After a stunning match from both of them I would like to hear your opinions on who is a better keeper.

This again....

I think that Courtois has greater abilities than De Gea, but De Gea uses his abilities more often than Courtois during games.

That doesn't mean that De Gea is a greater keeper. I'd pick Courtois over him anyday. He's still got more to give.

I would pick Courtois between the two. Both equally good but I would feel more confident or safer with him.

Both are pretty equal . Are you asking based on this match ?

Overall , I think again both are equally awesome World class goalkeepers , but if I had to choose between two I would go for Courtois . He is bulkier , little taller and more experienced at his young age . At his age he already played some World Class European football . Has faced two one of the greatest strikers in the world for 3 years straight and he has done PRETTY DAMN well ! He was crucial in Atleticos recent success in every title .

Maybe De Gea would have done well too but we look at the reality and facts . Courtois has achieved more and was very crucial . If Courtois did not play that night against Chelsea in 2014 , we would have gone to final . He is incredibly mature for his age . So Courtois for me all day every day .

Dont forget De Gea is pretty weak on corners when he has to impose himself and come out for the ball. Courtois is a lot better there.

Actually De Gea has improved a lot in that area but Courtois is still absolute boss in this department .

De Gea. He is the always there to save Manchester United. He puts his body in almost every shot. Today, both of them got lucky a couple of times, but it seems to me that De Gea was more reactive, and he generally is. He also creates a great atmosphere during the game, he gives his team morale help while Courtois is usually quiet.

Courtois - better positioning and command of box
De Gea - better 1v1 and reactions

Totally depends on what you want in a keeper. For United's leaky defence, De Gea is the far superior option, and I would argue he has refined his weaknesses better than Courtois has.

de gea for sure. courtois has proven that he can be a top keeper, but only when his defense is good and reliable. de gea has shown that even with a horrible defense he is still a good keeper. he has been carrying united for a while now.

They're both terrific keepers, and it's a tight contest, but I'd pick Courtois because of his height and his strength.

Looking at the quality of defence infront of them for the past 3 years, I'd say DeGea is a better bet than Courtois. However, they're both on the same level as Neuer.

De Gea used to be quiet too . He is pretty much one of the senior players now so he comfortably gets bit louder with his teammates . We have old wolf Terry in defense doing what is needed to motivate . No need for young Coutrois raise his voice at senior players .

One "good" argument I saw here is that United has a crappy defense . Well , we don't like to brag a lot but Chelsea's defense has not been better.

The only thing that Courtois has over De Gea is his height and build, which make him more imposing and intimidating to the opponent in set piece situations. De Gea has tremendously improved in that respect the past few years, but Courtois is still more superior. With that being said, De Gea to me is a much more complete keeper because of his superior footwork ability which suits United's style. I'll also say that his reaction and positioning are better as well. He has also proven to be less injury prone than Courtois, who recently damaged his meniscus.

Not being bias here, but De Gea to me is more compatible as a goalkeeper. Maybe it's because our club's defense has so many flaws, and De Gea is able to fill those plot holes. Even when the entire squad was doing so shit, De Gea proven that he can single handedly keep our club on top of the table. Courtois is a terrific GK too, but I don't think he would be able to deliver what De Gea did had he'd been placed in the same situation as De Gea was unfortunately placed in during the Moyes era till now.

In all honesty though, I think both are terrific keepers, and I wouldn't mind seeing either one in a United shirt, but I would definitely favor more towards De Gea if I had to choose.

It's incredible to see many great GREAT goalkeepers in the BPL - Hart, Butland, Cech, Howard, Stekelenberg, Schmeichel, list goes on and on. Hugo Lloris, for one, is also an incredible GK too. The man does not only possess incredible reflexes, but his leadership on the pitch is also a huge armor in Tottenham's defense. Very underrated.

De Gea has made countless one-on-one saves for the last two years or so..
Last season, he made 3 clinical saves against Sterling. If not for De Gea, Liverpool could have saved that match..
I think Cech is better among these two..
But any day, I would pick De Gea over Coutois and cech :)

Both keepers are world class as evident from last game. Both keepers have never been as good as they currently are. Courtois is valued to higher than De Gea according to transfermarkt.

I added the comparison matrix from last and current season. Mainly because I think last season reflect their performances better and because Courtois have been injured bigger part of the current season. As you can see the bigger and taller Courtois have a lot more catches and punches than De Gea, which I'm guessing would count as good positioning. But I agree that Courtois positioning sometimes is a bit off. he makes up for it with his reach however. As to the reaction part.. real football isn't like fifa where you get a certain stat for each attribute. I'm saying that it would be very hard to judge who has the best "reaction" between the two keepers. However, Courtois super save in last game as United shows Courtois reaction abilities. they're pretty damn good, so I don't get how anyone can say that De Geas "reaction ability" is better than Courtois. For being such a tall goalie he moves very quickly.

In the end I would go for Courtois, not because he's much better than De Gea, but because I cannot think of a better goalie for Chelsea than him other than Neuer.

I'd agree with you KTB. Not all keepers have the same style or complement their defence well. I wouldn't swap De Gea for anyone because he is the goalie United needs with the ability to bail out the defence. Courtois doesn't have to bail out his defence often, but he's always positionally sounds and makes their job easier. The situations are both different, and both players have adapted marvellously to their respective circumstances.
