Borussia Dortmund have confirmed that Mats Hummels has requested to leave the club at the end of the season and join Bayern Munich.

The statement said: "The player Mats Hummels informed Borussia Dortmund that he wishes to leave the club in order to join FC Bayern Munich with effect from the 2016/2017 season.

However the Bundesliga champions have yet to make an offer for the Dortmund captain.

Thoughts?

38 million for a player they could have gotten for free next season. Wow.

Sometimes I'm boggled by just how much money is in this game now.

BVB would have sold him to anyone else, rather then letting him going for free as Lewa. There's no point of keeping the player when you don't have a team which could compete for big trophies next season.

Hummels still would have had to accept the new contract. If he really wanted to go to Bayern and Dortmund were trying to ship him elsewhere, he could have avoided it.

The price tag is fair for both teams, negotiations was going to lead to that amount of money anyway. His price tag is all about speculations, half of the big guns are interested in signing him, and ready to even pay a little more than Bayern, Bayern had the lead only because it's Hummells favorite destination and aware of the number of clubs that would get into negotiations if Bayern makes time to put the price, the player wouldn't have liked Bayern to took that long to pay that price and would probably start negotiating with other team more generous than Bayern in term of wages. Bayern imo tried to act fast to get a demanded player and at the same time weakening their main domestic rival, while I'm sure Dortmund was keen on listening to any offer else than Bayern. They started a little to deliver this season after a bad season and they got one of their best players helping Bayern. That's sportively crual and put them in pressure, but they had no choice since their player asked for leaving. Dortmund would have loved I'm sure that the player start talking to other teams, the price would have raised a little and they would have avoided another sad story for their fans...
