The "Unpopular Opinion"
Vendetta 11 years ago

Here is a fun thread I stole from /r/soccer! Ever had an unpopular opinion that you've been dying to share but don't want to get hammered with replies and hate? Here is your chance to post it and see how many people agree with you!

RULES(Modified for FR):

  1. Try not to list many opinions in one post. We want to see which specific opinion gets the most +1s.

  2. You are NOT allowed to reply to an opinion. You don't like it? Ignore it. I know how FR is by now and I certainly know how one opinion can turn into a fight. DON'T REPLY.

  3. You like an unpopular opinion?! Awesome! Show that by giving it a +1! By giving +1s to an unpopular opinion you can see which opinion is liked thise most. And you remain anonymous (unless you write "I agree with _\. +1")

  4. Keep it strictly to football! I'm looking at you Lod and knibis!

  5. Use your common sense. Don't post something offensive like "I hope that player dies or gets injured!". Don't be stupid.

NOTE TO THE MODS: If you have an issue with the thread please message me on my wall instead of closing it, so we can discuss how to fix the problem. Also, you have my permission to remove any commets not following the rules (replies, non-football posts, fights etc.).

Remember to give a +1 if you like an unpopular opinion!

People keep talking sh*t about Valencia,Atletico,Malaga,Sevilla and more la liga teams in general without having watched them play more than 1-2 times, while they praise teams inferior to them just because they play in EPL.

Sergio Busquets and Arturo Vidal are the most underrated players now that are given much less credits than they deserve according their work on the pitch.

Everyone miss the glory days of football(World cup 2002 or 2006 for example) and football till 2007 in general. Now that sponsorships "control" football clubs everything has changed dramatically(Transfer fees for instance)

If Argentina wins the WC2014 in Brazil still they will be a great amount of people that would not admit that messi is a Legend and probably the best of all time.Still there will be shitty doubts like he didn't score against chelsea or he scores just because Iniesta and Xavi!

Sergio Busquets has been 'underrated' for 5 years now. He's just not as good as some people think he is. He plays for a specific team, in a specific style, that suits him perfectly. That's it.

Get over it.

And Vidal is not underrated as well. Most people including Conte believe him to be Juventus's most integral player.

Conte's MVP formation (Marchisio-Vidal-Pirlo/Pogba) is actually rated extremely highly. Bayern were the only one able to nullify them completely, which shows that they are on the caliber of Barcelona, RM, Dortmund, etc.

Almost every EPL fan does not watch ANY La Liga matches besides El Clasico.

How do I know? Because of Juan Mata. Every La Liga fan will know that the Real Madrid youth product was world class from his first games with Valencia. He has not "improved" in England. He is just getting used to playing there. You Chelsea fans do not even know how talented this boy really is. The moment he moves to Chelsea, people start raving over how he is one of the best midfielders in the world. If Mata had remained at Valencia, and even if he still raked in the performances he does in England, he would never be rated as highly (because EPL is supposedly "better" than La Liga).

I think this sums up what moderators feel over the internet. Can everyone please just stick to the rules? :)
*Don't reply to anyone on this thread* a cheeky opinion is also a reply to someone's comment..
Everyone has the right to share their opinion and what they believe, so just don't take it personally It's only one's opinion or a million, there is another million who will disagree.

Aiden McGeady could have been one of the best footballers in the world had he stuck with Celtic

Roberto Martinez isn't as good as everyone say he is. Everyone admires him only for his attitude, and most recently his FA Cup success. He's not going to last long in Everton, mark.my.words.

Opinion: Too many people think that players don't improve when they come to a new team. For example: Juan Mata. He was offloaded as a youth prospect that Real Madrid didn't think was good enough, spent some years at Valencia being overshadowed by other players, and then had two great years following a breakthrough season in 2010.

A breakthrough season which saw him become one of the most sought-after young midfielders on the continent, and then bought by Chelsea FC precisely because of his reputation. Since playing for the Blues he has continued to improve, continued to hone his ability, now surrounded by a higher standard of player, and can justifiably be called, NOW, one of the best midfielders in Europe, which he simply could not be called prior to his move to Chelsea.

He hasn't even reached his prime years.

It's ignorant, stupid and insulting to suggest that English fans only think a player is great when they move to a PL club, especially since when players move to Madrid or Barcelona, suddenly La Liga fans tend to claim they are now 'world class' just because they're playing for those clubs.

LLorente is a brilliant striker, people have forgotten about him because he and the club not wanting him to play for the entire season due to moral reasons
