I don't feel any different tbh. He's taking a fanbase that lives and breathes on attacking football and parking his bus while focusing on defense. Our defense under LVG was pretty statistically good already, we need GOALS. GOALS. You know, when the ball goes into the other team's net. I know it's a foreign concept Jose, but please try.

I didn't think we'd win without focusing on attack. I still feel that way. If you can't score, you can't win. Our defense is amazing, but these draws are old already. We've drawn more than anyone else in the league. Feels bad man.

@Chelsea8 On what part? United having second best manager alive on the planet since sir Alex? Or them being lucky?

@Sunflash But the real question is, Mourinho or Van Gaal? Which is the worse?

Van Gaal without a doubt. Jose brings this convoluted hope with him wherever he goes, and doesn't go touting his damn "philothfy"

But that's always been Jose's style though. It's not like one can expect anything else. He even turned Real Madrid into a hybrid of a fearsome counter-attacking team and a group of barbarians on defense. If Mourinho thinks there is a good chance of him losing the game, he will park the bus. The one time he was politically forced to play properly when he knew he was going to lose.... was the 5-0 drubbing in the Camp Nou in 2010. Except for that one time, he always parks the bus when he thinks he might lose or be at a disadvantage.

That being said, he brings a mentality of winning to his side no matter what. He knows his standards, his players know his standards, and his fans know his standards.

Two interesting philosophies of approach.

Johan Cruyff: "If you can't win, make sure you don't lose."

Sir Alex Ferguson: "I've never played for a draw in my life."

Clearly Mourinho prefers Cruyff's philosophy when approaching a game. Which would United fans rather have (since you guys have had both Mourinho and Sir Alex at your club)?

Thanks for bringing it back up, Emobot.

Couldn't have put it better myself. Mourinho has clearly ran out of attacking strategies. However, that's the reason why a guy like Fellaini brings a fresh new approach to his gameplay.

Rather than relying on pacy players to burst for counter attacking, lobbing long balls to Fellaini really helps make time for everyone toreorganize themselves because his aerial abilities are top notch. The same thing happened for Van Gaal too. People keep bagging Fellaini out for his ruthlessness, which isn't false, I agree, but tactically he is very useful and plays well.

The only question is our finishing, which has been overall dogshite this season and that's one thing Mourinho needs to fix.

Mourinho has clearly ran out of attacking options, which is why Fellaini is so key to his gameplay. His aerial expertise brings a fresh approach to not only Mourinho's football, but for Van Gaal too. People keep bagging Fellaini out for his ruthlessness, which isn't false, I agree, but tactically he is very useful and plays well.

@Dynastian

Jose brings no imagination to attack. He just signs really good forwards and expects them to score. Some, like Ibrahimovic, revel in that freedom and do very well. Most...don't.

I wish we had fierce counter-attacking. I'd take that. Even his Chelsea sides were always accomplished going forward, and I can't say the same about his current United one.

As for the Cruyff and Sir Alex approaches, you're asking that at a bad time. We've drawn nearly half our games this season. Fuck draws.
