If they kept their star players, although hard to do so, they would be a force in Europe. They're just a feeding club. (Is feeding the right word? seems kinda strange :P)

They are surely great at extracting good fees for their players.

Compare this to Genk
Benteke : £7 million
Courtois : £5-6 million
De Bruyne - £7 million

And to Ajax:
Nigel de Jong - £0.85 million
Van der Vaart - £5 million
Ibrahimovic - £13 million

Mladen anderson was worth 30 million. We are lucky not to pay 50 million for him. He is just too old now,

Nice one, rama. Love the article. I guess none of you are surprised I'm here to comment, but I feel proud of how the club has been doing such fantastic business during the last decade. Yes, we could've been a big force, but the economy of the club is rock solid due to all the profit.

I'm also glad people point out the fact that Benfica have exported some top class players the last two-three years or so.

@mladen,

Glory_Hunter is absolutely right. He was worth 30 million, now it sure doesn't look like it. Anderson was young and performed way, way better for Porto than he's done for United. It's like Torres; you can never predict how a player will perform when he changes club, environment, league etc.

As amazing as Porto are with scouting and selling, I freaking despise their way of negotiating. Just panning out the negotiation until the last couple of weeks of the transfer window and always over-pricing their player's values. It's cruel. Very clever, but cruel.

^ Haha, how many times I've heard that before. You should blame Jorge Mendes, he's arguably the most sly person on this planet (but what a wonderful businessman he is). Just look how he enjoys it. >.<

He's an asshole ruining football. :p

Porto, on the other hand, are just freaking awesome. I hope that if they are so financially stable, they can start retaining more stars (right after you sell us Jackson Martinez).

The atractivity of Porto is huge cause every player knows that shining with porto guarantees a big transfer to a big club. in the other hand all teams know that Porto players are Rarely flops except Anderson maybe so they sell easily players at highest price. their big merit is to travel to south America looking for unknown youth talents, forming them and make them great players. we also can notice that Portuguese style of playing is the style that looks like most south American style so the transition is perfect.

^ Anderson wasn't a flop. He was great at Porto, but United ruined him.
