Sucks it had to be a penalty but you can't say Porto didn't deserve it.

Those type of handballs should not be called as penalty . What was he supposed to do ? It is absolutely unintentional and no way to avoid it .

Clatenburg was spot on w/ both incidents. Offside was correct and penalty(although very unlucky for Samuel) was correct. Don't know why media called it contraversial. Right decisions all day long!

Because there was a duality of criteria showing cards and Samuel made a blatant penalty over Jackson on the first half, which should have been his first yellow. You can check that out around 50 seconds. He saw a yellow on the first half and then by the time he made his second penalty of the evening (on minute 78), he should have been sent off. Again. Basel players made violenta tackles not even aiming at the ball, and got away with it. It's easy to miss those bits of the game, if only looking at highlights.

We have to give everything we have at Dragon Stadium. Basel it's a tough nut to crack, they can't be underestimated. Go F.C. Porto!!

FUCK basel , porto deserved the win #comeonporto

Penalty is fair because the same player pulled down Jackson down in the first half and ripped off his armband. It was an even up call on the Ref's part, he saw the replays at half time and executed justice. He had the 50% chance to say it was or wasn't penalty and I'm sure he whistled it right away becuz of this very fact.

It's refreshing to for once watch a game where I truly have no preference for either side. Go good football!

Basel have impressed me thus far

I seriously don't get why people rate the teams and comment on the match without actually watching it.Just look at the stats from uefa website 1 shot for Basel 15 for FC Porto 40% ball possession for Basel and 60% for Porto. How can someone say Basel were great or Porto were lucky??Besides, for those who did not watch the match a goal was disalowed in the start of the second half. I actually agree with the ref decision on this one but the goal was disalowed about 2 minutes after it was scored and I think it takes great character to comeback from such a blow. All in all it was a good match and if Basel plays like this in Dragão there is no way they can qualify.

stats mean absolutely nothing. football is won and lost through the amount of times the ball is put in the back of the net.

Luka... Did you watch the same game I did? Just look at the stats. Basel's goal today was not losing and nothing more. A goal straight from heaven in the only shot of the match. As for the penalty... Samuel's body moves as he falls, it is completely intentional as is his fist half pull to Jackson in the box that the ref let pass and it. Not to mention the goal dismissed 5 minutes later for a positional offside. There was only one team that deserved the win and it wasn't Basel.

What would be switzerland without king Basel? Nothing Basel deserved a win tonight but typically Porto had that portuguese luck again

most tackles that are fouls aren't intended to be fouls, but they are still free kicks. how is this different?

binjai 12 years ago

r u stupid well? tackles is player intented to do it, that handball is the other player shoot to his hand...

Stepan 12 years ago

Often i have same opinion on that and i find it stupid, but this one should be a penalty becouse if he didnt played with his hand it would be clear chance

dondhani 12 years ago

Juventus, Italy 0 135

That chance could be a score for Porto, that's why the referee called a penalty

abd7791 12 years ago

Arsenal 0 530

Its called Football for a reason... Always unfortunate conceding a penalty like that. But just as much as defenders learn to time their tackles, they should learn how to make sure they dont leave their arms flying around in the area...
