Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has agreed a new five-and-a-half-year contract worth up to £300,000 a week.

The 28-year-old England international will extend his current contract by four years, tying him to the club until June 2019.His old deal, which would have expired next year, paid up to £250,000 a week.I think this is silly from United, your thoughts?

United has to do this with a lot more players whose contracts expire in the next 6-12 months.
Carrick, Evra, Nani, Young, Valencia, Fletcher just to mention a few

Wayne Rooney's new contract. Up to £300,000 a week. £1,785 every hour and just under £30 every minute.

The deal will earn the 28-year-old Manchester United striker more than £70m over the next five-and-a-half years.

£15.6m- Wayne Rooney's annual wage eclipses the reported salary of Real Madrid winger Cristiano Ronaldo (£14.25m) and Barcelona forward Lionel Messi, whose reported wage is £12.08m a year, according to the 2013 Forbes rich list.

£160,000 - The figure he will have to spend once tax and national insurance contributions have been taken off his £300,000-a-week wage.

£30,000 - The average weekly wage of a Premier League footballer in 2011-12, according to statistics compiled by Deloitte's sports business group.

£517 - The national average weekly wage of a person working in the United Kingdom. The amount the prime minister earns palesin comparison to what Rooney will pocket, with David Cameron collecting around £2,740 each week.

65 - The amount of weeks it would take Barack Obama, the president of the United States, to make what Rooneyearns in just seven days, based on his £240,000-a-year wage.

No. Ronaldo earns 330.000 pounds a week after tax. Ronaldo is still the highest paid. Likewise for Messi. He earns something in the range of 250.000 - 300.000 per week after taxes.

Rather him stay at United with this really high wage than see him go to some other club like Chelsea.
Also forgot to mention that he will become an ambassador of the club after he retires and he will most definitely break Bobby Charlton's record. Excited to see more of our Rooney.

Yes!!! Let's hear the chelsea fans rage now!! A very good move for Moyes, props him for that. Rooney has been the only player that has been playing for his badge all throughout this season, other players need to step up their game. However, what comes as a great deal comes with a great sacrifice. I can foresee a lot of players deporting this summer.

Manchester United has the money, the stadium, the atractivity and the History in their favor...
There is no doubt that they will come stronger next year with new signings and great squad, the only problem for me is the coach, United and their fans should quickly admit that Moyes is not the man of the situation...

It's all mind games from Mourinho, Rooney is still going to Chelsea in the summer you'll see. God damnit Jose, please stop ruining football for other clubs!

On a serious note, this is good for the EPL. Manchester United will be challenging for the title once again next season.

Tuanis Nani signed a five year contract last year :/. Also carrick extended to 2015. I don't mind extending Evra and Valencia. It might be time for Young and poor Fletch to move on.

I dint knew about Nani, and I thought Carrick signed a 1 year deal last year just like Vidic but Im glad he will stay untill 2015 as he probably wont renew his contract then. I just dont want things to end up like Hargreaves case, that was the biggest blow for me since Ive been a united fan. Good players should retire at good teams.
