@chelsea8 Well, not last season, from what I remember. Ronaldo was second best goalscorer in la liga behind Suarez with 35 goal and was also top scorer in CL with 11 goal for a total of 46 wich is one more than Suarez. I have no idea about assist and I personally agree Ronaldo has less influence on the game as Messi. Also, Its pretty easy to say that Fifa is corrupt if they give Ronaldo the ballon d'or but Messi hater can say the inverse and it wouldn't seem any weirder.

@emo the ballon d'or is not recieved after a season but after a year, and the only thing the ronaldo fans can use as an excuse is that ronaldo won the euro and the champions league which is won by a team and ballon d'or is an individual prize.

@Pheno Agree, Pepe should be in the top 3 for sure along with Ronaldo and Suarez.

Fifa is corrupt if they give the balon d'or to ronaldo, messi has more goals, more assist, most dribbles, and actually RUNS in a game.

If you think there aren't any arguments for Ronaldo winning the Ballon d'Or this year I would argue that you haven't been paying attention.

Lilywhite@ everybody knows that you show up whenever it's about ronaldo, i'm not a fan of ronaldo nor messi but one thing i know is that the ballon d'or is an individual prize in which messi tops ronaldo in every aspect.

Easily Madrid's best player, although Pepe and a few other Portuguese players probably had a better Euro. Although I'm not sure you want to get into saying "Ronaldo shouldn't win because he doesn't have the individual stats." Usually the best argument against Ronaldo has been the other way around.

Tied for 2nd most goals in Euros
Most goals in CL (he scored almost double compared to 2nd place)
2nd most goals in league

I'm going to be honest, I do prefer Ronaldo to Messi, but I'm also not an idiot. Messi has had far better years than Ronaldo - but this is obviously not one of those years by any metric you decide to use, goals, assists, titles, anything. You could make a far better argument for Suarez winning in 2016 than you could Messi, and the fact that no one has really attempted to do this shows the influence that Messi has in the minds of many fans.

And i didn't even search for the most succesful dribbles, most chances waisted and passing accuracy :) which most likely will be in messi's favor.

Never seemed like it before to be fair. :P Also, I can confirm Lily show up for more than just Ronaldo, if it seem that way, its because Lily doesn't have at lot of time to answer on the site wich is because she does have a life. :P However, I agree she does seem a bit Ronaldo bias wich is fine, everyone have their preference. Sadly, not everybody share our taste buddy, have to accept it. ;) Last year it was Messi, this year will propably be Ronaldo and next year propably won't be him. ;P

@Lily Have to be sincere with you, I agree Ronaldo is more likely to win, but you should realize commentary like the one @chelsea8 said doesn't depressed as many people as you think, its a sad fact, but despite all of his talent and all of his quality, Ronaldo still attract a lot of hate and there is nearly as many people who love him as people that hate. For some reason, lots people seem to think they should support Messi and hate Ronaldo or the inverse and since Messi seem so humble, he is most likely supported by more people than Ronaldo. Thats too bad, people should realize we can support both player and enjoy both their playing style. :(

And the fact you speak of are sadly not taking into account the way you seem to think they are. Ballon d'or, despite being given at the end of a year seem to take into account season stat and title over yearly stat only. Beside, if what you said was true and that they only too into account the stat of this year, then your statement make little sense as this year is not over and there is still quite a few game to play in wich Ronaldo could beat Messi record for goal. In my opinion, its too soon to say something like "Messi should win if you take his 2016 stat into account".

Give me a break, in 2013 when Ronaldo won it, he had the best stats overall than any other player, yet people say he didnt deserve it cause he hasnt won anything for the team and Ribery deserved it for winning the treble. Now Ronaldo has won the Euro and Champions League and is top scorer of Uefa, tied second top scorer in EURO and second top scorer in the league, what more do u ask for?

Chances created, pass accuracy, possession, dribbles shouldn't even be considered unless they both have won the same trophies, equal amount of goals and assist. Yes, its true, we have a world class squad, but so does Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea, Juventus, PSG etc.. Ronaldo now hasnt been scoring like crazy, but all his goals now have been decisive.

Moreover, our squad has been injury prone with Modric, Bale, Ramos and Casemiro being injured constantly. Benzema has been off form since who knows when and Ronaldo has just recovered from a serious injury. Portugal won the euro by team performance, yes, but Ronaldo was Portugal's second best player after Pepe. He saved them vs Hungary and Wales. He was also involved in the goal against Croatia. Just admit it, if Ronaldo was playing in Newcastle and was still top scorer, all of you will praise how great newcastle are as a team. Just praise the man, what harm has he done to you?

Ronaldo isnt like Messi, he has very little possesion in every game and yet creates a fair amount of chances and assists. He isn't the dribbler like he used to, but why downgrade him for such pathetic things, do you see me downgrade Messi for not scoring headers?

Ronaldo can win it fairly unless he scores more than 50 goals this year, and can keep his team on top of the table till the end of the year.
Messi can win it if he starts scoring goals and out scores Ronaldo by a mile.

@Chelsea8 Not wanting to defend Dynast but he is a Real Madrid fan. So, there is a chance he like Ronaldo better than other candidate.
