@Ven: Well, not really.

For one thing, it really could be very easily argued that United lost out by selling Ronaldo. If they had kept him (which would have been hard, considering that Ronaldo literally forced them to sell, of course, which Bale has not been doing), it's fairly reasonable to assume that another CL title, maybe two, would have been taken home to Old Trafford.

What did they get for that 80m? Not much, really, except some cash injection into the club;s infrastructure.

As for Henry, well, Arsenal never suffered a situation such as the one Tottenham are facing now, so it's a bit hard to say that he "isn't really your Henry".

Imagine if Real Madrid had come in with a bid for Henry in 2001. Remember, Henry had been the club's top goalscorer that year, but the club had not won anything. It was Henry's 'breakthrough' year. What if Madrid had offered, I dunno 40m for him, or 50m, or something (comparable with today's price of 90m).

And what if Arsenal had said yes? They'd have had today's equivalent of the Bale transfer, and all that spending cash.

But they would not have had Henry.

Is there a single Gooner on this site (or even alive) who would trade in the success, the achievements and the legends that Arsenal created, thanks to Thierry Henry, for 50m of spending oney back in 2001?

I highly doubt it.

All I can is is, again: not everything is about money. I would feel sorry for anyone who disagrees.

You do have a point, and you are right. Except...

(which would have been hard, considering that Ronaldo literally forced them to sell, of course, which Bale has not been doing)

Bale has been also forcing a move.

^^ Has he? As far as I know, he has not said a single thing to a single reporter, given a single interview, or even made a single Tweet.

If Bale were forcing a move, he would be all over social media, and so would his agent, who has also been silent.

This showdown is between Levy and Perez, not Tottenham and Bale.

We all know behind the camera Bale is doing everything he can to get to Madrid. And he is already starting it publicly by not arriving for training. Also, Ronaldo never really forced a move in. He wanted to leave to Madrid after the CL in Moscow but SAF asked if he could just stay for one more season and then he can leave. Ronaldo agreed to it out of respect for SAF. Not really forcing a move.

"We all know behind the camera Bale is doing everything he can to get to Madrid."

Do you? How do you know that? I suspect you'd be hard pressed to find a single source that doesn't lead back to Marca. ;)

"And he is already starting it publicly by not arriving for training."

Oh c'mon man. Don't you think it's a little late for him to start playing that game, if that's what he was doing? With only 6 days to go until the window closes, and Tottenham sitting on 6 points from 6 without him, that'd be a pretty weak card to play. I don't think he or his agent would be that stupid. The last thing they need is a breach of contract battle which would certainly scupper any deal. Levy doesn't get bullied.

Ultimately, Bale's been a model professional. He hasn't asked for a request, or talked about wanting to leave, which would weaken Spurs and drive down the price, not has be talked about wanting to stay, which would make him look like a liar if Levy decides to sell.

Like I said, this showdown is between Levy and Perez (and Marca). All the claims about Bale being 'angry', or 'frustrated', or forcing a move have come from Marca, reprinted by the British press, and actually downplayed by Bale's own camp.

Levy's the one holding all the cards here.

Well, you do know more than me about this whole situation, so I believe you. Plus, I f*cking hate Marca.

@Ven: honestly, it's not even a case of me knowing more about it. I'm no insider. It's just a case of NO-ONE knowing anything about it, and me simply knowing which things being claimed are false, or at the very least knowing where the claims came from.

My point is simply this: nearly everything you read about Bale himself is bullshit, whether it's Marca claiming that he's desperate to leave, or some twerp claiming that he's totally looking forward to staying. It's all a smokescreen, devised to unsettle the player.

The only thing that matters in this whole affair is whether or not Levy and Perez come to agreement, and in that negotiation, Levy's got the clear upper hand.

Hehe, and it doesn't help Perez that (according to very strong hints dropped by Spurs staff) Levy is apparently PISSED at how Madrid (and Marca) have conducted themselves, what with the shirt sales 'mistake', and this stage business... ;)
