Ryan Giggs is
certainly one of the greatest players in the proud history of Manchester
United, but is he the best? Well, that really depends on how you
define "best."
Most people would probably give the nod to George Best, who is widely
recognized as one of the 10 best players in the history of the game, or Sir
Bobby Charlton, the English legend who holds the record for most goals at Manchester United.
One
could make a case, however, for more modern-era players like Cristiano
Ronaldo and Eric Cantona, who were beyond
fantastic in their brief time at OldTrafford.
That's the thing about Giggs, who was voted as the best player in
Premier League history as part of last year's EPL 20 Seasons Awards—he's been
great for so long at United, it's hard to pick anyone ahead of him, despite
that in any given season of his career with the Red Devils, he may not have
been the best player on the field.
From Peter Schmeichel to Cantona to David
Beckham to Roy Keane to Edwin van derSar
to Ronaldo to Ruud van Nistelrooy to Wayne Rooney to Nemanja Vidic to Robin
van Persie, Giggs has always been there and always been great, if never the
greatest. That said, his longevity, sustained excellence and ability to adapt
his style as the game evolved make him one of the true greats—and maybe the
greatest—in Manchester United history.
