@Gonzi Yes, we should ignore titles when it comes to individual awards.
@Phenohyte I'm not disagreeing here but I also understand that when your in a team that win a lots of stuff, its usualy because you are yourself a quality player. But yeah, its not because that your are the top player (most of the time) of your team that you did the most and deserve more than anyone else to have a trophy or something like that. So, anyway, it is complicated when you think about it.

Titles shouldn't matter at all. Performance which the player helped his team with should matter.
Ronaldo did help his team to finals. So did Griezmann. The fact Ronaldo won the two finals, didn't depend on him one bit. He had no influence on the key moments which decided those games. So stating Ronaldo deserves it over Griezmann because Portugal and Real actually fell over the line and won the titles, is plain stupidity. I think Griezmann edges it as he's been significantly better since the Euros.
And then there's Suárez who probably played better than both of them, but he isn't considered because Barca played shite in some crucial moments and failed in the UCL.
Of course the Balon d'Or will always depend on titles won. But everybody with some basic knowledge about football can see why that is pure wrong.
I also don't think titles should determine the quality of the player . Example , in 2010 they gave it to Messi despite Snijder winning CL and being world cup finalist . In both , club and national , he was the best player in the team .
We all know in 2006 Canavaro was not the best player . It was Zidane but because of dirty politics of FIFA and his headbutt they gave him second place .
George Weah just needed a league to win Best player .
Absolutely agree with titles shouldn't be the key factor. The likelyhood of playing in lesser team and getting trophies are harder. But it is some how the indication for a player success. The debate would be very hard to choose.
It's so true that Snijder and Ribery should have won those years. Absolutely ridiculous.
Take Ronaldo's European cup champ this year for example, to be honest, I wasn't impressed by most of his game, the whole team played defensively and so boring... his individual contribution till the final isn't as much as the title sounded except the last game in the group stage (can't blame him, just Portugal tactics).
He has been a phenomenal finisher, but unless we are talking about the best striker this year, Suarez or Griezmann have as much chance as Ronaldo have. I hope they take everything into account with the old way instead of just a popularity contest.
The others years I remember the crowd was still screaming for Ballon D'Or voting AT THIS TIME, and if the current performance still counts then I think Grezmann has the highest chance
FIFA constantly switches their reasons for award . There should be merit . It should be unbiased and I think football fans should some how play the role in the voting . I don't maybe count as another point towards other points taken from journalist , footballers and managers .
let's just chill. Ronaldo's winning this aight people
@Gonzi To be fair, even if I don't like the thought of him getting another ballon d'or, if Messi deserved 5, he propably deserve at least 4 and unlike Griezmann, I don't think he will get a lot more chance to get one so in a way, I'm fine with it and it does seem pretty likely.
I have not been following football for a month or so.. And i am pretty much sure Alexis Sanchez would not have been terrific to break into top 30.. I don't know if he is really 45M pounds worth.. I am really glad he rejected Liverpool.
Mesut Ozil not being in the list surprises me.. In fact makes the list incomplete..
I have a habit of looking for David Silvas name whenever the discussion is about world class players. Fine, Silva had major injury problems and was mostly sidelined.. Am a great fan of him. Currently rocking under Pep.
Iniesta.. Don't know man..
DDG and/or Kasper Schmeichel has to be there..
"The fact Ronaldo won the two finals, didn't depend on him one bit. He had no influence on the key moments which decided those games."
If finals performances were all it took to win the Ballon d'Or, then we should've given it to di Maria in 2014. Ronaldo and Griezmann didn't do anything in the finals, but they literally dragged their teams to the finals. It's ridiculous how people focus on one game to analyze how well a player has done over the course of a year. And yes, while Griezmann has been absolutely fabulous, I find it quite insulting to overlook how well Lionel Messi has done this year.
@Dynastioan98 I completely agree with you. People have to look at the player and the competitions there in as a whole and not focus just on one game.
@srk_rox I agree with Silva being a class player who is always overlooked. He is the reason City play so well, without him there would be no easy transition into attack. He closely resembles xavi's style of play. But I disagree with you about Alexiz Sanchez, he's a great player and I think it's a loss for lliverpool that they didn't land him.
@srk
Sanchez has been good, but he wasn't even the best player on this own team over the last season/year. Depending on how much you rate Cech, may not even have been second-best.
@Dynastian: I think you are exaggerating. Ronaldo didnt literally drag his teams to the final, absolutely not.
You can NOT say a player drag a team when that team has 5 players in top 30.
Not to mention Modric, still considered the best and weirdly enough not in here. Ronaldo didnt In both CL and especially European Champ. He contributed significantly, yes. But his performances were a lot of time horrible, beside scoring. Thats true for Messi too. Griezmann was bit better in term of individual performance but even that is far from dragging his team.
@Dynastian To be fair, Ronaldo didn't drag his team to the final in the CL, he dragged it to the semi final but he did it in quite the impressive fashion though, I have to concede. That hat-trick against Wolfburg was so crucial and impressive, one of his best game for me. In the Euro however, he did a lot in the semi and was Portugal best player in offense in my opinion. Then again, its not like he had a lot of competition. But seriously, I think Suarez, Messi and Griezman also had a very good season and let say Barca would have won CL or that France would have won the Euro, we might not be so convinced Ronaldo would won it.
@Tuan_jinn Modric is there, also, RM have 6 player in the top 30 not 5. :P
Ohhh I missed lolllzz I having some drinks now (Friday night, and couldnt believe Modric wasnt there).
Anyway 6 players in the top 30 for Ballon D'or, then the whole team is great, no one dragged a team with that. And we can all agree he had some excellent games, but other than that just a phenomenal scorer. We didnt have much of those jaw dropping moment he used to have.
He still has as much chance as the top guys, but shouldnt more
Just a little question inside the thread. Would you guys name Pepe in the top 3 or not?
Pepe in the top 3? Sure, why not. I think he will have a good chance to be there.
Top 3 dirtiest defenders ? hmm , yeah sure why not
Fifa is corrupt if they give the balon d'or to ronaldo, messi has more goals, more assist, most dribbles, and actually RUNS in a game.
No Sanchez ? Winner of Copa America ? Over Buffon or Lloris this season.
what do you think about the list ?
