Griezmann clearly takes a high boot to the thigh, and that alone is a foul and therefore it should be a penalty. BUT it wasn't enough to actually make him lose balance and therefore the referee probably wouldn't blow the whistle. Therefore he feels like he has to dive for the referee to even notice the foul in the first place. In a way it's a bit of a similar incident to what happened with Mane against Leicester earlier
The problem is that fouls aren't given so much for infringements but rather the results of them. It shouldn't matter if an attacker falls over or not if you give him a tackle; a foul is a foul either way, but that's rarely how referees act in football, and that is sadly why diving is still a thing
Having said that... dont ignore that even the defensive players have their dirty tricks. Like slightly pushing a player in the back before he jumps. Or pretending not touching the attacker by putting their hands in the air but still lets their body get in the way to stop him.
I personally hate this but it is what it is and we have to respect that the refs try their best.
