Will Leicester win EPL 2016?
KTBFFHSWE 9 years ago Edited
Chelsea FC, Sweden 52 2449

Bookmakers and know-it-alls predicted Leicester to be relegated from the premier league this season, even though their amazing finishing of last season made them merely avoid being relegated. With odds of 5000 to 1 for Leicester to win the title (yes a lucky few may win a lot of money if things keep going Leicester's way). Leicester have some amazing talent including the likes of Vary, Mahrez, Drinkwater and all the others that get way too little attention. Starting XI is around £20m - a 10th of the big clubs. Anyways, Leicester are now favorites to win the league after they keep winning narrow wins - even against the "big" clubs.. But my question to you is; Will they win?

7 Games to go.. 5 points ahead of Spurs 11 points clear of Arsenal with one more game played.

  • Leicester's Playing Schedule: Southampton (H), Sunderland (A), West Ham(H), Swansea (H), United (A), Everton (H), Chelsea (A)

  • Spurs fixtures: Bournemouth (H), Liverpool (A), United (H), Stoke (A), West B (H), Chelsea (A), Southampton (H), Newcastle (A)

  • Arsenal fixtures: Watford (H), West Ham (A), Crystal P (H), West B (H), Sunderland (A), Norwich (H), Manchester C (A), Aston Villa (H)

Leicester manager Ranieri: "It's not easy for us. We are Leicester. A team like (Manchester) United or City, Arsenal or Chelsea five or eight points clear, it would be finished. But us? No. We have to fight every match."

LVG on Leicester: "[Leicester's run] makes sport beautiful," Van Gaal said ahead of Sunday's Manchester derby. "The money is not always dominating... It's the quality of a team and Leicester is an example of a team that plays like a team. So you have to give a big compliment to the manager and his staff."

Mahrez on Leicester title chances: “But there’s still seven matches to go, and it’s a long way. We need to keep focused on our team and we will see what we can do"

The title is Leicester's to lose right now. The only problem I can see for Leicester is if they stutter between now and May and then their last 3 fixtures may turn out to be tricky.
But, we need to remember that participating in Europe next year is in itself an achievement. Even if they don't win the title, this will go down as their most successful season in living memory.

They won't lose it. The spirit this team got is something amazing, something which no one else in EPL got right now. I bet I wasn't anyone who though they will collapse Jan/Feb when the beat Liverpool, Stoke and Spurs & City away. And not only that, they even weren't loosing once.
And I would say Kante is kinda underrated, he is beast this season, the newspapers likes to talk about Vardy & Mahrez but Kante is as much important.

They should win it at this point. Even if they drop a few games, I don't see Spurs winning out.

They really will. Obviously anything can happen, but they seem to manage getting results every single game regardless how they play. Spurs really have to dig out some results. Even though they're 3 pts ahead of Arsenal, the 2nd place is Arsenal's/City's to lose.

Liverpool (A), United (H), Stoke (A), Chelsea (A), (Newcastle (A) IF THEY FIGHT RELEGATION). That REALLY isn't easy. But on the other hand who knows if they keep this form, they can win all of those games.

The Liverpool game will be the harder one if you ask me for Leicester. Liverpool is destroying the Saints right now!

How quickly the winds can change in football^.. Saints now in the lead 3-2..

I've got a few comments regarding Leicesters title chances too, but I'll add them after we've got a few others comments!

This has been awesome to watch, even at the expense of my teams not being involved. Leicester should win it at this point. 8 games is a lot but I don't see them dropping enough points with the Spurs going on a crazy run to change positions. The fight now is the Champions and Euro spots. Next season should be very interesting with all the changes.

I'll just add for now, that IF Leicester wins the title, we'll never see anything like that again. It's beyond amazing what they've so far achieved! A story for the grand children.. the times when Leicester against all odds won the EPL title and times we witnessed the rivalry between the legends of Ronaldo and Messi..

Also, the UEFA coefficient next year.. Spurs and Leicester representing EPL.. Possibly even West Ham.. Geez.

Going a bit off topic, but do you guys reckon if Leicester win the league this season, do you guys think Leicester can keep up their form into next season and challenge for the title again if they keep their star players like Mahrez, vardy etc?

@ArsenalGunners If they can keep their team and stay healthy, they have a chance for sure. The hardest part about a repeat is, more so than any other time, teams are gunning for you. You also add in Champions League fatigue that they are not dealing with right now.

They are about to see a whole new level of the game soon. I wish them good luck.

I don't think they'll sell on anyone if they think they have a chance at doing it again. If that is not the case, then I would not be surprised to see them clean house while the price tags are high.

I don't want Leicester in the champions league next season, yes it will be a big achievement for them but i strongly believe if they are put in a group of teams like bayern, barca, psg etc they'll be torn apart by at least 4 goals and they'll shame England for being English champs yet getting shredded,

Oh yeah, it's not like the English teams we've had in Europe recently have been repping well. Much like in the discussion about the proposed Super League, if a team like Gent or Leicester earns a spot in the CL, they get a spot in the CL, what you think about their quality is irrelevant.

@sunflash, the English teams aren't doing that bad in Europe. Between 2005-2012 English teams dominated in Europe and I believe they'll be back very strong in a couple years time with world class managers like klopp, guardiola, Mourinho etc being in the league. As for Leicester, they're not made for ucl the pressure will get to them and they'll humiliate England further.

Kante got called by Deschamps for a try before 2016 Euros, with the visibility things go quickly. Also Payet finally called back and well Kingsley Coman is on his way to euro too, huge season for the youngster.
Like quickzy said I think only Tottenham and its players want to be champions as much as Leicester players, they will get a chance only if the foxes give them the opportunity, foxes have their destiny in their hands and no one would blame them if they do not make it, this season was supposed to be between City and Arsenal and now we have in the final 100 meters 2 clubs who reaching Cl is an achievement ready for the final sprint.
I'm not the only one loosing money because of Liverpool, I though Allen goal was valid and switched Tv then I saw the final result, that was only one of my fun bets at 2 euros but still.

So my points on this is that Spurs is the only real contender for the title. Leicester are 5 points ahead of them in the league, but Spurs are very solid, while Leicester keep winning narrow 1 goal margin wins.

So here's my take on Leicester's Playing Schedule:
Southampton (H): This smells like a draw for me. 1 point.
Sunderland (A), Win. 3 points.
West Ham(H), West Ham are also fairly good at the moment, but Leicester plays at home. Again, that doesn't seem to matter that much for Leicester. A draw or a win? 1 or 3 points?
Swansea (H), Win 3 points
United (A), Loose 0 points
Everton (H), Draw 1 point
Chelsea (A) Loose 0 points

=66p + 9/12p =75/78p.

Will this be enough? Here's my take on Spurs fixtures:
Bournemouth (H), win 3 points
Liverpool (A): Spurs are looking stronger than Pool at the moment but playing away makes me predict a draw here; 1 point
United (H), Draw 1 point
Stoke (A), Draw or Win 1 or 3 points.,. Stoke away.. Always hard..
West B (H), Win 3 points
Chelsea (A), Draw 1 point
Southampton (H), Win 3 points
Newcastle (A) Win 3 points

61p+16/18p=77/79p

Both teams have fairly hard fixtures left, and obviously it's close to impossible to get them all right, but in the end I believe this will be as close as it can possible get between the two teams. I hope that Leicester takes it, but I wouldn't bet my money on it. To me it's 50/50 at this point.

Leicester will win, even dropped points wont deter the team that take the season game by game and each one is a final, losing or even a tie will just aggravate them and scarily make them better. I see 2 or 3 draws but no loses and Leicester lifting the trophy early with a tottenham slip.
