Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney has been named England’s Player of the Year for the second consecutive time, reports The FA.

The 30-year-old has now won the Player of the Year award four times. This time round, he garnered 37 percent of all votes cast. Despite performing poorly for his club, Manchester United, in 2015, the former Everton man managed to score five goals in his eight appearances for his country the same year. This includes his record-breaking penalty against Switzerland, which propelled him past Sir Bobby Charlton’s record to eventually become England’s all-time goal scorer

Meanwhile, Stoke City’s goalkeeper Jack Butland (below) took the Under-21s Player of the Year award after garnering 54 percent of the votes cast.

No offense but if Rooney is England's best player of the year, England should be embarrassed.

We are embarrassed . Why not name Terry who won the double ? FA and their politics . Scum FA is the root of all the problems in England national team and EPL .

Congratulations to Jack Butland I hope his future is bright!

@Marcus2011 Its our curse and blessing as Chelsea fans. Sometimes we love it and sometimes we hate it.

Hated for everything we succeed since money got involved in our club like its a god damn sin. I can say 1 million examples of different behavior we get as a club than almost any other club.

Prime example and actually quite recent is our defense. When Chelsea is solid like the wall of China in their defensive game and Courtois gives world class performances, it is known as Park the Bus tactic just because it worked out great for our team, when Arsenal won Manchester City 2-1 everyone was calling their defense amazing and other pretty words.[It was I agree myself]. On the other hand we are called boring.

I knew Rooney would get the award despite he does not really deserve it, before calling me bitter Rooney was one of my favorite players when he was playing with his heart, I loved his aggressive play and passion for win under Sir Alex but nowadays for me he is not the player he was back then. Terry on the other hand broke a record with Chelsea for not leaving the top of the table which was previously owned by Sir Alex IF I am correct and also won 2 cups. I am not saying Rooney had a disastrous season but it was nowhere near his best. Sadly Terry pays for his mistakes and since it is all about politics he was no where near getting the award the first time.

Last but not least I am not implying that we are the only club that gets treated like this but surely we are among the most hated at this period of time.

He has been a very average player for the past 3 seasons. He got this award only because of breaking a record for the England team, which isn't a good enough reason to earn it. There are many better performing Englishmen at the moment.

I'm assuming this reward is for the national team only? Otherwise it would have been a crime that Harry Kane didn't win.

Is there something I don't know about how you give price in England? I mean, I know the guy is propably still one of the most respected player in England but he didn't do anything groundbreaking compared to some other this season at the very least. Maybe, they're giving it based on the number of aps or of shot on target? That would be stupid but even then, I'm not sure he was the best as either of those two in 2015... Weird. :(

Terry was by far best defender last season in EPL and surely best English defender . To my opinion deserves the best English player too . It is unfair how he has been treated by FA and media . I don't speak as Chelsea fan , but as England national team fan . He should have been captain in 2010 World cup , 2012 Euro , 2014 World cups but filthy FA and media always find a reason to f*ck with him .

thats the thing.. i tend to agree with Terry last season.. but how about this season? Chelsea defense are too leaky.. conceding 29 goals.. Up to a fact maybe rooney gets it due to his contribution(goals) for england.. just that maybe people that are voting felt Rooney deserve to be the best England player.. Goal for his country.. plus;

This includes his record-breaking penalty against Switzerland, which propelled him past Sir Bobby Charlton’s record to eventually become England’s all-time goal scorer

that is my assumption..

@Jimbet I think this man found it out. Still, I think we all agree Rooney could be more derseving of the prize if he did better in the bpl.

Lol, the same John Terry whose team has conceded 29 goals this season? World class defending? Give me a break. Wayne Rooney wins by default for simply two reasons: 1) Breaking the record for being England's top scorer internationally captaining his side in an undefeated Euro group stage and 2) Overtaking Denis Law's goal tally and becoming the second highest goalscorer in United's history. 11 more goals in a red shirt and he'll become United's all-time goalscorer. Granted he's been sh**. But he wins by default.

that's the standard of English football and that is the reason they didn't move enough high to major competitions. he was totally out of form

Typical United fan response ...

His records don't mean nothing for us . It only adds to his career . Did he brought us trophies ? His stupidity in 2006 cost us match against Portugal . His constant inconsistence for England when it mattered the most has been frustrating . Scoring his 50 goals mostly against no bodies in stages that did not matter .

Still kudos for achievement but you said it in such a manner as if Terry is nothing compare to Rooney . It is other way around mate , it is Rooney who is nothing when it comes to England national team perhaps even in EPL . ( did Rooney ever win top goal scorer ? nope ! ) His performance at World Cup year ago was pathetic !! I admire Rooney a lot and think that at United he just never had right tools to win EPL top scorer but not when he plays for England i become his biggest hater . If FA did not treat Terry like sht he would have been still proving himself for us ( England ) .

Captain , leader , legend JT - always stood for England and for Chelsea . So back to topic . Terry is default . Conceding 29 goals is not just his responsibility what matters is that his performances and leadership organized our defenses so well that United fans are still complaining about it .

John Terry is a complicated case. I know he's a great defender (although his start to this season was truly shambolic).

However, I can never get past two things with him, the racist attitudes he's displayed over the years, and his 911 comments right after 911 that pretty much made all of America (including myself) strongly dislike the guy.

He's like Suarez and Costa to me, great players all, but not great people. For that reason I find it hard to trumpet him to win any award.

EDIT: If there was a lack of context there, it's my thinking as to why the FA/England National Team doesn't treat him as well you guys think he deserves.
