Weaknesses and improvements.

Okay, this thread is basically discussing your teams weaknesses, and what you can do to improve on those.

I think Man Uniteds weakness is mainly the midfield. despite Carrick having a SUPERB season, we can sometimes still lack that little bit of pace and creativity. Our defence used to be the weakness i guess, but we have improved on that as the season has gone on.

To improve - Well, kind of obvious. Get a world class midfielder!! Someone to 'beef' up the midfield preferably. Marchisio Would be a good choice from Juve or Vidal... Or we could just drop Rooney into midfield? Hmmm..

Anyway, what is your teams weakness and what could they do to improve?

How wasteful we are. Get the ball around the other team's box just to do nothing. Also our defense has been inconsistent.

Improve- better defensive unit, not necessarily new players. And actually make our chances mean something.

We need better striking options, and a more fluid midfield.

One of the things that AVB has changed about Tottenham is that we've now become a very possession-based side. Which is all well and good, except we need the personnel to make that count. Under Redknapp, we became a razor-sharp counter attacking threat, using pace and precision, but AVB now has us playing to keep the ball ourselves.

Only problem is, teams are pretty wise to that now, and most of them other than the big boys decide to park the bus in front of us. Can't really blame them, but for us, it just means we get slowed down and stifled a lot, and so we need strikers and someone in midfield who is good at breaking teams down, so we don't have to rely on Bale doing something superhuman.

^^ I think Harry played pretty possession heavy football. Not the tiki taka style but the counter attacks were measured with holding the ball, with Modric working the attacks. <http://www.footballbettingdata.co.uk/season/2011-12/teampage.html?teamID=t6> says last year your possession stats (both home and away) were ~7% higher than the league average. I think if Bale was playing at the level he is this year, last year, it would have made a lot of difference.

Coming to the topic, wing play. Milner is the only natural wide player we have (Well, Sinclair too probably) and if teams commit decent numbers at CB, its difficult to break though. That's the reason Dzeko has been struggling as well, he is used to getting crosses from out wide, not working the ball in the middle like Aguero.

@Fred: I agree with you; I also think that's because we had Modric pulling the strings from deep possession.

Alas, we've not replaced him yet, hence our need for someone like him who can make the increased possession count. :/

Weakness:
1)STRIKERS!
2)The pivot! Essien is coming back, but that is not good enough to be champions.
3)We need some center backs.

How to fix the weakness
1)Lukaku, Ba and Torres (in order). No need for Falcao.
2) Buy buy buy! Or if the next manager (Mourinho plz) wants to take the risky path, he could test out Chalobah or Kdb :o
3)Buy buy buy! Or like I said above, test out some of our loaned out center backs (Kalas and Ake).

Weakness

  • We need a proper RB. Arbeloa won't do the trick. He's too inconsistent and slacks off a lot. Carvajal would be a good replacement, as we have a buy-back clause on him already.
  • Creativity in the middle. Ozil is brilliant, but he doesn't always show up for league matches. We need some creative back-up for him (especially since we struggle to be creative when we have 60%+ possession). Modric just doesn't seem to fit in to our squad. We need to sell him (and Kaka).
  • A consistent striker. Once upon a time, we had an in-form Higuain and Benzema score a combined 58 goals and give 25 assists, all just in ONE season. But that time is over. Both are very inconsistent, and BOTH seem to disappear during big games, where Ronaldo is often left all alone. I think that Morata is a good choice to try out, although knowing Perez he'll just go and buy Cavani or Aguero.

Juventus: Get some good damn strikers. We can't rely on Our midfielders to bang in goals. Matri , Quagliarella , Vucinic and Giovinco are not reliable
