UCL Last 16 predictions

Real Madrid 483 7140

Chelsea vs. Galatasaray

Knowing that Chelsea are one of the top teams in England, and also throwing in the fact that Real Madrid blew Galatasaray away by scoring 10 goals against them in the group stage, Mourinho's men should have little trouble going into the quarter-finals. One thing to look forward to in this tie is club-legend Didier Drogba's return to the Bridge.

Prediction: Chelsea victory

Barcelona vs. Manchester City

Probably the most exciting feature of our Ro16 in 2014 (Arsenal fans may say otherwise), the two heavyweights in England and Spain will bare their teeth against each other in this tight contested two-legged tie. The Etihad Stadium looks like a fortress, and I fully expect Manchester City to win this one at home. However, playing in the Camp Nou is probably the last thing anyone wants. Another interesting fact: Manuel Pellegrini has never beaten Barcelona with Villareal, Malaga, or Real Madrid.

Prediction: Barcelona victory

Manchester United vs. Olympiakos

A disappointing season for United this year, however, I see them possessing too much quality to bow down to the Greek outfit. If United are to lose, they will lose to a team that possesses more quality than them, and Olympiakos is not one of them.

Prediction: Manchester United victory

Real Madrid vs. Schalke

Madrid have shipped 6 goals in their last 2 visits to Germany, and don't have very fond memories. However, Schalke are not of the same caliber as Bayern or Dortmund, and out of the seven German and Spanish teams in the last 16, Schalke and Leverkusen are the only two who are not considered to be contenders for the title.

Prediction: Real Madrid victory

PSG vs. Bayer Leverkusen

Zlatan Ibrahimovic's ego is too big to accept a defeat to Leverkusen (Lol, I'm joking). Anyways, the former Ligue 1 champions are unlikely to lose to Leverkusen, especially with their performances against Barcelona last season. PSG are a dangerous team, so don't be surprised if they make it to the semi-finals of the Champions League.

Prediction: PSG victory

Dortmund vs. Zenit

Zenit recorded the lowest ever sum of points a team has managed to qualify out of the group stage with. They are not of the same caliber as any of the teams in the last 16 (asides from maybe Olympiakos). Even if Dortmund have not had the best of seasons this year, I still predict that they will defeat Zenit without much difficulty.

Milan vs. Atletico Madrid

AC Milan are not the force they used to be. They are a poor, poor side. In contrast, Atletico are hammering just about any and every team in La Liga, and are tied for 1st place in the league. However, Atletico have lost 3 of their last 4 matches, and conceded 7 goals, whilst only scoring 3. Poor form may be a key factor as the first match will be in San Siro, but I still believe that Atletico have too much quality for Milan to handle.

Prediction: Atletico Madrid victory

Arsenal vs. Bayern Munchen

Oh my. Poor Wenger. Has had to face either Bayern or Barcelona in 4 of the last 5 seasons. I'm afraid he's going to get the full force of the Bavarian giants this time. But unlike popular beliefs, I do certainly think that Arsenal possess more quality than people credit them for, and have a genuine chance of beating Bayern. This tie, for me, is closer than people seem to think. Bayern won't find it easy to win against Wenger's boys, but I think that they will edge it out in the end.

PS. Wenger vs. Guardiola has yielded 2 victories for Pep, 1 draw, and 1 victory for Arsene.

Prediction: Bayern victory

What about you guys? What do you think?

I Think Barça vs. Manchester City is way more exciting, we have two champions of their respective leagues here. I can't pick a winner out of them. Arsenal vs Bayern though… Realistically, I think the boys could pack-up and direct their focus on the FA and the League. Our squad has no depth at the moment! Given that we don't have much depth when they're all fully rested/ no one is injured. Here's to hoping!

Arsenal almost pulled the upset against Bayern last season, but this Bayern is new and improved, and is looking scary dominant. What's their unbeaten streak now? 46 games unbeaten in the league I believe. Yikes.

Chelsea will go through but, Drogba will score and won't let it easy for Chelsea.
Man City in my opinion will win, Nasri with the winner. (that pass to Arshavin at Emirates, damn!)
United through to the next round.
Real in the next round comfortably.
PSG and Ibra without any trouble.
BVB will make it.
Milan to beat Athletico (I just have that feeling)
Arsenal to go through after extra time with Bendtner winner.

Agree 100%. Nice analyst.

I would like to add the "Expected Surprises" games to the list. What I meant by surprise it the different between predicted outcome are significant enough because in this round anything could happen:

Chelsea vs Galatasaray (if Galatasaray scores first has an away goal, Chelsea might suffer).
PSG vs. Bayer Leverkusen (Leverkusen might choked again MU, but PSG is not consistent in CL so...)
Milan vs. Atletico Madrid (Milan is in horrible form this season, but they are Milan)
Arsenal vs. Bayern Munchen (BM has the CL's curse. A CURSE GUYS)

Agree with most . I want to believe that Arsenal can a pull shocker . They are dark horse . Just like Dortmund was constantly written off , but they ended up in final . I don't think Arsenal will make it to the final but I have feeling they can make it to semi final if they go past Bayern. Hopefully .

Also Rossoneris can pull another upset . Spanish teams do struggle in Italy . So, I think first match Ac Milan will win and if their defense won't give up in second match then they will be good to win it .

Also , I have feeling that Athletico wants to concentrate on winning La Liga . I think they have the best chance in many years . If not this year then it will be another long decade until they build strong squad to compete against Barcelona and Real .

Well your predictions are everyone's predictions I believe, unless the manchester city one which is the hardest to predict. Arsenal also stand a chance. I hope there will be upsets because I like underdogs.

@Ikoiko

Well, to be fair, going 46 games unbeaten in the Bundesliga, and going 20 games unbeaten in the EPL are just about the same. Bayern don't really have any competition in the Bundesliga, and the third place team in the Bundesliga (Leverkusen) got blown apart by Manchester United (7th in EPL). I think that this shows the difference in quality between the two leagues. Moreover, Bayern won 1 and lost 1 against City (one of the top teams in England), which shows that Bayern have it much easier in Germany than they do against English opposition.

So don't take their 46 games unbeaten streak in the Bundesliga too much to heart. It's not worth as much as it seems.
