Would you rather have an unsettled rooney who doesnt want to play for you or use the money to buy a world class replacement?
I understand your frustration I would prolly feel the same about Drogba signing for Manchester United as well. But at the end of the day he was just not happy or maybe the media are just exaggerating Rooney's reactions. anyways! Peace :)
@TheGame: We never wanted it to be public. In fact, ManUtd are the ones who made this public with their stupid Mata/Luiz for Rooney +10 mill rumor to make Chelsea back off, which just angered their fans because they thought they rejected Mata for Rooney. Due to their failed attempt, the saga is now in Rooney's hand which means he'll soon push for a move. Mourinho has only pushed him with that quote and Rooney will be a blue *vomits* sooner or later.
@Vendetta. I do not think you have been paying attention. Mourinho publicly made a move for Rooney around July 13th. Then you have Hazard and Cech talking about how much of a pleasure it would be for them to play alongside Rooney. How can you say Chelsea never wanted it to go public when it seems that they have been talking about Rooney every single day for a week now? From a strategic point of view the Mata/Luiz rumor was brilliant, because it was an attempt to unsettle Chelsea after Mourinho's constant harassment. And yea, the day Rooney wears the blue colors of Chelsea is the day Pele un-retires and wins 3 Ballon d'Ors. Go read about Gabriel Heinze and his failed attempt to move from United to Liverpool. Manchester United simply does not sell to domestic rivals.
@ fredTilson, are you hear from Rooney that he want to go ? Or you read daily mail ?
@TheGame: I think you're the one not paying attention. Mourinho never publicly made a move for Rooney. He was asked about Rooney and responded by saying this (and it was July 12th btw):
“It’s a funny trick question,” Mourinho said.
“From an ethical point of view I can not speak about other team’s players. But I won’t speak with hypocrisy. It’s not in my nature. I always speak what I think.
“He is a player I like very much but I can’t say much more. He is fast and direct and I like him. But he is a Manchester United player.”
That right there proves Mourinho never "publicly made a move for Rooney".
Secondly, so what if Hazard and Cech say they would love to see Rooney at Stamford Bridge? Once again, they were asked that in an interview and spoke the truth. This doesn't help force Manchester United to sell or made Chelsea publicly announce their interest. De Gea has stated he would like to see Fabregas at Old Trafford, that means he is forcing a move? Chelsea haven't been talking about Rooney every single day about Rooney for a week, the MEDIA (thanks to United) have been talking about Rooney to United for a week.
How is the Mata/Luiz to United rumor brilliant? That was complete bollocks plus it was obvious, and when some ManUtd fans started to believe that they actually rejected Mata the board and Moyes got criticized. They could have thought this one out before starting a stupid rumor like that. Constant harrasment? Hah! Mourinho negotiated properly by not revealing anything about the bid or bringing out details about his interest in Rooney, then Manchester United had to make it public which frankly is quite foolish of them because as I've stated before, the transfer saga is now in Rooney's hand. All he needs to do is hand in a transfer request. United would be foolish to decline a transfer request and keep the squad uncomfortable because of one unsettled player.
I'll bookmark this thread and gladly ask you where is Pele's three Ballon d'Ors when the move is done.
@ mladen - I was commenting on what Woodward said, that he'd run down the contract if Rooney made a fuss. When he was your best striker, I could understand giving into his demands. But now, IF he creates a fuss, why not sell and buy an adequate replacement.
@Ven, who told you we are angry because mata is rejected! no way we swap rooney with mata
check this: rooney worst season VS. mata best season
@Vendetta, when you make your interest known IN PUBLIC the way Mourinho did, you are making a move for the player. That was Mourinho's intention all along and that's how the media interpret it, quite rightly. What De Gea, Cech and Hazard did were all the same. They don't just pick a random player and admit their interest just for the heck of it. It is clear as daylight what their intentions were. Mourinho didn't reveal anything about the bid? This is what he said: "We love the player, we are interested in the player, we made the bid. We have nothing more to say and nothing more to do. And now we have to respect and be ethical in this process," Mourinho said.
"The official bid is just about a certain amount of money, it doesn't involve players and it doesn't involve players in the possibility of the negotiations to continue," he added, raising the prospect of another offer. So your statement is simply false. United might be foolish to keep an unsettled Rooney, but they would be even MORE FOOLISH to give him to Chelsea. I agree with @Enjoyneer_RED, I would not trade Rooney for Mata or Luiz, but that is coming from one United fan. And besides, seems like I was right as Moyes stated today that the club's position on Rooney has not changed and Chelsea have decided to look elsewhere in the form of Higuain.
@TheGame: That quote was AFTER ManUtd publicly decided to announce they rejected a bid for Rooney. Try to show me a quote from Mourinho before the Mata/Luiz rumor started that showed him talking about a bid.
That infograph goes beyond the stats:
-That was one of United's best seasons while Chelsea had one of their worst seasons
-Rooney is in his prime while Mata hasn't reached his prime yet
-SAF > Benitez
-The stats still show Mata is the better playmaker
@Vendetta, he did not talk about the bid before the rumor spread out, I agree with you. But like I said, he made his interest in Rooney known way before the bid was even made. The media ran with it once he made those statements. Rooney isn't going to Chelsea Vendetta, just let it go! LOL
@TheGame: I guess time will tell then ;)
Chelsea confident of landing Rooney . "Deal will be done in late August". ( 26.August Man Utd- Chelsea ) .I won't be sorry.....but if we sign Fabregas.
haven't Chelsea offered £40mill for him?! jesus christ accept already
^Nope, just a bunch of rumors.
@mladen : Fabregas is not leaving this year, Barça is not selling and the player don't want to move this year, if he leaves next year, i think he will join Arsenal but he wants to see if he'll get some playing time next season.
but i really do hope utd sell him! assguson has totally ruined him! jose can turn him to an absolutely world class player! not that he isnt right now! but even more lethal!
@devilz
I believe Footaholic made a comment about this earlier. You see, when Fabregas went to Barca, Arsenal included a deal in the contract so that if Fabregas is sold for more than 25 Million Pounds, Arsenal will receive 50% of that fee, and that Arsenal have the first say of denial in Fabregas' transfer. This means that Fabregas CAN'T go to a team Arsenal doesn't want them to. So it doesn't matter if Barca say yes or no, as long as Wenger says no (which he will), Fabregas can't join United. :/
^^ Its not that simple. A lot of reliable sources have said that the clause if actually Arsenal receiving 50% of anything above 35 million (what they sold for) if he is resold. First refusal only means that they are offered Cesc first, if he doesn't want to go there, there is nothing they can do. So Cesc to United will happen if Barca are willing to sell and if Cesc wants to go there. But those are two very big Ifs.
Seriously this is getting ridiculous.
"Any player that wants to go to the World Cup, if they are a second choice at their club, then they're in trouble, they're in trouble," Mourinho said at a press conference on Thursday on Chelsea's pre-season tour. "This is a crucial year for that and many national team coaches are worried because they want players to play regularly for their teams."
Nice try Mourinho, but even if Rooney was a second choice at United, he is indispensable at the international level for England. And even if he wanted to go to Chelsea, he would have no power as Ed Woodward has already stated "There are no contract renewals that are being discussed. I am not sitting down with any player on an extension and there is no trigger date in the diary. Would we be afraid to run a contract down? Of course not."
So keep your Rooney obsession to yourself, Mourinho because making it public isn't going to bring you anything, except disappointment. United aren't just going to hand you the EPL title.
