Mourinho on Mata
’He is very important for me, for Chelsea. The stories coming are nonsense stories, he goes nowhere and is very important for me. He had a very small pre-season after the Confederations Cup, during that small pre-season he was injured. He started training two days before we played the first Premier League match, and had a match last week against Aston Villa, a difficult one, and today I decided to put him on the bench.

‘I played with De Bruyne on the right because I know De Bruyne will give complete control of Evra defensively. When Juan plays on the right he comes more inside. I don’t say the kid is more tactically disciplined but is more adapted to that situation. I wanted Oscar to play behind the striker so I decided not to play Juan.. Minute 70, 75, I was feeling [it was] difficult to win, I don’t want to lose, so I made the changes to control the last few minutes of the game, but no chance Juan goes anywhere.’

You do realize, Alex, that you are posting the rumour about Bale on the day AFTER he is supposed to be unveiled, and yet nothing has actually happened? IN fact, Sky themselves are busy wondering if Man United have made a surprise late bid for him.

C'mon, man. ;) Yer not trolling, are yer?

Also, I am very interested about Cardiff's move for Cuenca. It seems to me they have an excellent scouting network, or whoever is covering the DoT position, because they've made some very good buys, and some very shrewd efforts, this window.

With their result against City, I'm wondering if we don't have a dark horse for the Cup runs this season...

I think they meant next Monday :)) still I'm not sure though, he is still injured right? and no lol I'm not trolling If i were I wouldn't add that Mata's rumor because I know it's a sheer bs. as for Cardiff I'm very impressed by their performance so far.

"I think they meant next Monday"

The final day of the window? I dunno, man. I reckon they just cocked it up, and feel pretty stupid now. ;)

They seem very desperate to sign him at any cost.. :)

If you're talking about the media, then yes, they really do seem that way. ;)

As for Madrid, I dunno. I think they're trying to weaken Levy's hand, which is not going to go well for them. If he takes this to the final day of the window, then Arsenal get no chance to capitalize.

Or he could just not sell. We'll have to see... >:)

^I think Levy would be foolish to not sell. Yes, yes, Bale is a fantastic player. A player Tottenham shouldn't let go of... unless someone is willing to pay 93m pounds. Just take the god damn offer Levy. You'll never get a better chance than this to sell Bale.

Madrid haven't put any of those players up for sale.

@V: but that's just it: we don't want a 'chance to sell Bale'. Maybe you mean we'll never get a better price? Could be, but we don't need the money, even for this spending spree of ours. Levy holds all the cards. He'll get what's best for Tottenham.

  • Levy should sell Bale, he wants to leave, let him go.
  • Mourinho should lend some of our midfielders, we can't keep so much talents to our bench, ok it's cool if we have a problem, but those young players need to play as much as possible to improve (Mata, Hazard, Oscar, De Bruyne, Willian, Moses, Schurrle,...) and Lukaku already lost a year for the bench 2 years ago at Chelsea.

@tdot: Just out of honest curiosity, where would you see Bale fitting in at Madrid? Whose place would he take, and why?

^ I always thought he would play in CAM in the 4-2-3-1 position or RW (IF he is good there) if Real sell Benz/Ozil/Di Maria

@Lodatz: We're talking about 93m pounds here. C. Ronaldo at the age of 24, joined Real Madrid after winning the CL, Ballon d'Or and Premier League. It cost them 80m. Bale, a 24 year old LB turned LW/CF with only one breath taking season so far is going to cost them 93m. If they wanted Mata or Hazard for that much money, I'd take it.

@rama: He's definitely good in RW. I'm just curious as to whether or not dropping/selling the likes of Ozil and Di Maria makes sense, to make room for him.

I guess where I'm going with this is that because I don't think Real need him, and it's not in Madrid's best interest to buy him, I ALSO think it's therefore not in Bale's best interests to go there. I think that the moment he plays RW, he'll be expected to feed Benzema or Ronaldo, which will be pretty much the role he got frustrated with at Spurs in the first place. His move to a CF was what kick-started his amazing goalscoring run, and he'll be reluctant to go back to simply putting in crosses or through balls.

But even if Bale gets what he would want, and plays CAM or SS, there's another problem. If he starts missing chances that Ronaldo feels could have gone to him, I wonder how long he'll last in the starting line-up, etc.

So, I guess, I do think there's a good case to make that Bale would take a huge step backward in his career and development by moving to a team where he will not be the star.

But, I'd like to hear other opinions on it, from folks who know Madrid's squad and style better than I do.

@Ven: I can't say anything to that except: I think football is about more than how much money you get for selling your players. Bale means more to us than 93m. If he stayed, with al our new additions (plus Lamela), we would have a very real shot at breaking that 50-year league title drought.

He could be our Henry. That's worth far more to Tottenham than a huge transfer fee.

Not everything is about money.

@Lodatz: But the same could be said about Ronaldo to Manchester United. They saw him as one of their best players ever, and if he retired there he would be their best player ever. He was worth over 100m to them as well. But that didn't stop him from being sold. Everything is about money. And if your "Henry" wants to leave, then he isn't really your Henry. Tottenham are pretty much forcing him to stay. He just wants to leave the club and start a new journey, the same went for Ronaldo. The only difference is, Tottenham get a ton of money that can make them upgrade any position they want.
