Paulinho to Chelsea?

Stamford Bridge side plan contentious White Hart Lane swoop.

Tottenham midfielder has reportedly agreed a deal to join Chelsea this summer according to theMetro.

Read great Chelsea stories in Indonesian Bahasa! Chelsea berita.

Blues boss Jose Mourinho will look to lure the 25 year old to Stamford Bridge and have already begun discussions with FIFA agent Giuliano Bertolucci, who helped Chelsea to bring in Oscar, David Luiz and Ramires.

Real Madrid and AC Milan are also said to be keen on the former Corinthians man but Chelsea are leading the chase to sign the combative midfielder.

Paulinho started the season well but has seen a marked dip in form since Andre Villas-Boas was axed and a move to west London could well tempt the Tottenham man, especially as the White Hart Lane side has failed to secure a Champions League berth.

Chelsea pipped Spurs in the race to sign £32m playmaker Willian and will look to make Paulinho their latest Brazilian capture in a move that is sure to anger fans of the north London club.

Tottenham paid £17m for Paulinho last July and it may well take a bid well in excess of that fee to convince Daniel Levy to sell to an arch rival.

As well as being able to offer Paulinho Champions League action Chelsea can probably offer a significant pay-rise and want to secure a deal so as to be able to unveil the player after the 2014 World Cup finals.

I doubt Levy would sell for less than 25m.

No offense Lodatz, but we don't want him. You can keep him.

Suits me. :)

Maybe Mou knows something you don't, though...? O:)

He does, I'm sure of it. My knowledge in football players doesn't compare to Mourinho's encyclopedia about football players stored in his brilliant mind. I guess we'll see in the transfer window :)

Ultimately, if we lose him and he turns out to be great for you (or whoever else -- Roma have been interested too), then it's our own damn fault for this shambles of a season.

There are several players I think we've treated like crap (Lewis Holtby springs to mind), and I'm pretty ashamed of it. :/

Speaking of Spur's atrocious season, what has happened to Lamela? Wasn't he supposed to do great over there?

Case. In. Point.

He started out half-decent, seemed to get scared, and then vanished into injury for, like, 5 months. I really don't know by this point what's going to happen with him.

Anyhow, no need for me to air out all my grumbles about Spurs this year. Just saying: if Paulinho leaves and ends up being awesome, then Tottenham really have themselves to blame. I just know Daniel Levy, too, and can't see him letting him go cheap.

Well I guess he's younger and possibly better than Ramires so would go straight next to Matic in the starting XI.

We need a LB (Shaw) CDM/CM (Paulinho) ST (Costa) and maybe a CB (Mangala/Hummels)

oh, and bring Courtois back!

Lodatz will probably disagree, but I think Fernandinho deserves his spot in the Brazil team for the WC.

@ Well you are a Manchester City Fan so obviously you would say that. They are both great players but I think Paulinho is more suited into the brazil squad with the likes of Oscar Neymar Hulk

Those players are exactly the reason Paulinho is less suited. All of them (including Luiz at CB) are attack minded as is Paulinho because of which they leave huge gaps in defence. That is why Fernandinho would be a better fit.

Argentina were setup similarly in the 2010 world cup. Theyscore loads of goals against easy teams but when they come up against a well drilled defensive counter attacking side, like Argentina did against Germany, they'll be totally outplayed.

Anyways he was called up for the last international match that Brazil played after a long gap, so clearly Scolari might have something for him.

I would think we will try to add few english players . And What the hell happened to English defensive midfielders ... or defenders ...or attacking midfielders ... it is just depressing ...

@Fred: speaking for myself, I would say that Paulinho deserves the starting spot simply because of everything he has been part of with this new Brazil team, including winning 3-0 against Spain in last summer's Confederations Cup (also beating Italy 4-2).

He's under-performed at Tottenham, but I honestly place that down to poor deployment by his managers.

If you believe Fernandinho has earned it ahead = of him, I won't argue with you, because yes he's been impressive. He's showed his class. But I do think Paulinho's value to the team is his knowledge of the manner in which this Brazil team has been built, as much as his talent.

If I was Scolari, I'd be sticking with what worked last year, in the Southern hemisphere...

Maybe Mou will sell Hazard and buy this guy. Any truth about this > Mourinho: 'Eden is not 100 per cent ready to sacrifice himself for the team. I'm not happy about that.'

^You know, managers can criticize their players all they want. It doesn't mean he hates him; he's just trying to motivate him to do better. Doesn't Hazard want to the best in the world? He needs to give 100% every match to reach that status.

Besides, why sell our second best player imo?

^ Wouldn't beat surprised if he actually said that. That's why he built the team around Oscar, not Hazard. Hazard reminds of Ronaldo and Oscar reminds me of Kaka. Hazard strikes me as the player who would fit it in at teams like Madrid and try them out.

^That's ironic considering Mourinho's favorite player at Madrid was Ronaldo (Hazard) and never relied on Kaka (Oscar). Wouldn't you say the situation is the opposite of what you actually said, rama?

^ I am implying that Hazard would like to move around more, whereas Oscar, who resembles Kaka, would not like to as he actually wanted to stay at Milan. Sorry if it came out wrong.

I see, well yeah that's definitely true. I remember Hazard once saying he wants to play for Real Madrid once in his career. On the other hand, Oscar said in an interview he wants to follow in Lampard and Terry's footsteps to become a Chelsea legend.

@V, I don't think Mou looks for the type of player but rather for the type of person..
