At the same time, Chelsea are a financially stable club, and Torres at the time was one of the world's best strikers. 50 Million pounds seemed legitimate for him back then.

But 48.5 Million pounds for a 21-year-old Brazilian who's only ever played in Brazil is too much. Additionally, Barcelona are millions in debt, so buying Neymar was a HUGE risk for them.

@Dynastian whenever u sign a player it's always risk, example: I think nobody though that Torres would turn into "Torres 2.0"
If Real Madrid or anyone else would splash this amount of money or more it would be same risk.
And today in these days younger player = bigger value.
When you're a coach would you like to teach young talents like Neymar, Oscar etc? or would you buy someone who is already 30 and you know he's already on his zenith
