@Golden, I nearly got my prediction right from last night in the chat, up until Lazio was drawn I was 5 for 5 :P

Newcastle-Benfica and Lazio-Fenerbache are the only hard ones to call

newcastle is unlucky. I think Benfica will knock yhem out. Spurs got the perfect draw & Chelseahad a good draw as well. 

I'd say Lazio will top Fenerbache.

As for the others, Spurs and Chelsea are favorites to top, but Chelsea nearly slipped up against Steaua Bucharest and Spurs barely beat Inter Milan, so there may be a chance that they fail to qualify, but it's a very slim chance (and the other team will need a LOT of luck on their side to beat the two English teams).

As for Newcastle - Benfica, I agree with Footaholic. It's a hard one to call, but Benfica have more experience at this level of competition, so I would say that they are favorites to win.

Don't underestimate Basel, remember last year champions league? I think this one will not be easy but for me

every match is gonna be really even. Dont underestimate rubin who send Atletico out. And Dont FFS underestimate Basel who this year in EL has been better than last year in CL..

Someone's gotta play devil's advocate. I think the pressure in the Premier League will be too much for Chelsea and Spurs to perform well in this competition.

I'd like to add that I said, since the round of 32, the final will contain Spurs and Benfica, and I still stand on it -- unless they were to face in the semis.

Dont be too certain there Lodatz Basel has done great things against Utd both home and away and went through against Z€nit just now..

@Golden: Only if we don't have another 90 mins as poor as those at the San Siro. If we play like that again, we're screwed. Still, after facing Lyons and then Inter, we're due a slightly less bumpy ride.

Just wish we could get the 2nd leg at home for once. :p

No wonder there's is so much attention on the Europa League this year; Spanish teams run the Champions League this year and English teams run the Europa League this year lol!

However I hope Spurs win this tournament. I really want to see them become title contenders and trophy hunters.

I still think that if UEFA made it so that the winners (perhaps even both finalists) of the Europa League earn a Champions League slot, that we'd see all the big teams taking it equally seriously every year.
