England first game under Big Sam... not impressed

Anyone here saw the last England's game?

England 1 - 0 Slovakia by 94+ min goal of Lallana. England did dominate the game though (as expected). But that wasn't what we can take out of this game. Mind that Skrtel saw his stupid red card early in the 2nd half, thug move.

England's first game under Big Sam didn't impress nobody. They play almost exactly like in the European cup, pretty dreadful in my opinion, rush and a lot of wrong headless passes.

Sterling was very decent, I think Pep's magic works on him for now. Kane was dreadful and rather disappointing, may be my expectation was too high.

Dier was good beside Rooney. Btw, Rooney looked lost, his deep role was as confusing as the time under Luis Van Gaal, he's English icon but has been so poor for so long, may be they should bench him for once. Or work out his position. I think this deserve another thread.

The defenders didn't have much to do but looked ok.

To sum up: I haven't seen any impact yet positive impact of Big Sam on England, I saw the same old team and this way they wouldn't go NO WHERE!!! Guarantee! What do you guys think?

Yeah watched the game. Almost fell asleep. Same old England. Not sure what the English FA is hoping for with Big Sam in charge, don't get me wrong, he's a good manager, but the type that will bring glory days back to England.

If England want to be on top again, I think they will have to hire a foreign top class manager, someone like Mourinho; Guardiola; Ancelotti; Enrique; Simeone otherwise I don't see anything changing for England if they keep hiring their English managers....

True that @Gennady. This is going no where, English coaches aren't up to the task unfortunately.

The problem is those big coaches you mentioned are too busy with clubs, England has $$$ they should cash it out as soon as they see any of the big game become available and ready for national coaching duty.

@tuan_jinn As far as I was aware, Mourinho, Ancelotti and Guardiola were all available to listen to offers back in January, England did nothing.

Villas-Boas is available now, if England were willing to gamble on Big Sam, why not gamble on Villas-Boas or even Capello. Hell, Sampaoli was there, he's good, what about Blanc, he's good. Hiddink who is fantastic with national sides.

Good coaches are there, it's just that for some reason, England are not doing s**t

@Gennady: Capello was a failure. I don't think you can use capello. I think of all the coaches you mentioned, only Ancelotti would have played to England's strengths. I would personally prefer him or Wenger. Wenger may not be a winner, but his teams play attractive football.

@tuan: Big sam was the worst possible coach England could have hired, and they did that. Back to 19th century football tactics for England. I think England's board probably go to these interviews high to make a decision like that.

It's just one game guys. You can't transform a team in that short time.
As a Slovakian I have to ask, did you expected to trash us? I expected that we will loose 0:2 or something similar. But playing against that deep defensive team isn't that easy when you lack quality in creativity and finishing. The red card finished our any chance of scoring and our defensive line fell even deeper.
Btw. the Walcott's goal was clearly ONSIDE, and wrongly disallowed.

So I only watched the end of the game and will the game was really annoying to watch because of all the miss and the chance not taken, I have to say I was pretty impressed by the total domination of England on the pitch, they played a very offensive and direct style of doesn't create many good occasion but does force the enemy on the defense. 3 on 4 of the time, England was putting Slovakia under a lot of pressure and I swear I could see all of the Slovakian team in the box defending at time, it was interesting and while not the most effective of playing style, I really like how many time England were able to get the ball close to the goal. I like that kind of no-nonsense style of direct play Allardyce is playing, I don't know if its really the same as the euro but to be sincere, I think it make a lot of sense to say the english national team is completely disorganised for now. I mean, its a new manager, he will need time to make the team work better together but I really think they need to get comfortable playing as a team together because right now, they have hard time combining together well despite their individual quality. I still think it wasn't as bad as most people say and that it was only Allardyce first game. I'm sorry for the big post, but what I'm trying to say in a nutshell is, was the first game, the manager need time and all in all, England still seem the best team despite their arkwardness. The results is a bit lucky though.

Don't you ever count on English players. They are overrated because of the media. The only exception was Beckham and Owen.

@KaKa_CS Seriously dude? Scholes; Gerrard; Terry; Lampard; Ferdinand; Shearer, these players were world class players, not a tiny bit overrated at all ....

Gerrard, Terry and Lampard are overratede. I can't debate Shearer or Scholes. But the 3 players I mentioned are simply overrated. They might have been world class at some point, but their performances for England proves they weren't as good as they are said to be.

.....

Lampard is Chelsea highest scoring player of all time and was the best attacking midfielder in the world for several years. Terry is quite possibly the best defender the PL has ever seen, and I'd put him with Nesta for top CB's since 2000 without a second thought. Gerrard was always a little overhyped because of his long shots, but he was nevertheless an excellent player and was the main player in a CL winning side.

@Phenohyte I don't think performance in international game should ever prove something for a player, since we don't know how it is for them, they migh have a terrible coach and their team spirit might be extremely low, so its really hard to say that it prove something if they don't perfom well on the national level.

@quikzyyy I can confirm he's not, he started scoring again and he even score some beautifull goal for new york city. Really great player and have to say I'm impressed by his longevity. And that is of course without talking about all his accomplishement in England.
