Racist Chelsea Fans
RealMadrid17 10 years ago Edited

Before Chelsea's Champions League fixture against PSG, a video was recorded of Chelsea fans in the metro of Paris refusing to allow a man of color to board the train while loudly chanting "We're racist and thats the way we like it.

This is just outrageous and disgraceful. Racism has NO place what so ever in football, or no where as a matter of fact. This is shameful and I hope Chelsea as a respectable club that they are do something about this and ban the fans because they are giving Chelsea FC a bad name and football in general. Under no circumstance is it acceptable to act this way towards any human being.

I have no words, honestly no words to describe how deplorable and disgraceful and heinous this is. It truly breaks my heart how some humans can act like this and get away with it.

Why are you even having this discussion? You're all saying the same thing. Chelsea have taken the appropriate measures against these people already. Obviously Chelsea as a whole and as a club can't be blamed for what a selected few drunk racist fans do, since they have taken these measures to assure it doesn't happen again. So get down your high horses and realize a club that have 100m fans cannot control them all. What kind of surveillance society would we live in then?

The links provided shows this unfortunately happen in most clubs from time to time. Especially in international cups. Working class, crowd mentality, growing immigration + globalization, growing extreme right sector and alcohol creates a perfect environment to ventilate their hateful comments. This happens all over Europe and it's because of the politics which THEN affects football.

Look at the Real Madrid-Bayern semi half a year ago when real supporters displayed a fucking Na-zi banner and got punished by the UEFA for example.

So get down your high horses and stop pretending this don't happen everywhere otherwise racism will never be kicked out of football. These fans will be dealt with. There's already a huge campaign going on to find out who did it and I'm certain they'll find out who did it. Disgusting 'fans' who shouldn't be affiliated with Chelsea no longer.

Chelsea suspended three fans over the shocking video of racist football thugs in Paris, as the black victim pushed off a train told of his ordeal.

The club announced that the three had been suspended from watching games at Stamford Bridge while further investigations took place into events at the Richelieu-Drouot station ahead of the Champions League game against Paris Saint-Germain.

In a statement, the club said: "If it is deemed there is sufficient evidence of their involvement in the incident, the club will issue banning orders for life. We have received substantial information to date following our witness appeal and we are grateful to the many Chelsea supporters who have provided information so far".
Case closed imo.

"We cannot punish," he told RMC. "We can punish what happens in the stadium, or within the stadium perimeter but outside, on the metro, what do you want me to do? " Michel Platini

Ooh no way ! After all he has some sense ! I am glad that Chelsea did their part and banned those scum ! Now , I am wondering wtf are authorities are doing ? Chelsea is doing better job than police .

Also I really still don't get all this attention on major news networks. There are much worse hate crimes and racist crimes happening all over Europe . Just dumbing down our society with what is more "relevant " and important . BBC major world network has front page with image of those scum lol come on i am sure there are way way more important things to report about . SmH .

Spot on Jose . We should not be ashamed but condone . Those scum are not us and not one of us .

One of the guys is Nigel Farage fan , according to @game , we should ban Nigel , give him fine and force him to apologize and be ashamed !

Logic .... smh

Anti-Semitic chanting before West Ham match probed

Video footage has emerged of a group of men, thought to be West Ham fans, chanting anti-Semitic abuse on a train in north London.

Anti-discrimination group Kick It Out has contacted police over the footage, filmed on Sunday. The video appeared on social media showing fans on the way to the 2-2 draw with Tottenham at White Hart Lane. West Ham said it had a "zero-tolerance policy" and perpetrators could be banned from the club's ground for life. It had warned fans before the match that "any form of discriminatory behaviour" would not be tolerated.

Most Spurs fans are not Jewish but the club has a historical association with London's Jewish community. The latest controversy comes after Chelsea supporters were filmed pushing a black man from a train on the Paris Metro last week.

'Wholly unacceptable'

Police are also investigating racist chanting at St Pancras station by men thought to be Chelsea fans returning from the Champions League match in Paris.

The latest footage was uploaded to Twitter by Spurs fan @RomanGeezer, who tweeted: "On the train on the way to the game, West Ham fans break into song in Stamford Hill, a Jewish area, scum." A British Transport Police spokesman said: "We are encouraged the public has the confidence to report incidents of inappropriate and offensive football-related behaviour to us. "We take these incidents very seriously, and is clear what happened on the Paris Metro and at St Pancras the following night were not isolated events."

A West Ham spokesman said: "If any individual is found to have behaved in an inappropriate way, the club's simple, zero-tolerance policy dictates that they will face the strongest possible action, including the option of a life ban from the Boleyn Ground." Tottenham said it hoped those involved would be identified and dealt with seriously.

A spokesman for the club said: "Anti-Semitism in any form is wholly unacceptable and we support all efforts to kick it out of the game. "We hope that those individuals responsible for this vile behaviour are identified and dealt with in the strongest way possible."

It's pretty ironic that this happened, especially because it took place the same day when the video that @tiki_taka posted above went viral.

@TheGame:

" This "control" you're talking about is a myth unless it is ubiquitous."

No, it's not. It's simply about what one can affect. Should Arsenal have come out and issued a statement about how much they deplore terrorism, just because Osama bin Laden was once seen wearing their shirt?

Of course not. There is literally nothing they can do about it, and it's not their fault. Same with random racists travelling across Europe who happen to be wearing a Chelsea shirt. This is not Chelsea's fault, nor is it something they could do anything about.

What do you expect them to do? Demand the receipts from every store or vendor that sells their shirts and meticulously check up on people via their bank/credit card statements, or something?

Like I said, be realistic.

"Like I said, they need to ensure that the guilty parties are found and punished. "

No, they don't. If it's not their official supporters groups, or within their own stadium, there is literally nothing that they 'need' or even CAN do about it.

"Racism is a systemic problem, and you have to deal with it in a systemic manner."

Only if the racism is institutional. Otherwise? It's entirely social, and not something that any private club is obligated to solve. You're acting like this is the Reconstruction era in the US. It's not. It's some assholes on a train in Paris, acting entirely of their own accord, doing something that EVERYONE has agreed is not okay.

Again: what do you expect Chelsea to do? Say: "Racism is Bad"? Do you think that will solve anything at all?

Totally agree with Lodatz here. There is literally nothing more a club can do to stop the racism. For instance the west ham manager and vice-captain (Mark Noble) both said in the evening standard and on their website that there will be zero-tolerance for any kind of racist abuse. After that they cannot do anymore than condone it once it has happened. What else could they do?

^I would like to give an example about çArşı. This kind of attitude has never happened with Beşiktaş but as we are known with our actions about racism → It's easy to deal with it. If this happens in Beşiktaş, (won't happen anytime but just an example) We probably find the man who did this and make sure he won't leave the hospital at least for a week. And that would probably stop another people make the same mistake again.

Oh, this thread again. thought we were passed it. As Ricky Gervais says; Never judge a racist by his football shirt!

And after all Chelsea banned 7-8 people already 3 days after the incident. Some lost their jobs and all were publicly shamed.

Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups..

@Lodatz, if "EVERYONE" agreed that racism is "not okay", then racism would not exist. You're creating a straw man; no one is suggesting that this is Chelsea's "fault" or that they are a racist club. But the responsibility must fall on them to address the issue at hand. Frankly, you yourself needs to be realistic about this situation: these were several English Chelsea supporters coming back from the PSG game who shouted "we're racist and that's the way we like it", while simultaneously pushing a black man off of a train. If English football constantly points its fingers at countries like Russia, Spain and Italy for their lack of a proper stance against racism, then they must have a zero-tolerance approach with no restrictions when it comes to their fans.

"No, it's not. It's simply about what one can affect. Should Arsenal have come out and issued a statement about how much they deplore terrorism, just because Osama bin Laden was once seen wearing their shirt?"

Yes.

"There is literally nothing they can do about it." You wrote this phrase multiple times and it is just empirically false. They have identified and banned several fans from their stadium who were involved, and not through the inefficient and vacuous means of checking their credit card/banking statements like you are sarcastically suggesting, but through getting information from eye witnesses who were willing to identify these individuals. Chelsea took a stance and set a precedent that racism will not be tolerated. If you're a club (and probably in the top 1% of all clubs) like Chelsea, and therefore in a position of power and authority, it is rarely a matter of CAN you do something about this but SHOULD you.

@KTBFFHSWE, "Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups". Exactly. What brought these fans together? Was it their racism, love of the club, both or neither (perhaps peer pressure)? The fact that you cannot easily make this distinction is grounds for taking action to hammer home the message that the club does not tolerate racism.
