Player Profiles
Dynastian98 10 years ago Edited
Real Madrid 483 7140

I've seen Lodatz's passion for Steven Gerrard, and thought that his player profile on Gerrard was pretty well done. I was wondering if all you FootyRoom members would be interested in doing a similar Player Profile on the legend you choose. Footaholic did something similar with Club Profiles more than a year ago, but I don't think the newer members were aware of it. It was considered to be a successful way for members to express the success and history of their favorite clubs, and many members had participated. So what do you think?

If you agree, this is what you would normally be expected to cover in your player profile, if possible:

Club Career
International Career
Achievements
Statistics (goals scored, clean sheets kept, etc.)
Records
Strengths/Weaknesses
Highlights/Disappointments of Career
Style of Play
Notable performances/matches/tournaments
Quotes from famous people on the player
Off-pitch contribution
Legacy

You would be expected to give a thorough rout on your player, and pictures/videos should be included for a better profile. It should be organized, neat, and written in formal and relatively clear English (if English is not your first language, don't worry. I just want others to be able to understand the message you are trying to send). PLEASE DON'T COPY AND PASTE OFF WIKIPEDIA.

Please cite all sources that you have used for information. Give credit where it's due, and credit will be given to you.

As you might expect, it's best to keep your opinion out of the player profile. The Profile is intended to be from an unbiased perspective. So if you claimed your player to be the greatest of all time, make sure you have multiple sources to back it up.

If this is successful, members will post their Player Profiles as different threads on pre-organized dates, and other members will try to give positive feedback.

Anyways, what do you guys think? I think Lodatz's Gerrard profile is a good benchmark, asides from the fact that his opinion is mixed all over with Gerrard's profile. Would you guys be interested in doing this? If so, please comment below on what you think about this, and how you would improve this chain-link thread idea, if possible.

I will at least wait until after the World Cup to do Messi, because you never know; we might be seeing a certain someone raising a certain trophy, before the summer is out, which would be worth including. ;)

I might try Glenn Hoddle, in the meantime?

@Lodatz: I dont think you have to do it right now, so you can wait for Messi after the WC. Glenn Hoddle would be a great idea too, he's Spurs legend and that would be perfect for you!!

Morten Gamst Pedersen, Legend for both Blackburn and Norway. He is without a doubt one of the most underrated premier league players of all time.

I'm not sure when I'll be able to it, however. I'll probably do it bit by bit because my exams have just finished so I have time to relax :)

@Dephased

I understand your passion for local players and clubs, but the only currently active players I'm willing to accept Player Profiles on are the following:

Ronaldinho
Xavi
Iniesta
C. Ronaldo
Messi
Casillas
Lampard
Gerrard
Pirlo
Buffon
Totti
Ibrahimovic

etc. I hope you agree.

@Lodatz

If you wish, I can set the timing of your Player Profile on Leo Messi to after July 11th. I think doing 2 Player Profiles would be kind of unfair to the other members.

@Eden

It's okay mate, I understand. If you feel like you have the time to do it, don't feel afraid to post on this thread!

@Everyone else

Please read this. I've added a "Highlights/Disappointments in Career" and a "Strengths/Weaknesses" to the categories in a Player Profile. I think that even though this section may be opinionated, it's a necessary part of a player's career. With all due respect, I think that I will begin to assign dates for the Player Profiles soon. All dates will be after the WC, because I'm aware that we, as football fans, will make any excuse to watch a WC game. If you have a preference of a certain date, please post on my wall. I'm thinking about assigning two members per week. Feel free to post your opinions and suggestions below.

Taken players are...

TheGame - Gabriel Batistuta
Tuanis - Francesco Totti
Ramaboy - Xavi Hernandez
Emrecan - Roberto Carlos
Lodatz - Lionel Messi
Vendetta - Zlatan Ibrahimovic
Iraqi_Madridista - Iker Casillas
Shpalman - Andrea Pirlo
Michaeldoctor1 - Raul Gonzalez
Tuan_jinn - David Beckham
Quikzyyy - Thierry Henry
Dynastian - Cristiano Ronaldo
Heisinburg - Oliver Kahn

Great idea , but I really don't want to let anyone down because it requires time and dedication and I am afraid I wont be able to complete mine on time , also been pretty busy for past months . Trying hard to have a chance to visit my favorite forum . However, I would enjoy reading all of yours .

I pick Lilian Thuram. But I can't promise anything. I'll do it when I feel like it, and I'll post it when I feel like it, if I feel like it.

@dynast We should either only allow retired players, or allow any player. And I would be more interested in hearing about a blackburn legend than hearing about ronaldo or casillas whose carreers and achievements we probably all know very well. To be honest I wouldn't even bother to read stuff on players I watch and read about all the time already.

Yes , retired players are even better idea . I would like to know more about players that I never witnessed playing full career and do not know much about .

@King & @Marcus

That sounds like a good idea. In that case, I'm not going to do Cristiano Ronaldo.

I won't force other members to change their choices, but currently there are 6 members who will do active players (Ramaboy, Lodatz, Tuanis, Vendetta, Iraqi, and Shpalman). If you would be so kind to change your choice to a retired player, it would be greatly appreciated. :)

Thanks for your suggestion guys. I will change my choice to Ferenc Puskas.

Lodatz 10 years ago

I don't mind changing, I guess, but I do think that your original list of acceptable players was a good one, Dynast. I mean, with players like Xavi, Iniesta, Totti etc, they are winding down their careers, and their legacy has already been well-established.

For such players, anything they win now is more like an icing on the cake than a career-defining moment.

Lodatz 10 years ago

Maybe I'll do Beckham, or Owen. ;)
