Can Arsenal create the surprise ?

I know it's to soon to judge, even Arsenal fans are keeping silent atm, And despite not reaching the February/march month where Arsenal usually struggle. But there are signs of Arsenal improvement that I guess their fans have noticed it.
Its too soon for CL but would they win PL already ?

  • Arsenal played the stability card, No big changes on tactics nor signings but they had an effective transfer market : Xhaka, Mustafi, Perez : Xhaka and Mustafi already won their starting place and erased last year weaknesses. Perez for depth and probably given playing time as he is starting to find his marks on the field between his teammates.
  • No big injury crisis : Its been a long time I didn't see both Ox and Walcott both fit and in form, its also the first time that Wenger has that many choices and depth to make his XI : two 9 with different abilities : Perez is technical and fast, Giroud is physical can be used for long balls aerial combinations and not bad at short pass combination, Iwobi silently progressing.
  • Defensively : Mertesacker is back from injury but both Gabriel and Mustafi can be played aside the established Koscielny who won his starter place in France and look very solid. They also have 2 defensive mid and will get back Cazorla soon.
  • Both Sanchez And Ozil look consistent which wasn't the case in the past, Sanchez is on fire and well Ozil CL performences are just out of this world.
  • The team looks confident and hungry, players look like having fun on and outside the pitch.
  • They used to drop point while completely dominating games, lately they win games without playing extremely well : as an example vs Stoke after the CL effort some players like Ozil had a terrible start but they have that gap level between them and their rival that garanteed them the win despite an early PK agaisnt them.
  • They have been outrageously dominating small teams in both PL and Europe, last time they ended up first of their group was in 2005/2006.

All this points makes me think they are PL contenders already, in addition to Manchester clubs not at their best form. Only Chelsea/Liverpool are likely to give them a fight in the long run, the bad point is that from this 3 they are the only ones to have to worry for CL, which give a fictive lead to Chelsea in the long run.

I know it's too soon, but it's been a long time all these points were not there at the same time for Arsenal, what do gunners think about it ? What do rivals think ?

Arsenal are genuine title contenders this season. The team this year is showing immense levels of confidence in themselves not seen in recent years under Wenger.

They haven't slipped up to any small team in the PL, which is a very difficult feat, considering that every other team has already had at least one bad day(s). Liverpool lost to Burnley, and United and City have had too many to count. Even Tottenham dropped points generously at a stretch a month ago.

The are resolute defensively, and at the moment are irresistible going forward. They came from 2 goals down to beat Ludogorets away, and managed to get a late draw in Paris and at Old Trafford too.

But then again, Arsenal fans have seen many false dawns over the last few seasons, and the season is still not halfway done. If Arsenal stay free from injuries (something which they strangely can never do around February), and keep up the form then they can go on and win the title.

Yes I agree, but this season they have enough depth they haven't last season, if injuries make their appearance, wich i doubt Because they can rotate now in Boxing Day, they still have quality bench players to grab points they couldn't past seasons.

This is for me the biggest change so far. Usual Arsenal would dominate games for 90 minutes and lose or draw them on regular basis. This season this has been different, we have less chances and we're more clinical upfront, may this stay with us whole season.

No, we can't win when we're drawing home to Middlesbrough, Tottenham, and losing to Liverpool. Consistency is KEY.

I know it feels different, I've noticed it too. That being said, I need to see Arsenal do well in January/February. Too many years I've seen so much promise go down so fast.

Generally, every team in the EPL, even the team that finishes on top, has a run of results that are unfavorable. Some teams (united cough) are doing it already, but most do it down the stretch. I'm not convinced that any EPL team has laid down a clean run of results yet that make them clear favorites. Not even Chelsea.

Yeah it's not the first time we see Arsenal having a good run in the first leg, but it's the first time I believe they have the marge of loosing a starting player in every part of the field and still field a competitive XI.
Im a big fan of the Colombian GK, Per back from injury so they have 4 Cb's, 3 DM, 3 strikers and load of talent in midlefield. Also some of their youngsters past years are no longer youngsters with CL experience and games in the league, they concede less, waste less...

Smells good for me, top 3 this season for sure.

With Liverpool still dealing with injury from time to time and City struggling with form and discipline, I can't help thinking that Chelsea and Arsenal might be in for a race for top spot this season, this would be very exciting in my opinion. Arsenal managed not to lose a lot of player (or any of them, I'm not sure) so with the 3 new signing, they added a much needed depth to their team. So yeah, I could see them ending up in top 3 for sure this year.

Wenger can win PL he just needs the quality players. He does not spend enough but I guess that is a blessing and a curse. Spending is not always the best way to do things.

@tdot2barca Agreed, bringing too many player can sometime damage team spirit in my opinion, newer player need more time to adept to the gameplan.

Bayern this year looked a lot less dangerous and dominant, but still they can wipe out Arsenal :( I feel sad for saying this. The games I watched from Bayern this year they looked less hungry and ageing... But when they are hungry, they are as crazy.

Muller is having the worst season of his life, but when he's back to his instinct, uhmn... scary again.

If Arsenal keep their concentration well and dont mess up with their winning formation by introducing bunch of random players for the sake of rotation, then Arsenal will surprise us

Arsenal will surprise us

Well I hope so, it's been a decade since I've been surprised by anything Arsenal's done.

They can, at the moment they have the chance to win BPL. Only contender they have is Chelsea, who are in immense form and are not in UCL, which makes them 100% focus on the BPL. They also have a better squad than arsenal, Arsenal on the other hand have BPL and UCL to focus, plus they are an injury prone team and inconsistent one. They need to keep fit this season and not lose any player, they are all precious and need to be fit.

If they can keep this performance up until after the Winter break, than that will be a good sign.

Im still saying it's too soon for CL, imagine they defeat Bayern in a 2 legged game wich is already an accomplishment, they will still need to replicate the same accomplishment in quarters and semi. Wich will cost them points on the league. At the difference Chelsea doesn't need to loose energy on to concentrate on mid week. Going past Bayern could be a blessing but could also be a nightmare for the league race.
If They can do both then they would have progressed hugely and will surely climb my Europeen level teams ranking. Dortmund as an example did great vs Madrid : it costed them points in the league before and after the game.

Arsenal's attack is way better, but Chelsea's defense and midfield is superior imo. Guess which one of those wins championships.

The only way arsenal going to win is when they stop concentration on epl, the only teams that are capable of doing well in the league AND the champions league are bayern, barca and real and even they have difficulties.

Pretty absurd how spot on Tiki Taka's analysis are although he's not really an Arsenal fan. Nothing to add really, other than already mentioned that the team is different this season.

@quickzzy I meant by the 22-squad. Not only by the starting XI. Arsenal definitely have a better squad depth than before, but I feel Chelsea tops a bit.
