PUT YOUR TEAM TO THE ULTIMATE TEST
Footaholic 12 years ago
Arsenal, Egypt 178 2277

Most (not all) pundits and fans consider the 2 Spanish & German giants in the CL Semi-Finals to be the BEST teams in Europe CURRENTLY. Assuming they are, they would be the best standard by which to compare your own squad's strength. As such, my question is the following:

Which of Your Team's Players (If Any) Would Start The Majority of Games For one of Bayern, Dortmund, Barcelona, or Madrid?

If you wish to judge the strength of your own team or if the goal of your club is to rival the best in Europe than really have a think about it and give your HONEST conclusion. I think some of us will learn a thing or two.

IF you are a supporter of Any of the aforementioned clubs (i.e. Bayern, BVB, Barca, RM) you may also participate in saying which players you think would make your squads from A SPECIFIC TEAM. You would also be in a good position to judge the opinions put forth by the remaining clubs' fans and agree/disagree as to whether or not they would make the cut at this moment in time.

Rules: 1- BE REALISTIC 2-ANY OBJECTIONS/REJECTIONS SHOULD BE SUPPORTED WITH A LOGICAL EXPLANATION & 3-ENJOY

ARSENAL HAS 2-3 Players only that would start for one of these teams.
S. Cazorla = Would start in CAM for Bayern (and maybe alternate with Gotze in BVB or compete with Cesc in Barca)
B. Sagna = Def. Starts over Arbeloa in RM (and possibly alternate with Piszczek)
L. Koscielny = Would start over Boateng in Bayern and Barcelona (if Pique's injured)

That is IT. This shows how big of a gap there is between us and the VERY BEST. :/

*I meant Puyol (although Pique may also get injured) for Koscielny

Lloris could give most of these keepers a good run for their money.
Bale could slot into most teams here also.
Maybe Vertonghen and Dembele could compete as well, not as certain on these two as the two above though.
What do you think?

^^^^ there is not a better defender in all four teams than super jan imo. lloris is on a par with neuer and casillas. dembele in 3-5 years maybe. Bale obviously but what about sandro... cant see a better DM than sandro from the 4 semi finalists.

@quikzyyy

Wilshere plays a different role than Busquets or Khedira. He may replace Modric, but Modric is forced to play out of position at Madrid. Busquets is a DM that distributes the ball to Xavi and Iniesta, and doesn't attack much at all. His main role at Barca is to intercept oncoming passes and prevent counter-attacks before they can even start (and Wilshere is not capable of replacing Busquets' crucial role at Barca). Khedira, meanwhile, is a physical presence, something that Wilshere CANNOT replace. Unlike Wilshere, Khedira's main role isn't to make plays. That's Alonso's role (and Wilshere can't replace Alonso either). Khedira has to make tackles, help out the defense, and make occasional charges forward, but has to back track quickly. It's not in Wilshere's game to do this. Wilshere would profit more from a CAM starting role.

As for Footaholic's post, I'd like to make a starting XI combining Madrid with Bayern.

Hart could start in Barca and Dortmund.

Kompany in Barca or Dortmund. Maybe in Real if they want a less attacking option than Ramos in a game.

Aguero in Barca/Madrid instead of Higuain/Benzema and Villa/Pedro respectively.

Toure would be a tough one. Obviously not Barca because they preferred Busquets to him. None of the other teams use a traditional CDM. Probably in Real for Khedira. Khedira plays a lot of the physical style like Toure does.

Dzeko could fit in for Lewandowski. Dortmund's style should suit him.

Silva would be tricky. Not in the German teams probably. Replacing Ozil who is playing very well right now would also be tough. Not Iniesta/Xavi. Fabregas maybe? But then he himself doesn't start every game.

Bayern:
-David Luiz instead of Boetang

-Mata instead of Muller/Kroos

BVB:
-Petr Cech instead of Weidenfeller
-Azpi instead of Piszczeck
-Possibly Luiz for Subotic as well (I'm not sure about this one as I have not seen much of Subotic)
-Mata could rotate with Reus and Gotze (same goes for our loaned out player Kevin de Bruyne)

Real Madrid:
-Azpi for Arbeloa
-Luiz could rotate with Ramos and Varane

Barcelona:
-Petr Cech for Valdes
-David Luiz could rotate with Puyol and mostly start due to Puyol's old age
-Mata could rotate with Ineista or take Cesc's place and rotate with Xavi
-Hazard would take Tello's place and rotate with Villa (he could start more than him though)

for me i would choose from Man City

Kompany could replace pepe ( if varane is not playing ) but if varane was playing he will be ramos' sub

Richards instead of Arbeloa

Yaya Toure could replace Khedira effectively

Silva could replace Di Maria

Aguero instead of Higuain

Hart is a world class GK but we have the legendary Casillas and the Lopez who's great in my opinion , so Hart may become a sub only ( for casillas )

@V: Piszczek is way better than Azpi

@JuanMata10: Well I disagree. I see Azpi as the better RB. And keep in mind Azpi is only 23.

Martinez = Every of the aforementioned, except Barca.

Rodriguez = Dortmund and Barca.

Moutinho = Dortmund and Real.

Maicon = Bayern, and maybe Barca.

@shnadsy: Agree for the most part
-LLoris would start for BVB def. I don't think he'd start of Neuer or Casillas though. He's probably going to be a better keeper than Valdes BUT I don't think he'd start for Barca because they need a keeper who is excellent in playing from the back and I think Valdes is one of the best at doing that.
-Bale would easily start for BVB and could alternate with Ribery at Bayern. he would be a sub for CR& @ Madrid and I don't think he'd play for Barca (for stylistic differences).
-Vertonghen would EASILY start for Bayern or Barca (if Pique is in poor form again or Puyol injured) and probably over Subotic in BVB.

@quikzyy: Dynastian is absolutely 100% spot on about Wilshere except I'd like to correct him in saying that Wilshere's position atm is at CM and not as the CAM (although he can play there as well). Despite the fact that he's a great player he wouldn't get into any of the teams except BVB where he could alternate with Gundogan.

@FredTilson & @Ironfirst:
-Kompany would probably start in any of those 4 teams (except MAYBE RM if they want to keep Varane in the team). --Likewise, Aguero would be able to walk into any of those teams (except he probably wouldn't suit Bayern's current set-up).
-Silva, would similar to Mata & Cazorla, start in CAM for Bayern (and maybe alternate with Gotze in BVB or compete with Cesc in Barca). I think he'd have the hardest time displacing Ozil in RM (Both Kaka & Modric would LOVE to play there but never a get a look-in).
-Dzeko might be a sub for BVB but I don't think he's better than Lewandowski so I would say he WOULDN'T be counted for the purposes of this thread (NOT a candidate for starter).

To ALL ManCity & other fans: I'd like to make an make something clear about ****YAYA TOURE*****

I have recently found many people (not only on FR) refer to him as a CDM. IMO, this is incorrect. As @FredTilson has mentioned, that is where Barca tried to pigeonhole him there into their system and it didn't work. He is an old fashioned Box-To-Box Midfielder (i.e. he is NOT a holding/tackling specialist). He is often confused as a CDM because of his strength and physique BUT as City have shown that is not his natural position. He is modern-day Patrick Vieira (who, btw, is also often erroneously called a CDM even by Arsenal fans who should know better as it was Petite Emmanuel Petit & then Gilberto who played as the CDM in the 2 pivot).
Now, to tie that into this thread, he would probably alternate with Schweinsteiger in Bayern (which says a lot about his importance) & probably Gundongan at BVB. He doesn't fit the current formation of Barca and he would probably start in RM if they were playing a team that didn't require a specialized CDM.

@Vendetta & Other Chelsea fans:
-Cech would start for BVB and would be a more than capable alternative to Casillas & Neuer. However, for the same reasons I mentioned above regarding LLoris I wouldn't see him starting at Barca (wouldn't mind seeing a Barca fans perspective on this).
-Mata I already mentioned above (similar outcome to Silva & Cazorla)
-Hazard I think would be able to alternate with Reus and OCCASIONALLY Ribery at BVB & Bayern, respectively.
-@V: Forgive me But I don't think Luiz would start as a CB in ANY of these TEAMS. You may disagree but most people know my feelings about his ability as a CB. NOW, if you said a CDM I think under a proper manager he'd be in with a shout to alternate with S. Bender (who isn't as good as his brother at Leverkusen) and perhaps Khedira on occasion.
-Have to agree with @JUANMATA that Azpi wouldn't start over Piszczek (who is a good RB) but probably would over Arbeloa (if for no other reason, than that he's so disliked at Madrid).
-Terry/Cahill - I think one of these gusy would be a starter for Bayern in place of Boateng (who I do not rate at all) & maybe for Subotic at BVB.
