Isco and Messi are the only two I can think of off the top of my head. The game itself has shifted to rely on wingers for goals. Menez, Ronaldo, Bale, Neymar, Lavezzi, Robben, Ribery... these players are hitting the figures that one would've attributed to attacking midfielders about 10 years ago. I'd say that Robben and Ronaldo have something to do with this.
Just saw Frank Lampard scoring, so I thought this yet again, what I've been thinking for a long time:
What I mean by this is players like Lampard, Gerrard, Litmanen & Kaka in their prime. Lamps has scored 22 goals in his best season in BPL, Gerrard 16, Kaka scored 14,15 and 16 goals in his best three seasons & Litmanen scored 26 goals in 30 games at Eredivisie in 1993 and was the topscorer in 1995 Champions League season.
#10 role players (Central attacking midfielders) nowadays seem to be more like playmakers to me, like Özil, Silva, Mata, Cazorla... etc etc. They score 4-7 goals a season, but what they do best is giving +15 assists a season.
I don't really know if there are anymore players who I mentioned before. Closest to me would be Fellaini in 2012 (scored 11 goals), you could see that he really sucks in Man Utd when he's played at #6 role in front of the defenders. Another one that came to my mind is Yaya Toure, scored monsterous 20 goals last season.
What do you think? Are there any goalscoring CAMs anymore - am I totally wrong, which players are like that? If there aren't - what is the key reason behind the transformation / change in players?
