Manchester United this season

I personally believe they need a Ozil or a David Silva in the team they have no creativity.

Rooney and Depay are having a bad season.

What do you guys think?

If you're going to play a possession game, you need a couple of things:

-Wingers who can whip in good crosses and combine well
-A target striker
-Two midfielder maestros, one higher up than the other (think Iniesta/Xavi)
-A defence that can pass out of the back

Does United have ANY of those right now?

I'd argue that Herrera and Bastian could maaaaybe be the midfield. Martial can maaaybe be the target man. Blind passes it really well, but Smalling, Darmian, and whoever plays the other fullback can't. Depay was supposed to be that winger, but his crosses have been diabolical. Makes me miss the precision of Di Maria last season.

In the end, I don't think United can put a checkbox beside any one of those criteria. Those stats you posted reflect that.

There's already Juan Mata.

-A target striker

Hernandez would've been sweet. Banging goals for fun at the moment when getting CONSISTENT playing time

A lot of people keep forgetting that Herrera is out. He's the heart and Engine for the midfield. You can actually form a top 6 team with the players out currently. I have no issues with LVG's philosophy. You can see progression if you pay close attention. My main issue with him is his team selection. Why would you select two out of Schniederlin/ Carrick/Schweini at the same time? I do not understand his adamancy in playing them.

@Sunflash: We have a defence that can pass from the back when Blind plays there. And to be honest, as long as we have a solid wall there, I don't care if we can pass from there or not. That 3rd goal for Wolfsburg, every one in the stadium except our defenders saw a one two. I think when we're healthy, we have a solid defence except that RB position. I trust Smalling, Jones, & Shaw are good to hold their own. Darmian? Not so much. He's nothing more than an expensive Buttner. And I strongly believe that pairing Herrera with Schniederlin is the key for the next few years. Rooney needs to play right wing, where he can play, Martial up top, and Mata as CAM...or Mata out wide, Rooney as CAM...trust me, we have the team.

As far as I see, all our problem are team selection based. None that can not be fixed. If only LVG was a little open to suggestion...

Depay's not having a bad season. He has nothing special at all. Scoring goals in Eredivisie doesn't mean anything for big clubs and big leagues anymore, that league is just amazingly weak.

I think one the main problems is LVG's transfer philosophy. He wants young players that'll listen to everything he says. That's why he signed Martial, Depay, Blind, Darmian kinda players. I mean there's nothing wrong with them, but you can't just waste your money on them and make them the main players on your squad, if you're Manchester United's coach you have to think bigger than that. Man Utd have more potential than any other premier league team to get closer to teams like Barca, Madrid and Bayern but you can't do that with Depay or Martial or Blind. You can't even lift the Premier League title with them.

I don't think LVG is the right coach for a club like Man Utd. He doesn't look like he cares enough.

I would love to see Carlo Ancelotti there.

What does annoy me to a considerable degree is watching players such as Hernandez and Di Maria play terribly for us, and excellent for other clubs, while Bastian/Depay/Darmian/Mata/Fellani played great with other clubs, and play terrible with us.

This is a problem that goes beyond individual players, manager, or even system.

Well said there. Would annoy the f out of me too.

I'd still say Hernandez NEVER got a proper chance. He had 18 starts (2011-2012) AT BEST in his Man Utd career & actually scored 10 goals that time.
Also in 2010/2011 had 15 starts and scored 13, in 2012-2013 9 starts 10 goals.

You can't expect someone to be ludicrously good when he comes from the bench every single time.

Season 2013-2014 - 6 starts and f*cking 18 sub appearances.

In Real Madrid 7 starts (16 sub appearances) 7 goals & 4 assists.

Sorry for bringing too many stats, but bottomline is - give him consistent playing time & he'll deliver. 17 goals in 20 appearances in Leverkusen proves that (3 against Monchengladbach, who had just beat Bayern & 5 in UCL) Yep, starting to take the piss with all these stats.
