How was splashing 50 million on a striker who was considered back then one of the best strikers ever a risk? No one expected him to flop. He was in his prime and would be in any club's starting team back then. The club goes first. Chelsea is a club that wants to win trophies every season and it is difficult to do that when our only strikers back then were both in the twilight of their careers.

"How was splashing 50 million on a striker who was considered back then one of the best strikers ever a risk? " Simply, you have no guaranteed that player will perform on the same level in another club.

It was still a pretty safe bet, though. Pretty much no-one could have foreseen his subsequent flop. Chelsea were just terribly unlucky, in that regard, though I still think he's getting better every season there.

@quikzyyy: Sure there was a chance Torres wouldn't perform as the Torres in red, but we never expected him to be as bad as he is now.

@tiki_taka: Yeah man, that one was also an unexpected flop :/
