If this is true, then we have lost one of our most important players. I'm happy and sad he's leaving. His attitude towards the club's hierarchy was garbage, and he had poor relations with both Mourinho and Ancelotti, but he did fantastic in 2010/11 and 2013/14. He was a key part of our Decima victory (Man of the Match in the final against Atletico), and I'm glad he got to represent Real Madrid.

60M EUROS = 48M POUNDS.
Think that's a great price for a player of his caliber.

^ That's actually pretty damn expensive. Reus is arguably a better player, and his buy-out clause is only 25 Million.

Might I point out that di Maria is the most inconsistent player to play for Real Madrid in the last 5 years? He has had two terrific seasons in 2010/11 and 2013/14, and two garbage seasons in 2011/12 and 2012/13. Please don't judge him just from highlight reels. He can be pretty garbage, and a liability at times. His talent only shows in sparks.

The real problem isn't the price or where he fits in Van Gaal's tactics. What's on everyone's mind is, can he do it on a cold rainy night in Stoke?

@Dynastian

United overpaying for players has started become meaningless to me when I learnt that even spending hundreds and millions of pounds wouldn't affect us at all which I have said repeatedly before in this forum. Hell, we could through in another 20 million and it still would be fine. Obviously I'm not saying that we should be throwing around money paying 5 times the actual value of a player but it's just become less meaningful to me. It's not really even my money so...

And as for Reus. If I remember correctly, his buy out clause isn't active until next summer.

Is he that inconsistent? I'm not claiming that I watch Real Madrid a lot or at all, because I don't, but I honestly don't think he's had a garbage season for 11/12 and 12/13. He could have had 3 horrible seasons for all I care. He's had a fantastic 13/14 season and a World Cup campaign and I'm more than confident he can excel at United under van Gaal.
Well here's to hoping he's consistent for us this season!

I mean this summarizes why di Maria is much more than a signing for United:

^ you are talking as if money grows on trees. You do know united are in huge debt so spending €60 on a player you don't need will make your matters worse. united need centre backs not another winger.

If not, take a look at the other comments in the thread. People in this forum seem to have a huge misconception that our debt has something to do with our transfer funds and that us spending 60 Million Euros on a player don't need (which is complete BS in this case about di Maria.) will suddenly bring the club down to it's knees. That's just ridiculous.

United needs a center-back, not another winger? I'm aware of that and sadly, I don't control the clubs transfer window movements.
However, we've just bought Rojos and that is a start and our wingers aren't that great.

edit:
In fact, before ANYONE even says anything about United's financial situation, thinking that debt and high transfer funds will affect us SO GREATLY, please take a look at this blog too:

@Man_utd

"He's had a fantastic 13/14 season and a World Cup campaign"

Correction: He's had a fantastic half of 13/14 season, and a mediocre World Cup campaign.

What had di Maria done in 2013? Jack sh*t, that's what. He wasn't even picked to be in the 18-man squad sometimes because of his attitude with Ancelotti, and his garbage performances. He's only picked up his form in early 2014 to excel towards the end of the season, and has had a mediocre World Cup. Remember his record 51 turnovers against Switzerland?

@Ven

It's the truth. People are overrating di Maria. Yes, he can be a fantastic player, but he is more often than not equally disappointing. I'm more than happy to sell him for some 60 Million Euros. We just need to change our tactics or to teach James how to play with the energy that di Maria did. Both James and Angel originally started off as wingers, so Carlo can teach Angel to play as a CM, I'm sure he'll try the same with James.

We need to switch to a 4-2-3-1 to accommodate the loss of di Maria (which is looking evermore evident now), or to find a worthy replacement (hard to find one, we'll have to use Rodriguez).

By the way, what are your thoughts on Khedira?

@Dyanstian

And this is the point where I trust that as Real Madrid fan, you know much more about di Maria than I do. I won't deny that. But quite frankly, you could give me a 100 reasons as to why di Maria is not a good player and why he won't do well for United but that wouldn't even change anything about this transfer! So talk away!

I'm not saying he won't do well for United. For all I know, he might just win a PFA Player of the Year if he goes there. I can't predict the future, but I'm warning you that the future may not be as bright as you might think of it.

@Dynastian98

Considering the shit season and transfer window, di Maria is fantastic. I guess I can only hope he'll do well for us this season but I'm confident, but then again, that's just my opinion. We'll see I guess.

@Dynastian98, without Di Maria, there would be no CL for R. Madrid last season. Over-priced? Yes. Over-rated? No.

Cheers United fans :). Poor Ancelotti, cant even keep stability of his winning team of last year, eternal re-building in the Bernabeu, Benz is no doubt the big looser here, Bale James and Cr7 wont feed him the way Di maria used to do.

Its quite interesting how many Premier League clubs overpay for their signings. Di Maria is a great player no doubt, but is far too inconsistent, and Reus, Cuadrado or Shaarawy could be cheaper.

Why would he even want to go to United anyway.....

^ Only three clubs are interested in him and can afford him. Barcelona had their 60 Million bid immediately rejected by Perez (for obvious reasons), PSG are having difficulty finding a way to get di Maria without breaking FFP rules, and United are willing to match Madrid's asking price and di Maria's borderline-ridiculous wage demands. United are also historically more significant than PSG, so I guess the choice wasn't really that hard for Angel. He gets to wear a shirt previously worn by Best, Robson, Cantona, Beckham, and Ronaldo, and will get to be the centerpiece of a new project.

I may be a little stubborn but I wont call this transfer window "successful" until we sign a quality CB.
Im still happy to see a guy like Di Maria sign for United but he was a little overpriced. (probably his wage is crazy as well). I would like him to have #17 instead of #7 just because I dont feel like he is "the one" that should wear that shirt next. Also, I hope he gets back to his natural Winger position. I think he can contribute a lot more playing as a winger than as a midfielder.

btw...
I find it hard to understand why RM fans and other people all of a sudden are underrating this guy, he was among the top 3 players RM had last season for sure.
