Atletico Madrid vs Real Madrid predictions. (1st leg)
RealMadrid17 10 years ago
Real Madrid 20 755

The first leg of the UCL quarter final between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid will be played tomorrow at the Vicente Calderon.

Real Madrid have a horrible record of 0-2-4 this season against the Colchonero's, including one embarassing 4-0 loss. Since finally the squad is fully fit, I'm hoping Madrid will beat Atletico, or at least draw in this leg. Real must obtain a good result this game for a chance to liquidate it at the Bernabeu.

Prediction:
Atletico Madrid 1-2 Real Madrid
Atletico Madrid 1-1 Real Madrid

Mario Suarez wont play either... Coentrao VS Juanfran could be devastating, Coentrao should confirm his late good form with Portugal, he will have a good visibility to show his worth to find a team for next year, i think he can handle it...

Coentrao with Madrid is never Coentrao with Portugal. It's so odd because in both teams he has Ronaldo in front of him and Pepe next to him (and a better midfield), but he never does as well with Madrid as he does with Portugal. We need Fabio more than ever now in the next Atletico game.

Coentrao is a decent full back, but he's no where near as good as marcelo, in defense or attack. Marcelo is amazing.

I actually though Madrid would concede one or two cheap goals, they didnt. Thats a very good improvement, defenders did their job perfectly specially Varane, 0 mistake whole game...

@Tiki

Yeah, I'm very happy for Varane. He made a number of mistakes since last season, but he will become less error-prone with time. He just needs more games under his belt, and I hope he will get them as Pepe ages. He forms a solid partnership with Ramos. They both bring the best out of each other. Carvajal and Marcelo on the two wings make our defense one of the most dangerous in the world, offensively, and a capable rock in the back too.

Mandzukic could have easily gotten a red, Marcelo's yellow was very cheap, and not even worthy of a yellow. Arda Turan made countless fouls, insulted the ref, yet he walked out of the pitch completely clean. Also, Carvajal did not bite Mandzukic.

Typical Real Madrid fan. Carvajal clearly bit Mandzukic.

He bit him yet Mandzukic didn't even hold his arm? Minimum contact and players usually end up in the ground. Be logical, and don't make dumb assumptions when they don't make sense.

In Benzema's defense, he was forced to either shoot with his weak foot or pass to his team-mate. I understand @Real, but if you look back at the replay you'll notice what I didn't notice at first.

I wonder if he will get ban like Suarez .

In other news Arda Turan worked like a horse .

Whats your point Real, Carvajal bit him and that's worthy of punishment.

My point is, he didn't bite him. Mandzukic would have told the ref, but he didn't, and there isn't an angle that shows he actually bit him. Innocent until proven guilty...

Carvajal deserved a straight red for the bite and the punch, no doubt about that. Ramos' elbow looked completely accidental to me because he backed up to head the ball and made clean contact with the ball. I don't know if he intentionally stuck his arm out to harm Mandzukic, but you can't call that a foul since Mandzukic was behind Ramos and players typically use their elbows to thrust themselves upwards.

Completely agree with Dyn, but I think Ramos had a slight intention, as you don't often see players thrusting their elbows to that extent. Wasn't red though.

Question : Do you think the ref being Serbian had an effect on how he treated Mandzukic the Croatian?

Well I am actually surprised with the result, especially the first 75 minutes of the game. Our performance was 100X better than the previous away games with atletico.

Real Madrid

Well without a doubt Modric and Varane were our best players. Modric controlled the midfield, made excellent passes, crosses and lobbed passes. He had a great role defensively making interceptions and tackles.

Varane,, I mean Usain Varane played like he was on cocaine, man the guy can RUN!! Not only of his late first half solo run, but he made excellent tackles, interceptions, excellent on the air and made casillas job a whole lot easier.

Carvajal and Ramos were also pretty decent but should contain their anger, Manduzic sure is a cunt but you just cant heat up in a game like this. Manduzic and Ramos I get, but Carvajal, surely that was unexpected, I cant judge whether that was bite or not, but still, we dont want to lose you Carvajal like Marcelo. Thank God we have Modric to calm manduzic, if he wasnt there may God be with those 3 players.

James was really decent, especially that dummy shot! He made good runs and crosses, he also gave much more space for BBC (who sadly couldnt made the best of it) by attracting the defenders towards him and less markers against bale and ronaldo.

Marcelo was amazing, he was our Di maria, his fancy crosses and great chemistry with ronaldo was very useful offensively. He made 5 successful dribbles against a team which has one of the best defence.

BBC were average, but were just not themselves. Bale played the best out of the three, he made runs and tested Oblak many times, even though he missed an important 1 on 1, I'm still glad with his performance. Benzema was a bit stressed, I dont know why didnt he took a shot rather than passing back to Ronaldo and James, whether its self-confidence or team chemistry, I just want im to be his beast form back ASAP. Ronaldo, well ronaldo played more of his role. You see hi performance is similar to that of against Serbia and Barcelona. I think that he is a bit too cautious and knowing the intense pressure of the game, he isnt rely himself. He did play well, made dribbles runs 1-2's with marcelo and pretty much a selfless game which we dont want. Games like this, a "selfish" Ronaldo is probably a better solution, but Ancelloti has the cards, lets see what he's gonna do on the 2nd leg.

Atletico Madrid.

Well I dont have much to say

however Oblak was pretty much hiding around the corner with varane taking cocaine which is why their performing so beast-like. He made so many vital saves which may be the key to their semi-final spot (hope not). Simeone better praise Oblak for his performance, cause he deserves every second of it.

Miranda and Godin, how can anyone not praise them for their performance! I applaud them for their passion, hey not only tackle well, but actually throw their bodies to just stop shots from benzema and Ronaldo.

Griezmen was decent as well, he gave Casillas shock here and there, but overall, he played a good game. Manduzic shouldnt play against Ramos anymore, I dont know what will happen if these 2 face each other again after what happened.

Hope a better 2nd leg performance from both teams! Hala Madrid!

I honestly thought there was going to be goals from both sides in this game. Btw wtf was Carvajal's problem. It's a quarter final show some class plus you play for RM, shame boy.

Mandzukic was very nervous, but Carvajal deserved red. I think that Ramos' elbow was accidental.

@Eden17, Very sensitive topic. We are two civilised races, but at moment there are many pretty offensive comments from persons in Serbia. For example, Seselj (which made war crime) is offensing our president Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic. Also, their minister of work Vulin is calling general Gotovina 'ustasha'. Mostly persons in Croatia which are popular in society don't give such comments. Mario Suarez complained on refereeing, it's normal. However, war was 20 years ago, and now Serbia and Croatia have good international relations. This is controversy, but it happens in football.

I must leave this here; R.I.P. every human which died in Slovenia, Bosnia, Serbia or Croatia. Especially R.I.P. to our soldier Blago Zadro (which defended Vukovar for months), R.I.P. our loved president Tudman. Long live our generals Markac and Gotovina.

Thats a Madrid derby, there is nothing to complain for me, a derby in a CL quarter wont be a friendly game...
No controversy in Spain, maybe Torres/Ramos action on the box, but i think the ref made the right choice, there was a little foul but it wasnt worthy to decide the game or maybe the 2 legs confrontation.
At the same time At Torino, ref whistled an even less deserved foul on Morata that gave incredible lead to Juve for 2nd leg, 1-0 result is devastating for the away team knowing they will probably score 2 or 3 goals and dont concede to qualify.
