'' David de Gea is the chosen one to be the next Real Madrid goalkeeper. The player earmarked by Vicente del Bosque for a "soft transition" to replace Casillas for Spain could also be Iker's successor at the Bernabéu.

'Los Blancos' and De Gea have agreed comprehensive terms, but the most difficult and tortuous part is yet to come - negotiations with Manchester United.

At the Real Madrid offices in Concha Espina, Florentino Pérez and those around him have been quite clear about the fact that signing a keeper for next season is a top priority. And they firmly believe that De Gea is going to be the Spanish no. 1 over the next ten years, and will take over from Casillas in due course.

The club rates this factor very highly, that whoever inherits the mantle from a legend such as Iker should also be a Spanish goalkeeper, someone who could follow in the veteran's distinguished footsteps for club and country. Once De Gea became aware that Real Madrid's interest was serious, the idea of renewing his contract with United, up in 2016, was dropped.

Since then, the shotstopper has rejected a string of big-money offers from the suits at Old Trafford, the last of which was worth €7.5 million a season after tax.

It is worth noting that De Gea's agent, Jorge Mendes, has a fantastic relationship both with Florentino Pérez and with the United owners. He was instrumental in the talks between Real Madrid and De Gea and now has a key role to play to broker a transfer. The Red Devils higher-ups do not want De Gea to go, but have had to face the fact that the Atlético academy graduate wants to leave. That doesn't mean they are going to make it easy, however… or cheap.

If it weren't for his contractual situation, De Gea, who turns 25 in November, would easily be worth €50m, as he is viewed as one of the top goalies in the world alongside Thibaut Courtois and Manuel Neuer. United forked out €20m to prise him from the Calderón in 2011 and his stock has only risen since then. Real Madrid are willing to pay a world-record fee for a goalkeeper to land their man, but they remain hopeful that they can secure his signature for no more than €30m. ''

Real strike De Gea deal - MARCA.com (English version)

This is what im talking about, United will accept if they get players involved in the transfer, Keylor Navas, Coentrao or Bale could interest United, i dont see them selling for money, they arein rebuilding but if the player force his departure, they would probably try to benefit from Madrid including players onthe transfer...

Yeah, but his last goal before this was against Palace (3rd of March) so he technically scored a hattrick in 1 month and 13 days.

Yeah I knew he was leaving for a while but like any good fan I hoped he would stay. Good luck DDG and glad you're home now!

United fans right now.

Jorge Mendes is probably Perez's greatest asset... Perez always seems to be heavily interested in Mendes' clients, and uses Mendes to bring them to Madrid. Mendes himself earns massive amounts of money from these transactions too, so he's more than happy to do this. Ronaldo, Mourinho, Coentrao, James, Falcao, and now De Gea...

Just...Don't...Ugghh... When was the last time a player actually said no to Madrid?

The last one was Neymar.

@Tiki

But that's because Neymar actually wanted to play for Barca and got an offer from them as well. I think @TheGame means when a player only receives an offer from Real Madrid.

Well dynast Isco prefered Madrid over Barça, Danilo as well so it happens when a player has a preference...
There was only Neymar lately to refuse Madrid, and its mainly due to Robinho's advice and the loss of Santos 4-0 vs Barça in club world cup...
Anyway its really hard to outshine Madrid when they put 100M on the table and a big contract ( Barça as well in Suarez case ) but yeah when Real is bidding for a player, its a waste of time for other teams to try to outbid them...

@Tiki

That's because we are the only two teams alongside Bayern who have history, money, and recent success. Barca also have Messi and Real have Ronaldo, who are both incentives for transfers on their own... every player wants to play alongside either one of them. Even United don't stand a chance with transfers now.

Players want money and success so they would go to the club that best feeds those interests. It's not that complicated, if a team is going though hard times then it loses the competitively incentive. If Barcelona and Madrid bid for the same player which hardly ever happens then the player tends to prefer Barcelona because of recent success as was the case with Neymar.

@Tuanis

That is not true. You can't back that claim with only one piece of evidence. Isco chose Madrid over City and Barca. It all depends on the player's personal preference...

Well exactly my point, Isco's personal preference was the money. Everyone knows he didnt really like Madrid when he was at Malaga, he liked Barcelona a lot better an yet he joined RM. Either Barcelona didn't bid for him or he just went for the money.

Look at Hazard for another example. The only reason he is playing at Chelsea is because they were the current CL champions and he had the ridiculous idea that they were going to win it again any time soon.
Players want to win trophies and earn a decent amount of money. Very few get to play in a team the want to because they are passionate about it.

@Tuanis

Lol, are you actually trying to say that Barcelona can't offer the same amount of money to Isco that Madrid gave? Isco doesn't even earn 100+ per week, his wage isn't ridiculously high.
