I can explain it for you easily. Goalkeepers nowadays are not kicking the ball far into the field like they used to 10 years ago, and are instead instructed by many managers to play the ball to the defenders whenever they can. This is in my opinion, really good tactic, but sometimes keepers feel the pressure to do this in dangerous situations as well like this one. He felt confident he can chip the ball over Rebic, but of course it was a terrible mistake. Also, Rebic had a really tough job to put the ball in the net. To make a perfect volley like that, it takes skill.

Also, that's what happened to Karius as well in CL. He tried to play the ball fast to Lovren who was open, but didn't expect Benzema to react that fast. This kind of mistakes shouldn't happen, especially in the games like these, but you should realize that it is different when you watch a game from the comfort of your seat, and when you are actually on the pitch. Horrible mistakes were always part of the game.

argentina deserve this. they have clueless coach. Higuain, Dybala and di Maria on the bench, while Icardi and Rulli left at home. since when Willy Caballero is a sweeper keeper? at Malaga he's just traditional keeper, and at City he always make a mistake when he try to learn playing as ball playing keeper at advanced age.

this generation of players have to retire. let the young guns have a go. rebuild from scratch starting september, hire a real coach with a long term game plan. build and build till you have a decent copa america 2019 squad. test the squad at that tournament and keep building through qualifiers. bring in lo celso, dybala, lautaro martinez, icardi, kranevitter, paredes, rigoni, pavon, tagliafico, mammana, both the correas. in with the new, out with the old. no more of the deadweight, no more biglia, masche, di maria, enzo, banega, rojo. sadly ota has been poor. no words on messi, where'd the magic go. what a depressing captain from the start of the game, hold your head up high, bring positivity to the team. sad.

ps. nothing bad to say about higuain. good presence, creating chances. great.
