Yep. It's a disgrace.

What a shame. Has FIFA gotten involved? I suppose it can seriously damage the reputation of arguably the best competition in the world if this situation doesn't get sorted out. This is the 21st century, for crying out loud! But how naive of me; who cares about morals if your finances are at stake?

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Qatar should not have been given the WC

This country does not deserve to get the WC. All FIFA wants is £.

Bring a proof, this is just some random people accusing other random people.
Either way if this is even true, it's just the contractors that are doing it, it doesn't give you the right to call it "Qatar" is doing this and this.

^ Then who IS doing it? Is that not enough proof for you? They even stated the names of the slaves, for crying out loud.

And we're not blaming Qatar here. We're blaming FIFA for creating this situation in the first place.

No it sounds like everyone is blaming Qatar, I can easily tell this is bullshit ( I live in Qatar)

I think every country has the right to host the world cup for the equality sake, But Iraqi has a point here, it's going to be extremely hot for the european players because they are not used to play under this kind of temperature 40˚- 45˚ degrees.. I wouldn't go to watch a live match there, so how would it be for the players to play under this circumstances? Qatar is not the ideal place to host the world cup.

@Alex

I'm afraid I have to object with a point Alex. I believe Lodatz has also mentioned this before.

If you want equality and you wish to host these types of athletic events at certain countries for the sake of equality, host the OLYMPICS. That's what the Olympics are MEANT for. Not the World Cup.

The World Cup is strictly football related, and has nothing to do with "equality" or "world peace". The only nations that should host the WC are nations that are football oriented (most European and South American nations), or are coming to be football oriented (eg Australia, USA). Qatar has no major history whatsoever in football. They had no right to this WC.

And in case you people think that I'm picking on Qatar, I'm not. Russia is just as bad of a place to hold it. Despite having a decent history in football, and boasting one of the games legends (Lev Yashin), Russia is no place for an African player or a black/dark-skinned player (whatever you want to call them). The immense racism in Russia makes it impossible for FIFA (as an organization "against" racism) to contradict themselves and host 2018 in Russia. It's absolutely ridiculous.

Go home Sepp Blatter. You're drunk, and you are ruining the passion of the game.

@Dynastian I disagree mate, Football is a game and every human being has the right to play it regardless of their history or how good they are at it. I'm not defending Qatar I said "Qatar is not the ideal place to host the world cup." merely for their hot weather and nothing more. As a traveler I don't discriminate a nation over another, and that's a total different story.

@Alex: every human being has the right to play the sport, sure. That doesn't mean every nation has earned the right to host the sport's most prestigious tournament.

@Lodatz Yes I understand that mate, But if they can provide a suitable ground for the event then why not? which I doubt they do, I've never been to Qatar but I know that their weather is very bad and that's not the ideal place for the world cup. however, They do have the right as everyone else, It's just another place on earth that's located in a different area and nothing more. maybe you should know something about me to understand why I'm saying all that. It's just because I don't believe in countries, all countries named by humans and I'm not proud of any. I'm not a nationalist person and have never waved any national flag, My country is the earth. and all humans are equal to me. It's just really annoying when someone claims what is right for the others and what is not without suggesting logically why they shouldn't host it instead.

@Alex: Well, one logical complaint is that they are having to build the venues for the WC entirely from scratch. I'm sure many of them will look pretty on the outside, but, they're going to follow the same sad story as those built in South Korea, and in South Africa, for the same purpose -- that is: they'll be lacking in atmosphere, and when the WC is over?

They'll just be gigantic buildings that will see no usage, and will fall into disrepair.

Here's a shot of what the Soccer CIty stadium, outside Jonhannesburg, looks like today:

A big, ugly, disused building that once held the World Cup final. Great.

None of these new stadiums are going to have the history, atmosphere and sparkle that the stadiums in, say, England, Spain, Brazil, Italy, Portugal, would have. Nations who BREATHE football into their lungs as often as air.

They won't have the cultural impact that they might have in, say, Uruguay, Mexico or Hungary, who have proud history within the sport, even if they're not top dogs at the moment.

Even giving the WC to Africa was a fair one, in terms of history, given how well Nigeria, Cameroon and Ghana have performed on the world stage. These are nations which EARNED their place at the table, to be considered contenders for such a prestigious tournament.

But Qatar?

Good grief. They've never even qualified for one.

So, to put aside all the political reasons (which are entirely valid, but I don't want to get into a debate over) such as the modern-day slavery, such as the human rights record of Qatar, such as the fact that it's a functioning monarchy-state, and that they have literally bought the votes for this with corruption at FIFA's highest level, just so that the Qatari royal family can get richer off tourism...

Yeah. And by that I mean: No.

Qatar haven't earned the right to host the world's most coveted tournament.

I think a requirement to even be considered to host the world cup should be having the Venues already built and in use. Like the example of South Africa, many were built just for the world cup and now remain abandoned. In Brazil, construction is still ongoing and it is terrible. I think the winner of the world cup should be the host the following year, another great incentive to get your nation to win it.

@Lodatz ok now that's a reasonable explanation :) +1 also the weather alone should be enough to refuse hosting it there anyways.

It doesnt surprise me, this country is the most racist one in the world...
I know how employees from Asia and Africa are treated, Sarkozy and Platini played a big role to let them World cup for money...
I'm ashamed that my country are doing bad buisness with those bastards especially in Lybia. 50.000 people in the name of democracy and revolution but it was just for oil and gaz.
Quatar invested in 2% of France revenues, Football, TV, Clothes, Psg...... I knew all this gifts done to us will have a price and im disgusted.

Why not? Why not? Qatar is an exotic place to make a World Cup happen, maybe some workers get 1 dollar per hour but I think they're happy with it, simply they don't know better.
