So we have a final between two huge city rivals!
It's been boring on the forum lately so heated arguments are welcome. Special invitations for Lodatz and tiki_taka!

Let the discussion begin!

For the first time in history Atletico would be favorite against basically any big team and in a UCL final..

Atletico to win 2-0. 1st goal 27 minute and the second one either at 73 coming from a super sub or in the final 5 minutes after Madrid was completely gathered forward, in a counter attack.

Over 2.5 goals? Oh no ;) And Atletico are still not favorites favorites odds wise against real.. With that said, I definitively think they can win it. 1-0 either way..

Its great when most of the odds are against winning, it gives a great feeling when u win :)

In this game, it s all about the first 20 minutes, if we control the game, than the UCL is ours.

3-2 Real to win

Yeah whatever... UCL results: 0-0, 1-0 and 1-1 after 90mins. And don't
just "put La Liga results aside" like they don't matter. How many
times have Real beaten Atleti in La Liga for the past 3 seasons (6
occasions)

ZERO. And you're like Atleti are walk in the park. Aight, whatever you
like.

I honestly don't know how dim-witted one has to be to consider league and champions league matches to be on the same level. I really don't want to be rude, but it's just astounding to me that you would even consider a stat so irrelevant to what is being discussed.

Real Madrid has a team of full of super-stars, and it is sometimes very difficult (I would imagine) to motivate them to play at their absolute best week in and out in league games. This does not just happen with Real Madrid. The same happens with Bayern, Barcelona, and all other top clubs. Zidane has great a tremendous job in this aspect, and we are looking more and more like a 'hungry' team since he has taken over. He had only been in charge of the team for about a month and a half when we last played Atletico. For me personally, that wouldn't even be even enough time to remember everybody's name in a new job - let alone even begin to get comfortable doing it.

The first game of the season, along with the Copa Del Rey matches, we had a different manager and looked like a completely different team. Therefore, you cannot judge how we'll do based on those game.

Just like you cannot judge how we'll do in CL at all by how we're playing in the league. They're completely different things. One, you are essentially required to play every season no matter where you are if you want to be a football player. The other is where all the players want to be at. The ultimate show-down, the Champions League final. That is what every single player in the beginning of the season dream of. The ultimate success.

Now, I think it's safe to assume that the difference of 'threshold of talent' between these two teams is very vast. Real Madrid is a team with a lot more talent, a lot more ability. Do they always play to their maximum every game? No.

Atletico on the other hand, managed to get to the final by playing to their absolute maximum every single game. They could not possibly get any better than what we've already seen them do. They play their every game at their absolute highest level. Even with that, they got outplayed by Barcelona, they got outplayed by Bayern. They won by playing defensive football. I'm not faulting them, it's the only way they 'can' play against the big teams because of the vast difference in talent between them and the big 3.

However, when Real Madrid plays to THEIR maximum level, everybody knows - they are absolutely unstoppable. A joy to watch.

The fact is, Real Madrid hasn't really been tested in the Champions League, which leads people to think they are weaker than they actually are. They quietly kept progressing, and only coming up with the goods when absolutely needed (like against Wolfsburg). Nobody talks about our defensive solidarity against City, the same team that scored 3 on PSG over two legs. What happened in the first leg at Germany, in my opinion, was a 10 minute fluke, and not likely to be repeated.

Atletico will face a completely different Real Madrid in San Siro than the one they faced in league and copa del rey matches. Whereas Atletico will be the same, they cannot possibly get better. If, and again this is a big IF, Real Madrid truly turn it on - there is absolutely nothing that Atletico can do to stop them.

It all depends, I suppose, on which Real Madrid shows up and a lot of that will depend on Zidane. And I firmly put all my faith in Zidane delivering.

PS: Again, I'm not saying it's going to be easy, nor that it's going to be a walk in the park, just to clarify.

I would do a 433 holding with Benzema up front, ronaldo and bale at the wings, Isco, Casemerio, and modric in the midfield with Casemerio playing as a CDM, and the backline with Marcelo, Ramos, Pepe, and Carvajal. I'm not sure if to put varane or pepe. I think Real Madrid can win 2-0 or 2-1. I would switch wings with bale and ronaldo during sometime
