So this is what a red card looks like nowadays...

Cristiano got a red card for this. Now, he's lost 2 points against Bilbao, and will miss the next match against Villareal and a semi-final match against Atletico in the Copa.

I seriously can't believe how this is a red card. It's a simple yellow for me. There was no "danger" or "harm" that Gurpegi had suffered from having his face shoved away. And yet, he falls like a twig.

Miguel Angel Ayza hijo de puta! Terrible ref. He also ended the game earlier while we had a FK.

^ That's true. We should've at least gotten the chance to take that free-kick. The time was +2:50, when he had added on 3 minutes. But I'm not worried about that as much as I am for the match against Atletico that we have to now play without Ronaldo.

I agree it was a ridiculous hard red, a yellow for me too. But Ronaldo should blame himself for moaning too much over nothing, sometimes it pisses other players, lesson learned. Imagine this happens in later game of CL??? RM would be so screwed

@Tuan

You're spot on mate. It's best for him to learn his lesson from these matches than the CL semi-final (assuming we even get that far). But the Liga race is only a matter of 1-2 points, and 2 points dropped at San Mames means that Barca and Real are now tied on points (when we could've been two points ahead of Barca), and Atletico are 3 points ahead of us both. So it's not like Madrid-Bilbao was just a regular league match. It was a tie that has a huge factor on the outcome of the top 3 in La Liga.

this is ridiculous. I was looking forward to the atletico real game, but without ronaldo it won't have the same flavour as a neutral.

Is it just me, or referees are just worse and worse every year?

^ The fact that diving is becoming more "mainstream" among players contributes to that too. But off-side and foul mistakes by the linesmen are inexcusable.

Of course it was unnecessary but there was absolutely no need for a red card. God damn.
However, let's play devil's advocate. The referee wasn't looking when the incident happened. The only thing the referee saw was the player on the ground and Bilbao players around him. This will obviously seem to the referee as an 'attack' and in that case, a red card might be justified (still very light).
But of course, it would be a whole different story if the linesman was watching it. Anyways.
On another note. Nice to Atletico give Barcelona and Real a run for their money.

The way he went down... pathetic.

Seriously though.. Cristiano knew what he was doing. He knew that when you put your hands on someone like that it's a red. And to be fair he dived the same way many time to give others red, so it's just karma. Didn't he do the same thing against Atleti and get sent off? Silly foul from him, Real could have lost the game..

@Wolfie LMAO with your pics :D
Unjustified red card for Ronaldo this time, but there's also some unjustified red card and penalty for Ronaldo too...

Lol, Ronaldo was owned here. Very harsh red card, i didnt see the game but the only one to blame here is Ronaldo.
It was just too stupid to get sent off that way, world class players should be clever enough to avoid provocation.
As for Nani last year, red cards are given easily by refs who are underpressure, sometimes its for you, sometimes against you.
The stupid Alba was sent off at same moment of the game yesterday.

@Tiki

I still don't understand how Alba's second yellow was a foul. Feghouli just ran right into Alba, who was turning away to avoid the challenge. I mean, I don't like Alba because he's not the cleanest of people when it comes to making the most of a challenge, but the red card was harsh.

Ronaldo surely didn't deserve a red but take a look at Jordi Alba's red.....

He didn't even try to foul the Valencia player, horrible refferieng in both cases.

Am I the only one that thinks that was definately a red card (deserved), no need for Ronaldo to do that... Only himself to blame

Clearly referees are incable of keeping up with modern tempo of the game. I will be very happy when technologies will be used to assist their decisions .

I agree with above , Ronaldo should have known better that players fall far too easy these days . Do not touch and do not moan because referee won't change his decision , let the captain do the complaining job.

Alabas was clear yellow , interferring with counter attack by fouling a player that could have ended in a goal.
