@Gonzi You realize that since there is more than one CB in this selection, this doesn't explain why Pepe shouldn't be there. :P
@emobot. Chile wasn't better than Argentina during the match, they played equally well. Penalties was the decider and we all know how I feel about penalties:P Also emo, you have to look at what the Argentine players are doing at the club level - they are either top goal scorers/assist providers or aliens (Messi). Same goes for portugal nominees. They played a hell of a game though, both teams.
And yea, I 100% believe Godin surpassed Pepe's level as a CB. No question.
@emobot. this whole discussion is pointless lol, this piece of metal is going to Ronaldo or Messi.

@gonzi true :P Also agree Godin is above Pepe by a small margin and yeah, at club level, Argentine player are most impressive. Wonder if that is why they are having hard time in international competition.
@gonzi true :P
Godin is a great defender, in fact the best defender in the world, but this year goes to Pepe. Pepe surpassed Godin as the best CB in the world atm, he had an excellent EURO and Season with Real, Godin case is debatable this season, but I won't be surprised if many pick him over Godin. I'm sorry but your statement makes Smalling better than Pepe. Like @Dyna said, Pepe and Modric have been our 2 best players, and Pepe for me was the best player this EURO campaign.
@Emo, 4 from Argentina, 4 from France and 3 from Portugal actually. But yeah, I see your point. Then again, Portugal's win was a very collective one, if anyone else should be on the list from Portugal it's Raphael Guerreiro who was one of the best at Euro and has been fantastic for Dortmund. Similar story with Chile. But not many here shined for clubs during the year.
Don't see why some people are forcing themselves to think something that everyone else knows is a reality regarding who will win it. I remember after Portugal won Euro, even the newspapers back in Argentina already congratulated Ronaldo on the Ballon d'Or. Messi and Suarez can score 5 goals in every match until the award ceremony and it won't matter (which is lame IMO that it's decided so early).
@VAMOSbenfica think it makes sense a little. The winner should be someone who has an incredible goal/assist tally in combination with trophies (club or continental). And it sucks that we know who the winner is already, but at least we know it's well deserved.
Exceptions being a goalkeeper winning it, which is an extreme in my opinion and completely ridiculous. There should be a separate and just as prestigious award for goalkeepers. (correct me if im wrong, i don't know if there is one already)

At least we all agree that Godin and Pepe are the world's two best CB's at this moment, lol.
To win the Ballon d'Or in a season where you have not won the Champions League, your domestic league, or an international event takes a Herculean effort. Ronaldo in 2013 literally hauled Madrid single-handedly through every minute of every game. Some of the greatest performances I have ever seen from him were during that year. I still think Ribery deserved the Ballon d'Or that year, but what I mean to say that it takes the performances of 2013 Ronaldo to win the Ballon d'Or without having your team perform well too.
At least we all agree that Godin and Pepe are the world's two best CB's at this moment, lol.
@Vamos Haha, sorry about that, for some reason, I managed to forgot about Pepe when counting them... :(
@Gonzi That is pure genius, there should be a Pair de Gants d'Or, that would be sick. However, De Gea still wouldn't win it in my opinion. :P
@Dynastian98 Didn't Tiki told us that the Ballon d'Or format was back to the one we had previously? I remember something like that but I'm not sure anymore. :s

Lol what did Vidal do that he deserved it more than Alexis ?
@Gonzi
And it sucks that we know who the winner is already, but at least we know it's well deserved.
Do we? You really think so?
@Marcus2011 He play for Bayern? Nah, but seriously, Vidal really helped his team against Benfica in the champion league and have been solid most of the time in Bundesliga. Thats all I can think of and I'm not sure either if he deserve the spot more. At the end of the day, I'm not watching enough of German league to judge if Sanchez had a better season than Vidal.
@Phenohyte Well, who do you think will win it this year?

@Emobot7 Ronaldo will probably win it but he's not been better than Griezmann/Messi/Suárez this year so to state it's well deserved is definitely overexaggerating for me. I'd give it to Griezmann personally.
@Phenohyte Would as well (or maybe to Suarez) but since RM and Portugal won CL and Euro and that Ronaldo played an important role in both of them, I can see why he seem more likely to get it. :(
@Phenohyte DEFINITELY WELL DESERVED :) you win the euro and the CL and are a major reason your team go to the final. Suarez for me personally but no way Griezmann. He might've been an extraordinary player but if he was that extraordinary, he would've helped his team win a final

@Phenohyte How was Messi better than Ronaldo last season? IMO only better play was Suarez as Gonzi stated already.
@quikzyyy Opinion lad, opinion. :P
@Gonzi Stop with the titles stuff, CR and Griezmann both helped their teams to finals (Griezmann even did better imo), but neither player had an actual influence on the final games. Hadn't Juanfran missed his penalty and hadn't Eder scored his goal, would you give the Balon d'Or to Griezmann?
@quikzyyy To be precise, I claimed "he's not been better than Messi". Didn't say Messi was better. I think Griezmann and Suarez were a bit better and Messi was pretty much on par with Ronaldo. Would you give the award to Suárez then?
I don't know, Suarez was a better player for me this season but Ronaldo has won EURO & UCL which will probably matter most. But if Alexis is not even nominated while being best player at Copa America, then yes, Suarez deserves to win it.
No Sanchez ? Winner of Copa America ? Over Buffon or Lloris this season.
what do you think about the list ?
