CL: Round 4 Summary + Round 5 Predictions
Lilywhite 10 years ago
28 468

We had an interesting round 4. The top leagues did as following:

England: 0/4 wins (2 ties)
Germany: 3/4 wins (0 ties)
Spain: 3/4 wins (0 ties)
Portugal: 3/3 wins (0 ties)
Italy: 1/2 wins (0 ties)
France: 1/2 wins (0 ties)

I want to take this moment to really say that I admire Portuguese football and what they manage. truly fantastic, I'm a big fan. Also, I think at this exact moment, the Bundesliga should be considered the best. Great job they're doing too.

My questions then is, what do you think the results will be in Round 5?

@Argjent: Again, I don't even think it's just Chelsea performing well.

Arsenal went out to Bayern two seasons in a row, with the first time coming down to goal difference. Along the way they beat Dortmund, Napoli and Marseilles.

United topped their group two years in a row, destroying Sociedad, Shaktar, Leverkeusen and Galatassaray along the way. Last season they fell to Bayern, which is no shame, having at least gotten a draw at the Allianz, and the year before that they were robbed against a Madrid side they had basically out-played until Nani was sent off.

City have been a disappointment, sure, considering the level their squad should be playing at, but we should also remember that they beat Bayern in the Allianz and were one goal shy of topping their group altogether, last season. They might still pull it out this year, despite the silly results against Moscow, and get to the 2nd round, where they would still be dangerous for anyone to face.

And, as ever, we have to once again point out the fact that City were down to ten men in BOTH legs against Barcelona. In fact, aside from Atleti beating Chelsea, I can't remember the last time a Spanish team beat an English one when that did not happen. It's almost as if the Spanish teams really struggle to beat the English teams when it is 11 v 11, isn't it? ;)

Iraqi is clearly just being a troll. See, all this because La Liga fan boys just can't stop insulting the PL. It's funny how when Atletico, Sociedad, Villareal, Valencia, Bilbao and yes, even Madrid themselves were getting knocked out the the first round every year, somehow THAT didn't count, and La Liga was still the best.

But when it's the PL teams losing to the defending champions in the knock-out stages? Noooooo, it must be that the PL is crap. :p

Bias, bias, bias. That's all it ever is.

@iraqi_madridista First, when i see your comments i think you are only 14-15 years old,Second,Valencia,Bilbao,Sociedad were so weak in UCL.Atl.Madrid only these 2 years is performing good in UCL and in La Liga too.And i prefer to watch England Championship games like some La Liga games

@Lodatz you're right. But really i don't see Arsenal or Man.Utd to do smth big like to go at semifinal at least .in other side Chelsea, for me they have the best mid. in the world right now,and they have Mourinho. And my opinion is that only Chelsea [This year] can be a very good challenge for Real Madrid,Barca or Bayern M.[i'm talking for these last 2 years] :)

@Iraqi: I agree that Arsenal (and Liverpool) will probably not go far, this year, even if they get to the 2nd Round. United, if they get back into the Top 4, might do, because they are buying like crazy, and with the squad they are assembling they might have agreat team again in a year or so.

You never know.

And yes, I would definitely agree that Madrid, Bayern and Chelsea are the best teams in the world right now, probably in that order. Barcelona need to prove it, as far as I am concerned, because they haven't been to a final in 3 years, and now get beaten by Atletico and Real on a regular basis.

Once more, you never know. Luis Suarez might help them get back up to that level. That would be 77m, and another superstar import from the PL, well-spent, if it happens.

I won't rate Chelsea as one of the world's best until they get some solid results in the Champions League. Their group is very easy, but they are still 2-2-0. They should be 4-0-0 by far. I'm still interested in seeing how they perform in the knockout stages to find out whether they really are as good as they initially seemed or not.

But then again, Mourinho has his ways of grinding out results even in the most unfavorable of circumstances, so you never know.

Yep Lilly Bundesliga and Liga Sagres are on the rise, their top teams are progressing in Europe and numbers prooves it.

The batle between Calcio and Liga Sagres would be exciting, Bundesliga and PL as well and of course Lige 1 Vs Russian league, all those leagues are getting closer to each others.

For the favourites, im not Rulling or Atletico or Dortmund that both caused troubles to Madrid, both clubs have incredible fighting spirit in 2 legs confrontations.

For me the favourites are like this :

1- Bayern
2- Real Madrid
3- Atletico Madrid
4- Chelsea
5- Dortmund
6- Barcelona

Considering United Arsenal and City results against Bayern, we may forget that Bayern had alredy did the job before meeting in the second leg, Bayern were able to defeat the 3 teams with ease in England and the 2nd game, they just did the minimum, this year they are hungry and getting forward for a revenge i guess any English team should be praying to avoid them, Spanish as well.

I may agree that Barça isnt convincing but at the same time they did far better than Arsenal, United and City lately who were very far from being contenders, Barça lost 2-1 on agg against Atleti, Chelsea 3-1 but it doesnt mean anything, Madrid went loosing 2-0 in Dortmund away and 2 weeks later defeated Bayern away 0-4 so whatever.

One game result doesnt show the consistence or the inconsistence of a team, even small teams could get an achievement in one game over the competition like Basel.

Bilbao who were in Relegation zone this start of the season are ruining la Liga stats, i would have rather seen Sevilla or Valencia instead, much stronger at the moment.
Yeah, really impressive. I was blinded by the mainstream idea that Bundesliga is weak, not anymore now.
Bayern dominating the league doesnt neceserly mean that other teams arent good enough, it only shows how actual Bayern is great.
Hatts off, and please dont draw us :)
