The Club can announce that agreement has been reached with Head Coach, Andre Villas-Boas, for the termination of his services.

The decision was by mutual consent and in the interests of all parties.

We wish Andre well for the future. We shall make a further announcement in due course.

I expected this to happen as a Chelsea fan. He is still the same inexperienced manager he was in Chelsea as he was at Spurs. But I'd be lying if I said I didn't expect them to contend for the title for a bit then ease into top four. Should have expected it wouldn't have happened with AVB around though. He still has a long way to go before he can really make it on the big stage as a manager.

It had to happen one day.. Good luck AVB. It would be less headache to manage teams outside the EPL, It was all good until you got the chance to spend 100 m but then that's when things went wrong for you, there is only one expectation which is *Winning* same story when you were at Chelsea. and I feel that Moyes will be next. This is the situation here. If Man Utd board are going to be patient this year with Moyes I would be very surprised.

Having the 2nd highest ever winning percent of all managers in Spurs' history, in addition to ending last season with Spurs' all time highest amount of points in the league, I have to say, I'm a bit surprised he got sacked. Given the last few results however, I could see it coming.

Anyways, welcome home AVB!

Fully deserved, its not the results who are pointed, even the style of playing, players are not behind him anymore, who will be the next coach ?

This really surprised me.. Its just about to be half way through the season in which Tottenham have been average but there was always the posibility to improve and finish at least 5th. If Manchester United can withstand being midtable with Moyes, Spurs should have stood by with AVB. Poor guy, i'd like to see him manage in La Liga.

@Golden, that statistic is completely irrelevant since AVB was only at the club for a year and a quarter, in comparison to many other former managers that has managed the club for longer.

Anyways, I\'m not so overly surprised by this. I could imagine the amount of pressure put on AVB after making quite a lot of big summer signings for this season, and honestly with all those signings, I was expecting goals galore from Spurs. Every match result just looked disappointing, not to mention the sluggish results from some of the big clubs. AVB had it coming - this is karma for no delivering well enough. Best of luck to him tho

@Heisinburg: To some extent, yes, but it gives you an idea of how good his results were at Spurs. You never know if that percent would go up or down in the future. I'm more than confident it wasn't the amount of points AVB's Spurs picked up that made them part company, rather their lack of goals scored and the huge blows against City, Liverpool and West Ham.

As for AVB's replacement, I believe Di Matteo will be the next man in charge at the Lane.

Di Matteo a chelsea great managing spurs ? I can't see that happening. AVB inherited of redknapp's team, who had just finished 4th twice in 3 years, and of gareth bale. This season, he tried to build his team, and he totally failed. The football is ugly, they seem clueless in attack, the defense was anihilated twice in two weeks, they scored 15 goals in 16 games, and they have a -6 GD. AVB is doing something wrong, and I think it's better for the club that he left. Look at how chelsea were with him, it's not a coincidence. The christmas period is going to be tough for spurs fans.

Porto will be perfect for AVB and RDM will never manage Spurs for sure

I think it's a big knee-jerk from Tottenham to sack him. I don't care what anyone says, I think he is a good manager. He will prove that in time.
I think the problem with Spurs is that they blew too much money at once over the summer on many players in the same positions. Now, I'm not sure how much AVb had to do with that but I'm sure he played a part.
I think if they stuck it out with him they'd have really had something going and I'm sure I'm in the minority that feels it was a move lacking in foresight.

That said, I should be happy that he left, being that I think he would've come good for Spurs.

I thought that he could've done more for Spurs, given the time. It's just as people said it though. He spent far too much this transfer window to be considered anything less than title contenders. He should've retained more money from Bale's transfer. Bringing in so many new faces while losing your key player was never going to be an easy transition.

He should have given at least the until the end of the season, Ive always believed in him and his coaching, it takes a great coach to do what he did at Porto. I is true that he spent almost 100million on new players but so many new players cant be easily accommodated in a squad, halve of them don't really play in the starting XI. They are still on the average position they have been for the past seasons and as we can see on the stats picture he wasn't doing bad at all compared to previous managers. Tottenham's board of directors are expecting to much out of a team that is starting to play awesome football but is starting a new process with all these new players. The EPL is a very competitive league and you cant expect to turn Tottenham into a top 4 team in one season. United aren't even in the top 6 this season!

I cant see how people say AVB deserved to be sacked but Moyes needs to continue at United... I believe in continuity of coaches and both of them should have ended the season at least.

I hope he does a great job at his next team and prove Chelsea and Tottenham they were wrong.

I agree with Tuanis and Footaholic, in that we really should not have sacked him mid-season. He should have been given until the summer to turn it around, and then if we were not satisfied, we could switch managers with a full pre-season for whoever takes up the reins to get used to the squad.

I really don't think they should have held off buying as much as they did, though. Our squad needed serious overhauling (think of Parker, Huddlestone, Livermore, Adebayor, Assou-Ekotto, Dempsey etc) and that was never going to come cheap. But yes, buying that much talent in one go meant that we were going to have to spend a fair chunk of time with them getting used to one another, and a new system. Injuries have NOT helped, what with us not having had a LB since the first week of October, and ending up with (as against Liverpool) only one fit CB in the entire squad.

So, all in all, I think AVB should have been given time to sort this mess out. And if he couldn't? Well, send him on his way during the World Cup. Instead, we've dumped him just before Christmas, with no clear replacement in mind (please God not Capello), and left ourselves in chaos. :/

Levy and the board caved to knee-jerk fan reaction, in my opinion. Imagine if Arsenal had listened to the "In Wenger We Rust" crowd?

SMH.

^^ We won't. :/

We'll appoint Tim Sherwood, in the interim. He'll be given leeway for the first couple of games. He may even win a few over the next 5 or 6. But eventually, when we start to hit trouble again, we'll have cries for his head for being too inexperienced, or whatever it is the WHL crowd decide is their reason to hate the manager.

Maybe when summer rolls round we'll hire Glenn Hoddle. Or perhaps we'll try for someone like Laudrup or De Boers (both of whom will be remarkably similar to AVB, and yet are being called for by the very same people who called for AVB's head).

Ultimately, unless we (that is, both the board, and the fans) learn to be fukking patient, for once, it will not matter who we turn to next.

This is a problem at the club level. Blame the chairman, blame the home support, blame whatever. The issue lies at Spurs, and will not have gone away just because we threw AVB out the door.

@Lod - Game of football. Incase you were wondering. Some people will say things about your club that you will not like. You have to be an adult and deal with it. Not always running to the moderators when you're "offended". When a pundit or journalist says something about your club, do you write countless hate mail too? Grow up!
