concerning the human side. cutting him away from his team can be alienating, you don't do that with a player you want to recover, concerning the human aspect of things.

edit: omg i went on Goal.com to see if they reported this correctly, and strangely this time the translation was proper, similar to what i wrote here. they copy stuff from the Gazzetta, but most of the time news and interviews get changed and manipulated to hype things up. as a general tip, do NOT trust what Goal says, ever.

My bad he came out with statement :
“Now inside me there are no feelings of joy, revenge or anger against Suarez for an incident, which happened on the pitch and is done,” Chillieni wrote in his blog for Sportlobster. “There only remains the anger and the disappointment about the match. At the moment, my only thought is for Luis and his family, because they will face a very difficult period.

“I have always unequivocally considered the disciplinary interventions by the competent bodies, but at the same time I believe the proposed formula is excessive. I sincerely hope he will be allowed to stay close to his teammates during the games, because such a ban is really alienating for a player.”

@knibis:

"if you call that unsporty you would also that a tackle from behind to stop a counter attack is also unsporty,"

We do, if it is a bad tackle.

The only thing I find excessive about the punishment on Suarez is the fact he can not attend to stadiums.. What on earth is that supposed to punish? Not letting him play was good enough but not letting him go to the stadium and be withe his teammates is a little too much. It goes from a simple penalty banning him from playing to some kind of humiliation to him, just as if he was a criminal which he is clearly not. Again, I dont get what the purpose of this part of the punishment is or why did FIFA thought it was a good idea to keep him out of stadiums.
