Arjen Robben slams Uniteds tactics

Manchester United, England 47 670

Bayern Munich wide man Arjen Robben has compared Manchester United’s tactics in the first leg of their Uefa Champions League quarter-final as being like those of a handball team, according to reports on BBC Sport Online.

The Premier League champions held the European and Bundesliga champions to a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford on Tuesday night, with the return leg in Bavaria next Wednesday, however, the home side enjoyed just 26 per cent of possession in the entire first leg.

And the Netherlands international has now criticised the approach taken by the Red Devils in the tie, saying: ”We wanted to play football but they tried to stop us, just playing on the counter-attack, it was almost like handball.“It was not easy, as Manchester United played very defensively and didn’t leave any gaps.

”Meanwhile, Bayern head coach Pep Guardiola was also unhappy with how his opposite number David Moyes set his team up at the Theatre of Dreams, saying: ”When you see the second half and you see nine players in the box, it is not easy. It’s important that we controlled so well in this situation and we played with patience and found the goal.”

It doesn't sound like neither Robben nor Pep were confident enough to actually SLAM United's tactics.

What expertfootball11 said.

I see Pep is brainwashing Bayern's players. This is exactly what happened to us after we beat Barcelona in 2012 as their players kept insulting us, and guess who was their manager back then?

Everyone hates when a club parks a bus against your team.
BUT WHAT TEAMS HAVE TO DO WHEN YOU PLAY THIS BORING TIKI-TAKA STYLE?

Don't know why they are mad, maybe they are just embarressed.
Lets say you are taking a test, it is a very hard test. You are almost gauranteed to fail.
Option A: You take this test like you have taken all of your other tests.
Option B: You study more, cheat, do whatever it takes to avoid fialure.

Which option do you choose? Supposedly Robben has no logic and chooses Option A, based upon his statement.
That is football for you. No sore losers. The smartest opponent wins. It may not be the most beautiful game, but who gives a fuck when the team with "bad tactics" wins?

Omg the people who called us "undeserved" CL winners because of this tactic are actually now saying that united deserved this win and suddenly this tactic becomes a great tactic?? WOW and then people said there are a lot Chelsea fans in this site..I am not hating on man utd and they deserved this result :) and I just wanna say that EVERYONE is biased when it comes to their teams. I have read a few comments about Chelsea fans being biased.. Oh come on! Everyone is biased

I dislike the "Parking the Bus" method simply because it takes away all the creativity from the game. It's not "fabulous defending" . It's "desperate defending".

I also don't like teams that park the bus, but I can fully understand what United did. If they tried to play them on the front foot like they did against us, Chelsea and Liverpool, they'd get totally smashed, so this was the only option they had. Guardiola should have anticipated this beforehand and played Mandzukic from the start and gone direct.

Also, if you read his full comments, Robben wasnt being disrespectful, just saying it as matter of fact. Unfortunately, stupid websites like caughtoffside cherry-pick some quotes and try to get sensationalist headlines.

yeah, I don't particularly like the "park the bus method" But I honestly think tiki-taka can be just as bad. Sure, there are a few magical moments when using tiki-taka, but 90% of the time its just passing between defenders and the midfielders, which is so boring to watch.

And also, I guess they didn't quite "slam Uniteds tactics" lol, they were just abit bitter.

United deserved the result and even a bit more. I hope they will knock out Bayern Munich in the next leg.

I hate "parking the bus" tactic, but I knew the only way we could do any harm to BM was by parking the biggest bus like Chelsea did. It's ugly as $hit, but it worked out well... BM has all the right to slam us, and sometimes to get the point in an ugly way we deserved to be bashed, no big deal we accepted it because BM is just too strong for MU now.

The difference between United's bus and Chelsea's bus is that United parked the bus for SOME parts of the game and Chelsea parked the bus the WHOLE game. United had their chances such as Welbecks disallowed goal, Welbecks 1 on 1 etc but Chelsea did not create a SINGLE SERIOUS attempt until the Drogba header.

i always find that tiki-taka is weakest at the begining of the match because they have to get settled for the formation. thats when the best time to go all out on them just like United did, but unfortunatly welbeck has to be welbeck at the wrong time..

also i kinda feel sorry for them, they work so hard to perfect the Tiki-taka and teams who use the bus dont take as much effort. to the people who think tiki taka is easy, its not.

@WayneRooney

Agree with your first paragraph. Barca are weakest at the beginning of a match, because it takes time for them to settle into their groove and positioning.

god this thread is like a brain graveyard. How do you see this as whining ? They're just saying that it was a difficult game because manu defended with 10 men. What do they care anyway ? They got the result they wanted, they got the away goal and now it's easy life for Bayern.

you guys are plain retards sometimes. And some other are just straight retards like this arsenalgunners morron.

@KingHenry

Allow me correct your grammar and spelling for you.

"What do they care anyway?" --> Why would they care anyway?
"god this thread...." --> God, this thread...
"...like this arsenalgunners morron" --> ...like this ArsenalGunners moron

Sorry, I'm in a silly mood.
