Ok so if they're saying it's a swap deal this is not believable at all. Wenger wouldn't be interested in cleverley, he just turned down fabregas people ! We don't need a CM/CAM/whatever cleverley plays. If you do get vermaelen it'll have to be hard cash cause you have no players that we need, except if you want to give us Rooney or RVP back.

About this transfer deal,

Vermaelen would be a great deal imo. He may have been under-performing for a past few seasons, but what keeps me hopeful of him is that he's 28 years old, so he's still got time to step up his game, and with LVG coming in, I am sure Vermaelen will.

Oh, and about the Cleverley swap deal: He may be perceived as a terrible midfielder, but honestly, he's not too shabby, and so a swap deal for two flops may sound tempting, although Vermaelen is more tempting for us while the Cleverly isn't ;D

Not sure if he is who we should pursue, given his injury record. I personally would love for us to get Bruno Martins Indi. He was sensational against Spain.

@TheGame: I have the same concern...how about Caulker? He played lights out last year, and van Gaal has a proven record with youngsters? worth a gamble for 8-10 mil in my opinion...

@ashwin1729, Caulker wouldn't be a bad addition. But I think we already have enough young English defenders at our disposal. Let's not forget that we have Michael Keane in our ranks too. I think right now our main priority is to get an experienced center-back. Hummels, Miranda, Garay and Vermaelen come to mind. After that, we should focus on getting someone younger.

Actually, do you know what I want out the most? That dwarf-faced Deadward who is behind all our transfer blunders thus far. If we get rid of that grump first and hire someone who can handle the money more wisely, then I can guarrantee you all that we can get back into business.

The wages in PL are incredible 125K for Vermaelen is a bit too much imo.

@TheGame, yes we have Keane but I don't know, he hasn't been that great...or I am sure Giggsy would have definitely played him in his last few games. Jones had a rough last year, and he is usually a solid player, but pairing him with Evans has usually been disastrous....Smalling on the other hand had retrogressed the last season...now all of this could be Moyes's effect, but you never know. Jones and Smalling on the other hand have had mixed results. My only concern with Vermalen is he is highly injury prone, but then again, I am not van Gaal, and am sure he has his reasons; as long as this is not Ed Woodward's work!

@ashwin1729, Michael Keane hasn't been great but he is only 21 and the potential is definitely there. I agree with you and Heisinburg with regards to Ed Woodward. It's completely unacceptable that we haven't made a single signing yet.

I am not worried about signings, it is the World Cup year afterall...Daley Blind wouldn't be a bad option. Lets see who others the WC produces...remember Oezil a few years ago?

@Ashwin1729, I really hope so! Daley Blind would be amazing. I would take him or Ricardo Rodriguez over Shaw on any day. I'll make a thread on best left-backs of 2013-14 season soon to illustrate why.

I would take Blind over Shaw any day too...his vision was amazing against Spain...Shaw is a little more physical, but there is potential. Blind can double as a CDM which is his position at Ajax, but I think Strootman might be coming to Utd next season. I haven't seen much of Rodriguez, so I can not comment on him.

You should definitely check out that Switzerland-Ecuador game where he assisted both goals. By almost all accounts, he was the best left-back in the world last season, playing for Wolfsburg. He had 5 goals and 9 assists in 34 games.

@The game: damn he is good. Btw, I read somewhere that Mourinho offered Kroos a staggering amount (1.5 x Bayern's amount). That Chelsea squad is going to be crazy with Fab, Kroos(if its true), Hazard, Costa, and Oscar! And we already know their defence is solid. Can't wait for van Gaal to start his transfer dealings!

@ashwin1729, well you know, it's Chelsea. They are always active in the transfer market. They have way too many midfielders and attacking midfielders IMO. But yea hope we sign some quality players ASAP. I am hoping that LVG can bring Blind, Depay, Sneijder, Clasie, and Martins. DUTCH REVOLUTION.

Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen has dismissed speculation linking him with a move to Manchester United. Vermaelen has just one year left on his contract at the Emirates and despite spending most of last season on the substitutes bench insists he has still not made a decision over his future.
I know there has been a lot of talk and a lot of rumours but the only thing I can say is that it's not true.

@TheGame: Blind, Depay would be more than enough. Sneijder, uhmn... no. He used to be one of the best, still good though. But we need some one else.

I think this thread would benefit from a dose of Evidence.

manchesterutI, you claim the Telegraph published this rumour, so that we know it's not just something you made up? Why not prove it, and provide us with a link?

quikzyy, why not provide us with a link to the source you are citing to dispel this rumour?

May the most verified and evidence-based claim win. ;)
